Everton's youth system

Why is it better than ours?

Is it? They've had less money to spend than us, so they've been forced to utilise it more. I don't see any evidence really to suggest it's better, it's just that opportunity with them is more forthcoming. We've had players come through too that probably would have got as much playing time as a few of their lot at a lesser club.

No one will ever admit that their academy is better than ours but they've produced better players these past few years.
But getting into the Liverpool first team is a lot harder than getting into Everton's team.
Barkley, Anichebe, Rodwell, Stones are just a few of their recent players.
Don't forget, Rooney, Barton, Osman.

What I want to know is why are they getting all the local talent?
Everyone I mentioned in the previous post were either born or grew up in Liverpool.

None of our most promising u21's are from Liverpool, bar Rossiter and maybe Robinson (not sure he's that promising any more).
McLaughlin, Suso, Ibe, Sterling...

Way to contribute.

Didn't you just accuse him in another thread of stalking you or whatever?

People are getting pretty sick of threads either spiraling into Agger/Lucas territory or having to trawl through pages of WUM shite. Give it a rest.

I thought I'd start replying to his posts, since he acknowledged that he is stalking me or whatever.

Yes I'm stalking you to the point where you reported me to the mods last week when I wasn't even posting.
You tragic saddo.

They finished above us two seasons in a row, with their blend of youth and cheap buys. So why would that be?

Because they didn't chop and change every 5 minutes and they bought well? They've kept the core of the same squad together for ages, that breeds continuity. Have a look at how much our team has changed since 2009.

I was going to say continuity but they look much better without Moyes.

They do, but the foundations were laid. The biggest pluses have been Barry and Lukaku, and the emergence of Barkley. They already had a settled back five and players like Pienaar, Osman, Miralles etc.

Very true.

Ray Hall was at helm for 2 decades (21 years to be exact - appointed by Howard Kendall and served under Mike Walker, Joe Royle, Walter Smith and David Moyes) and now still serving in an ambassadorial post. The one who succeeded him in 2011 was Alan Irvine, who served as Moyes' assistant between 2002-2007. Youth Team coach Kevin Sheedy has been there since 2006.

The FA's Head of Elite Performance, John Murtough (who was last week linked with move to Man Utd), previously served at Everton for 2 spells (1997-2004, 2008-2012 - went to Fulham for 4 yrs in between) prior to his appointment.

Two of those pluses are only on loan luckily. The back five is going to need a bit of cash spent there as well. Probably through selling Baines. Good opportunity for Martinez to reshape how he wants. Well it would be if they had any money.

Barkley and Rodwell are the two that stands out I guess. Its not better than ours but its what Macca said and the fact that they've been forced to play youth due to financial reasons.
If anything it shows that you can just as easily give youth a chance then buying overpriced squad players like we've done for years.

We need to keep hold of the best local talent though. Barkley should be playing in red.

And we allegedly lost out on both as there was perception, right or wrong, that Liverpool, preferred to buy foreign and would never give youth a chance.

Your point about not buying overpriced players is well made. Sterling and Suso actually performed better than Downing and Adam before possible burnout caught up with tehm.

Tony Hibbert was fucking dynamite too.
How I'd long for that cunt marauding down our right hand side.

Martin Kelly? Stephen Warnock?

We can laugh at them all we want, but the fact of the matter is they've developed more premiership players these past 10 years than we have.

Because it's easier to get into their side than ours Modo.

Yeah I mentioned that in my first post Ryan, but still, how many have we developed these past 10 years that are currently playing in the premiership.
I'd go with zero and I'm talking local boys.

They've got Rooney and Rodwell, not counting those who are still there.

Guthrie and Warnock for us but they're playing in the championship now, I think.

Well Rodwell's not currently playing in the Premiership is he? He sits on the bench every week.

And then there's Rooney, who's an aberration.

There are probably youngsters on our books who'd be in the Everton side. Kelly, Wisdom, etc. They'd be getting more gametime for them than us.
