EFL Cup Semi (1st Leg) Southampton (away) Match Thread

I guess I wasn't so pessimistic we could've bombed out out of two cups and slid down the league in a week. The mind boggles how irrationally optimistic some fans are. Was this rested players making a difference? Really?? Maybe a good time to reflect instead of knee jerk trolling.

We were without our two top creative players (mane & coutinho) - bound to struggle with Klopp persisting in playing a front 3 with Firmino on the flank (i.e. dreadful most of the time).

The key is Sunday really ... 1-0 isn't dreadful considering how dreadful we were today ... if we win Sunday, I'll take the last two games.

Getting fed up with Klopp lately, Best thing he can do is come out and say we were beaten by the better side...and if he mentions them playing long balls like he usually does I will get annoyed.
He'll probably go on about how defensive they were and then say 'but that's fine' , so why fucking mention it then.

Origi wasn't great but he showed more willingness in those 8 minutes to get on the ball and try to get beyond the defender, than Sturridge showed in the whole 90 minutes.

At least Origi is a relative youngster learning the game and easing into the Premiership, what's Sturridge's excuse for being a complete lazy twat?

Fair play Southampton.

From the form they've been on and to play like that...they want it more.

Klopp did not do his job at HT

Is Hendo back against the Mancs? if our front 3 is coutinho-firmino-lallana, we may stand a chance with a can-hendo-gini midfield.

We need to win something. While you dolts decide which glittery bauble you most want, that will remain the truth. We need to win ANYTHING.

Mark i don't think Sturridge has got any accelaration is his legs anymore and when he tries to take someone on it looks embarassing for him.

Imagine that, people get annoyed at the ticks of a manager when our team isn't performing as well. Can we please not do that this time.

Rafa Benitez was a weird obsessive bureaucrat when we were winning.
Brendan Rodgers was a fucking idiot when we were winning.
Roy Hodgson... well I wouldn't really know, but what a cunt.

yeah it's becoming a major issue. haven't won any trophy in five years since the fucking carling cup.

I have to wonder why no-one ever seems to run beyond sturridge anymore. It's why he looked so good with Suarez even when teams sat deep. It's like we got figured out big time tonight

Klopp did his job - the players we have are limited now that all the PL teams gear up proper for the 2nd half season.

we are massively on a downward trend despite holding on to second. i'll honestly be very surprised if we don't get beat on sunday.

The key isn't Sunday, unless you're Norwich or some or other joke. Three points are all you can get, whoever you play.

I just hope we can pull off a miracle and finish top 4

At the moment I see us 5th and no trophies.

The lack of quality replacements in the squad is starting to show at the moment. When everyone is fit then we look very good but a few injuries and some tired legs and we look like the team that finished eighth last season again.

we just seem inept to mix up our style of play....route 1 won't always work.. we're not being given space so we panic. side to side eventually leading to lucas or can floating a long ball out of play.

We need like a Giroud in the side. 1 cross and goal.

oh and a decent crosser of the ball. Sigurdsson and Giroud.

If Henderson isnt back we will get beat, no doubt.
Lucas and Can in midfield shouldnt be tried again.

Thats said, it looked like some of the players were already thinking about the game on Sunday.
Losing 1-0 isnt the end of the World and we can turn that around at Anfield.
But its quite telling how much we miss Hendo and Mané, and that we dont have anyone else in the squad that can replace them.

Studge is finished. Offers nothing. Better to have Firmino or Origi upfront.

Still fancy us against united, if they come out to play, as unlikely Jose can play that defensively at home

The way some are carrying on, you'd think that Klopp needs to getting the team to steamroll our opponents in every match from the first minute to the last, with quick incisive passing, creating dozens of chances all of which are finished with aplomb, and with boundless energy in retrieving the ball too.

Every team has dips in a long season. We lost a match today, not the semi final, get a grip.

We may not as we may get an extra bit out of the players but unlikely. Best we can hope for is a draw. Do you think the message has got through to Ryan and those that think like him ?

I think most people know we need defensive reinforcements, quality support for Henderson in midfield and also badly lack pace and a reliable goalscorer in the absence of Mane.

It's not really a mystery or any surprise. Did anyone expect Firmino to score many goals? And with Sturridge rarely fit and out of form, there's not enough options

Coutinho's return is timely, but it doesn't really address the pace and goals problem.

As for Lucas, I mean it's hard to describe how fucking embarrassing he is

We're not out of any cup yet and even if we lose on Sunday to Utd, there is A LOT to play for in the league.

Every team goes through some bad patches of form. Prior to tonight we had lost, what, 1 game in the last 25?
People are quick to paint everything negative only 2 weeks after our highest point tally ever at New year.
