Why're you comparing Essien to both of them? He's not going to be a better player than those two combined.

Essien may be more of a 'complete' player but the sum of Mascherano & Alonso's parts is far greater than Essien + Mark Noble to anyone, and especially Liverpool F.C under Rafael Benitez.

i'm comparing them becuase me and JJ got into a comparing debate. In my opinion having essien in our team provided that we bought another very good cm, would make us better than xabi and mascher becuase the Essien factor is too great a factor in any given game.

*pretenting to still play champ manager*

sell mashcer for 35m and sell alonso for 30m then buy Essien for 50m. Use remainder of money to buy another midfielder (Hamsik, martinez, or even consider a small bid for mark noble).

Alright

I think you seriously underestimate those two players, and I hope one of them doesn't leave this summer and ultimately prove their importance to Liverpool to you

I don't underate iether of them, but I do rate fully essien - as for them both leaving I agree that they shoudn't as the prospect of us signing essien is nill.

How does Noble fit into all this?
[/quote]

We sell Mascher and buy Essien and Noble

No way would he "be a better DM than Mascher", particularly not in our system, for the reasons Squiggles has rightly explained. I don't even think he'd be better all-round than Xabi, whose tackling is better than Essien's passing all day long.

Essien is a top player but in terms of playing style he's far more like Stevie than he is like either of the others. Unless Stevie leaves (which Heaven forbid) he'd be wasted at LFC.

this accusation of him roaming round don't really add up to much, he has demonstrated that he has the discipline to play in all sorts of positions, rb, cb and do very well. If he was ked to play a defensive midfiler role he would be better than mascher - the smae would apply to alonso. Essien is incredible. your suggestion that xabi is a better all round player than essien is laughable, alonso is good, but essien pisses all over him all day long. The only area that xabi might be better than essien is if they were both asked to play a play-maker role - then again I would not be surprised if essien wowed us with some amazing passes.

You're in dreamland if you think either Essien or Xabi would make a better DM than Mascher. Essien's tackling isn't as reliable, he wouldn't hold his position enough and it would be just plain daft to try and make him do so anyway - it isn't his game. Xabi's tackling is underrated but not of the standard of either of the other two. Trying to slot either one in at DM would be yet another example of the sin which too many Liverpool managers have committed over the years, signing a player in one position and then trying to make him play in another.

Essien is a super player at what he does, and so are our lads at what they do. They're all different from one another and Essien, for all his quality, just isn't needed as long as we have Stevie Gerrard, who's an even better player. Or do you rate Essien above him too?

what planet are you on dude? have you watched any epl matches last three seasons?

Yes mate, and I've watched him take the ball as often as the man and get more than his share of cards for doing so. Mascher can and does kick people too, but mostly he doesn't need to. Just go ask Kaka or the ManUre midfield if you don't want to believe me.

Essien is a monster, he can play virtualy in any position. If you prfer mascher to Essien as a DM then you are on another planet, Essien can tackle like a monster, run like a monster, and his positioning is outstansing. He is the closest thing I have ever seen to gerrard in terms of being a complete player. I'm all for some mascher love, but we have to be realistic - 10/10 times essien would be ahead of mascher in any team sheet, any formation .

p,s I have never said that xabi is a better dm than mascher

Earth calling Planet Zog. I actually agree with a lot of what you say about Essien himself. We're obviously not going to agree on the comparison between him and Mascher specifically as a DM, so let's at least agree to differ.

we'll agree to disgree but I know I'm right and you're wrong....

Essien > almost any midfielder in the world. He would be an excellent addition, even if it meant sacrificing Mascherano. Although Mascher is probably the better defensive midfielder, Essien is also excellent in the position and can also be useful in games against teams that like to park the bus.

Again, it's never going to happen so why are we talking about it?

We couldn't affors his transfer fee or his wages.

When do the pre-season games start?
