Question, does away goals count in the league cup? I mean if we win by 2-1 in the return leg does it go to extra time?

Nope, no away goals rule.

Away goal rule applies if there is extra time i.e. We beat Southampton 2-1 in the 2nd leg they'd go through due to the away goal at the end of ET

The piece I read simple says 'no away goals' as an aside towards the end. It's a decent read, although a little bombastic & biased (towards us rather than away).

Seems fairer to decide it on away goals rather than a penalty shootout lottery.

Not so good for us this time around as we didn't get one of course.
