Squad announced for the U21's in summer.

Wisdom, Henderson and Shelvey all in.

No place for Sterling, but Liverpool new boys McManaman and Ince called up.

Shame the manager is a cunt because the squad looks ok.

Is it in Isreal??
Fuck that will be shit.
I cant imagine a less fucking up for it fun happy go lucky joyous crowd than the Isreali's

*blows worlds tiniest vuvuzela*

ha ha ... it will be great ... i actually got free tix for italy-israel, but can't go ... but every single anglo i know here is going to the Israel-England game, should be great ... and we'll eat humus and kebab on the pitch, as is customary here during half time.

Oh ok, I'm lying. No conspiracy here:

“He’s had this for a few weeks where he’s had a slight, slight tear at the top of his thigh and it doesn’t keep him out completely. But gradually over time it has got worse,” explained Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

“It is something that if we continue with, it could end up bigger and creating problems for him when he gets older, so we have to ensure we don’t store up a problem for later in his career.

“If it is the best thing to do to rest him for the rest of the season, then we will do that because we don’t need to risk him when it could cause problems for the future.”

Sidetrack: Good news - Lucas and Coutinho have not been called up for the Brazil squad for the Confederations Cup.
Was worried about Coutinho...great news!! Might not be so good for their confidence.

I'd much rather that all our players were good enough to play International football. I know it means they could be tired or injured, but at least they'd be good enough.

Got tickets to see England-Israel ... May go to a few other games too ... Looking forward to seeing Jonjo and co ...

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers thinks England's Under 21s can use this summer's European Championship to emulate Juan Mata.

Chelsea star Mata helped Spain win the age group tournament in 2011 having dropped down from the senior setup.

The playmaker, who has had an excellent season at club level, was then a part of Vicente del Bosque's Euro 2012-winning senior squad.

And Rodgers wants England's U21s, including Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, Jonjo Shelvey, Andre Wisdom and Jack Robinson, to use this year as a chance to shine.

The Liverpool manager said in the Daily Star: "I always think going to big championships like that is great for their learning.

"All these football experiences are good for them. I'm not one who is against players representing their countries.

"Look at someone like Juan Mata. Two years ago, he dropped down from the senior Spain squad to the U21s and helped them to win the tournament.

"A year later, he was part of the team who won Euro 2012 and then last summer he went off to the Olympics."

Teenage Liverpool star Raheem Sterling will not be involved in the Euros due to a thigh injury and Rodgers believes that is a wise decision.

He said: "Everyone was in agreement that we need to look after the long-term situation with Raheem.

"He's obviously had a chronic problem where he's been playing and working through it. But we needed to give him recovery and rest."

A punishing morning on the training pitches in Netanya has just drawn to a close but, as he leaves the pitch, the mischievous smile on Jonjo Shelvey’s face says everything.

The Liverpool midfielder has sat down to preview England’s opening group game at the Under-21 European Championships and soon a name familiar to Shelvey enters the conversation; there is a telling glint in his eye as he starts to talk about Fabio Borini.

‘I sent him a little message on Twitter the other day’ says Shelvey. ‘He had left a tweet (about Italy beating England) so I just put: 'Shhhhh.' He hasn't got back to me! We had been having banter with Hendo (Jordan Henderson) all through the season about the game.

‘Fabio just says they're going to play for a draw and meet us in the final. But I'm sure if there is a tackle to go through... if the ball is there to be won, even if it's one of your mates, you've got to go for it.’

Clearly plenty of barbs have been exchanged at Melwood since the draw for Euro 2013 was made but tomorrow night in Tel Aviv, the phoney war will be over; Shelvey and Borini may be good friends but neither will give an inch in the Group A opener.

Both, after all, go into this fixture eager to make a mark after frustrating campaigns. Shelvey made an impressive start to life under Brendan Rodgers but lost momentum after he was sent-off during a game against Manchester United.

Borini, meanwhile, looked flimsy and suffered injury problems following his £10million move from AS Roma. He only scored once in the Barclays Premier League but Shelvey is adamant Borini is better than he has shown and is aware of the threat he poses to England’s ambitions.

‘He's a good player,’ said Shelvey. ‘When you see him in the finishing drills after training you see his real quality and how good he is in front of goal. I'm sure we won't be giving him a sniff because we know that if we do, he'll punish us.’

If Borini is crucial to Italy’s Under-21s, Shelvey has become increasingly influential for Stuart Pearce. He has been one of the Young Lions’ standout performers over the last 12 months, chipping in with goals from midfield and his recovery from a thigh problem has been timely.

He is expected to form part of a three-man attacking midfield, roaming behind the striker – it will be either Wilfried Zaha or Conor Wickham – and there is genuine excitement that an opportunity to play at a major tournament has now arrived.

‘I've always had niggles which have kept me out, so this is my first proper tournament, hopefully I can play a big part,’ said Shelvey. ‘For the Under-21s it's a big deal. It's just an honour to play for your country, even in a friendly, so for it to be a tournament it feels extra special.

‘I started the season well but after I got sent off against Manchester United it never really picked up again, if I'm honest. I can't say I had a bad season because I played quite a few games and I owe a lot to the manager in that sense. I didn't play as much as I would like to in the end, but that's football.

‘It's frustrating but I'm still only 21 years of age, I've got a long career ahead of me and there's no rush to be playing week in and week out. The manager didn't feel I was ready to do that, that's just how it goes and we'll have to see what happens next season.’

All club matters are now on hold until England’s fate here is sealed and Shelvey, a five handicapper who dazzled his team-mates on the golf course last week during a training camp in Turkey, is confident of a bold show.

‘We have had a meeting about the tournament,’ he said. ‘Spain have got a very good team, obviously there are some great
international and club players. You've got Thiago [Alacantara] from Barcelona, so it’s going to be a good tournament to be involved in.

‘But we have won the last nine. To do that at any level, even in the park, is some record. Stuart keeps talking about the two years build up that we've had, that's how long we've had preparing for this tournament. We're going to go out to try and win it.

Have tickets for Germany v Spain and Germany v Russia.
Hope to see some good football/
