I was astonished to hear in this morning that England sat down and watched a video of Algeria yesterday (Thursday) for the first time.
It's all right Gene. We played Mexico in a friendly - they're more or less the same colour.

Why do people put so much stock into anything that Rooney says, he has the IQ of a rock! Whe he is playing on the field its an altogether different story.

Regardless of what the players themselves say, Capello is unlikely to take the view that Algeria will be easy to beat. His professionalism won't allow it!

I think Rooney is right.

I mean a footballing superpower like England should be able to take care of Algeria even at half pace
Well, yes...but there's no need to tell them that though.

I hope it's true, because at the moment they ARE at half pace.

TBF, Wayne has a point, fuck them booing him, you dont boo your players. It's fucking dirty & wrong.
But according to Wayne, England are so great (and/or Algeria are so shit) that we can win the game without even playing well. Obviously he set out to prove himself right.

Unfortunately he forgot the bit about actually winning the game.

Anybody remember what paper it was that had England's group for the world cup laid out like this...

England
Algeria
Slovenia
Yanks

?

Jermaine Defoe still thinks England are great :

We are just as frustrated but we have players who have been there and done it and played in major tournaments before. We are a great side and it's important to keep going because it will be a different game against Slovenia.

The England team went to visit an orphanage in South Africa this morning.

I've had incarnations of this joke around 5 times today on the blackberry messenger.

The name was misspelt and wording have been modified slightly, but it's funny how fast things move in today's digital age.

You're all acting as arrogant as rooney by assuming he is correct. Being arragont is one thing, but in this case there is no reason to be arrogant. Algeria's team is not inferior. The only thing they lack compared to england is the ability to produce some individual brilliance or magic. But don't let that distort your judgement of how well they do all the other things. Becuase they play as well if nto better football than the english do.

Rooney is an idiot. But sometimes you fans don't pay enough attention to football teams. You're influenced by the past and by reputation. Has this season taught you nothing? Did the usa game teach you nothing? I fear for england today. They will fall
I think they will only fall half way.

When does the German game on.bcad.

There's a fine line between arrogance and confidence. The fact that rooney thinks we can beat them when we're not on our best and that he knows very little about them is very arrogant IMO. Ignorant too
To be fair on the lad, I wouldn't say it's so much ignorance or arrogance, I think he's just a bit dim. He said 'erm' about 25 times the other day in a 30 word interview. He made Gerrard look like fucking Shakespeare.
Ha, this is obviously true. But his comments are still symptomatic of a general English malaise. If most English players/people had a humble, open-minded attitude to the world, this wouldn't be the default setting, even for really thick people. He'd just repeat the obvious Rafa-isms about them being a good team and England needing to find their true form etc. The fact is that the English as a people still seem to believe that they're the centre of the world, the best at everything, and that foreigners, especially ones you've never heard of, are bound to be inferior.

OK, rant over. I do think it's true though, in the most generalised way.
With the greatest of respect you're talking through your arse. The English are no different to anyone else in regard to their views of foreigners. My Irish mates always and Scottish mates would give precisely the same view as any of my English mates if someone asked them their views on forthcoming football opponents, but I never assume that they therefore are showing themselves to think they're the centre of the world etc.

The English are also a pretty diverse bunch and the views and attitudes of people differ radically from one part of the country to another, so only an idiot would presume to opine on the views of the English, based on what can only be prejudice and ignorance - and I speak as a bloke that was born in Ireland, so know all about prejudice, ignorance and overblown nationalism
