No changes for England. Strange. Sterling and to a lesser extent Kane don't really deserve to retain their places.
After ONE game? I don't blame Hodgson for not changing things, we were very good against Russia.

We were good against Russia for parts of the game, but that was in spite of Kane and Sterling, who were mediocre.
We were better than Russia, but they barely attempt to attack us, we're fooling ourselves if we think that game was an indicator of us looking good. I wouldn't drop Kane either though, but Sterling most certainly should have got the hook.

Yeah, very true, but while I probably would have selected a different side - then and today - I don't think it's THAT weird or scandalous that Hodgson hasn't.
I'd have found a place for Vardy somehow. He's in awesome form, and has that pace all defenders hate.

Yes, after one game. it's not like that was the starting team in qualifiers on warm up friendlies. Sterling looked completely bereft of confidence. He messed up almost every chance he had to cross and Kane was on the periphery of the game. England played quite well, but it didn't have a lot to do with either.
He used to remind me of a shit version of Jerry Sadowitz without the magic and self loathing.

I've enjoyed some of Frankie's stuff, but I think you're right about the Sadowitz comparison. There's a man who resolutely refuses to conform, play the game, or change any single aspect of his approach. (Well, apart from his few attempts at making a TV series)
I often thought that Boyle did actually look at him and think he was a bit of a shill in comparison, so I had more respect for him when he just decided to fuck off Mock The Week and go back to standup uncensored.
Still not a favourite of mine, although that is admittedly a very short fucking list.

But the best ones never pander to their audience. I remember a great article about the legendary Hicks, in which someone observed the hefty Guardian contingent laughing away as he hit all the right targets about Iraq - warmongering arms-dealers, Bush, etc - and then getting totally sideswiped when he launched into a long (and painful) routine about a randy pagan sex god who liked rimming teenage girls.
