Err...why was the Newcastle thread locked?

It's weird. Surely we can talk about other teams. Maybe one of the mods pressed a button by accident. Apparently Ross's arse is always pressing buttons and moving levers by accident whenever he's in the control room. He doesn't even know he's doing it half the time.

I locked it!

The match is done with so why not continue the debate on separate, more focused threads

We're going to start implementing an automatic lock on some threads, to stop match threads becoming a cavalcade of issues. Keeps debates lively and relevant if people don't trawl through pages of oncys cock.

And OOOOOOOO we talking the Newcastle success thing? Yeah, set an automatic lock on that too to test it.

Plus I was offended by the term "success" being associated with Newcastle.

Crazy old threads being bumped...

I really do try to visualize you all in a real control room, sort of like Andy Townsend's old caravan.

Must be great fun in the pub with the mods.

"Look at the tits on your one"

"Fuck sake man, we talked about her three months ago, I know you weren't here, but you know the rules, we can't talk about her again"

"But..."

"No butts either, we talked about them six months ago"

Ha!

Since the other thread is locked i'll put this in here, i believe Newcastle's relative success so far this season has come down to the vast majority of their squad having that 'winning mentality' and players with exposure to Europe's elite competitions and International tournaments:

- Tim Krul - Part of the Dutch squad that won the European U21 Championships (2007) and part of the squad that helped Newcastle to the Championship title (2010).

- Steve Harper - Almost an ever-present for their Championship title (2010).

- Fraser Forster - Won the title with Celtic (2012) and the L1 trophy with Norwich (2010).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Danny Simpson - Helped Sunderland (2007) and Newcastle (2010) to the Championship title, progressed through the Man Utd academy and instilled with that winning mentality by being part of that squad for many years.

- Fabio Coloccini - Won the title with Boca Juniors (1999), San Lorenzo (2001) and the Championship title with Newcastle (2010). Joined Alavas the season after we beat them in the UEFA Cup final and achieved a UEFA Cup spot via their La Liga position. Also won international honours with Argentina at the FIFA World Youth Championship (2001) and the Summer Olympics (2004).

- Mike Williamson - Promoted from L2 with Wycombe Wanderers (2009) and joined Newcastle's Championship winning team midway through the season in 2010.

- Steven Taylor - Championship title (2010), Helped England reach the 2007 U21 European Championship Semi-finals, narrowly beaten by the Netherlands 13-12 on penalties.

- Ryan Taylor - Championship title (2010), Helped Tranmere to the L1 playoffs (2005).

- David Santon - Won the scudetto (2009, 2010), the Coppa Italia (2010), the Champions League (2010) and the FIFA Club World Cup (2010) with Inter.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Hatem Ben Arfa - Won 4 consecutive Ligue 1 titles at Lyon (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and a Coupe de France in 2008. The following season he moved to Marseille finishing Ligue 1 Runners-up and was victorious once again in 2010 winning another league title and France's version of the league cup. Internationally, he triumphed at the European U17 Championship in 2004.

- Yohan Cabaye - Achieved a Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France (2011) and the Intertoto Cup (2004) with Lille. Won the 2005 European U19 Championship with France when it was hosted here in N.Ireland. Plenty of European experience having played in the Champions League and UEFA Cup for 5 seasons out of 7 whilst at Lille.

- Cheick Tiote - Won the Eredivisie (2010) and runner-up in the Dutch domestic cup (2009) playing for FC Twente. Also finished runner-up in the same competition the previous year whilst on-loan at Roda JC. Featured in the Champions League and Europa League at FC Twente. Part of a Anderlecht squad that won back-to-back league titles in 2006 and 2007. Reached the final of this years African Nations Cup narrowly losing out to Zambia on penalties.

- Jonas Gutierrez - Championship title with Newcastle (2010), Won the Argentine league with Velez Sarsfield (2005) and the South American Youth Championship (2003).

- Danny Guthrie - Championship title with Newcastle (2010).

- Gabriel Obertan - Ligue 1 winner (2009) and runner-up (2008) with Bordeaux. Part of a Man Utd side that finished Premier League Champions (2011), Premier League Runners-up (2010), League Cup Winners (2010) and Champions League Runners-up (2011).

- Sylvain Marveaux - Won nothing, been injury prone and very, very poor. We were extremely lucky to dodge this bullet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Demba Ba - Promoted from the Bundesliga Second Division with Hoffenheim (2008). Scored 93 goals from 185 games throughout his career and 5 in 12 for his country.

- Papiss Cisse - Won the Ligue 2 Title with FC Metz (2007). Bundesliga Top Scorer Runner-up with 22 goals (2011) despite playing for a midtable outfit, setting an African and club record for this division. In 223 games he netted 102 times and 11 times in 17 games for his international side.

- Leon Best - Joined Newcastle midway through their Championship title winning season in 2010.

- Lovenkrands - Championship title with Newcastle (2010). At Rangers he won the League title (2003, 2005) the Scottish Cup (2002) and the Scottish League Cup (2002, 2003, 2005). He also won the Danish Cup with AB (1999) and was Bundesliga runner-up with Schalke (2007).

- Shola Ameobi - Championship title (2010).

The majority of them are minor titles. Everyone in our squad has won a trophy too. But I agree with the general point that we need a few more winners in the team.

That's the problem, the players who have received the most vocal defamtion this season are those who haven't won a trophy at a previous club, or have only tasted success once in the League Cup going back almost a decade or the bloody Scottish First division.
