it's unrealistic to mention spurs, they are a few players whort of winning the league but the difference between them and us is that their chairman said they are going to have to cut their spending in transfer windows. We don't. We have a man who said he's willign to invest in the squad, and we've just signed some pretty sizeable contracts with companies to get us even more money.

It all comes down to who we buy in the summer, and i trust kenny

Exactly.

And could the defeatists stop ruining this thread please?

Wow what a swing from the Brom game 2 weeks ago.

If we make top 4 next yr I'll be over the moon.

Title? You make a mockery of LFC fans.....

We are so far off a title challenge its embarrassing to talk about it.

Maybe he worded it badly but I'd be leaning closer to DB's view. It is highly unlikely we can challenge for the title unless we add 4 really quality players to the 1st team. This would involve spending huge amounts and I think it's unlikely we'd have enough cash. That said with Kenny, Suarez, Gerrard and Carroll I think we'll have enough to get top four next season.
Not to mention that fact our squad knows very little about the pressures of challenging for a league title at the business end of a season.

People forget the consistency needed to really be up there. We simply do not have it at the moment. We can dream all we like. But 4th should be as high as the dream goes for next season. We are playing well at the moment and its wonderful to see but all this talk of challenging to win the league when we are 20 odd points off top is cringe imho.
Cringe? Oh dear.

DB and all others who clearly don't belong in this thread could you please just fuck off?
And what would you say if Spurs fan said they think they are going to win the league next year?
Hmm so far we have only invested the money we have gotten back n the transfer market. Plus spurs squad is better than ours. We are simply setting our expectations to high. We are trying to fly before we can crawl nevemind walk. Let's get off to a solid start and see where it takes is next season instead of setting outselves up for massive disappointment by declaring we are going to challenge for the league.

What do you think kenny will be telling the lads pat? "well our midfield is still a bit weak and our defence isn't great, but we can make it to top 4 lads!"

No, he'll instill a passion and a confidence in them where we can beat anyone no matter what team we put out. You only have to look at hoe mediocre players are playing out of their skin for kenny. They all are playing for the pride of the shirt and the club. It's bee na while since we've had performances across the board being so high. Yes we've had some poor matches but thats down to the frailty of the squad. Theres no doubt first teamers will be pushed out and on to the bench after this summer. We'll strengthen across the board, either from promoting our own hungry players, or spending money on first team players.

My dear Pat,

Football is about believing. Did you believe we'd score 3 goals against Olympiakos in the 2nd half with strikers such as FSP & Mellor leading the line? Did you believe we'd beat the best team in Italy and England by slim one goal margins? Did you believe we'd win a game after being down 3-0 at half time? Did you believe we'd win a game being down a goal in the 4th minute of extra time?

So you don't want to believe Liverpool can do it over the course of 38 games. Ok, fair enough. Some of us do believe, be it because we see the light, are messiahs or are partially insane. Your 'realistic' friends and yourself don't think it's possible - just make sure to jump on the train when you realize it is and you'll be forgiven. Until then, please let the believers believe. Praise ye Lord.

Sincerely,
LTW

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Why be a football fan if you can't understand, no, LIVE this post? I don't like feeling shitty all the time, and it sucks even more if it's all a product of my own shit mentality, so I am befuddled by people like DB.

for the record my posts aren't an attempt to tell people to stop believeing, you've always got to have some faith in football. faith you'll win games etc, my posts are more why 'I' don't think we'll win the league and if we don't win the league I wont drag up this thread to go 'oh, look I was right' (unlike some people who would). in this instance I really want to be proven incorrect as it will mean we're champions. also we only have one more year to win the league as the world is coming to an end in 2012.

Actually yes to all of that. As I won a grand in the Greek game and 6k for the CL that seas;on by backing us.

One of ties are different. The league is way bigger animal to tackle as Arsenal have shown time and time again.
I am as excited about our team as I have been in a long time and want to enjoy watching us without the pressure of unrealistic goals.
How about we all just sit back and enjoy watching good football and proud players.

Yet we're both battling it out to finish 5th.

Spurs squad is better than ours, but I'd argue our first team is better. They don't have a Gerrard, their defence is poorer and arguably their strength in goals this season has been more from the attacking midfield positions rather than upfront. Realistically we could pip them to 5th after spending half the season with dithering Woy fucking up our league status. They've had a season of being lauded as coming of age and breaking amongst the elite, when in reality they've just had another season of competing for a UEFA Cup position.

Our current predicament in the league is temporary, theirs is the norm. We're not 'miles off' by any stretch.

manu, arsenal and chelsea will always be strong but man city are spurs are erratic so we're not miles off a CL position right now. the summer will put down a marker with how close we will be to the top 3, if the yanks (to quote richard keys) 'SMASH IT' in the transfer market then that will be cause to genuinely believe.

Yes, if you consider we were in the relegation dog-fight zone when Kenny took the reins, we were 11 points behind then and we lost further ground in our first faltering fixtures, it is clear we've been superior to Spurs since January. Who says with a few wise additions we can increase that superiority.

DB is the storm in YNWA.

Miserable cunt.

All this 'Put unrealistic pressures on ourselves' stuff is funny as fuck. Like we're going to be asked to give a team talk next year.

Pat. What will happen will happen, we cant change that, NO MATTER WHAT WE DO OR SAY. So the only choice is in how we feel and what we believe.
If IF we are wrong and dont make it, we will both be unhappy, but between now and then i'll be basking in the sunshine of total faith, while you are popping up your brolly of realism.

Ace post Andy. Love the metaphor.

I believe as soon as the whistle is blown we can beat any team. Thy laugh in work cos I make a prediction in the prediction league here then when asked before the weekend I say we'll win no matter who it is or who is injured.

I always believe we'll win. In the summer, I always believe we're in with a chance of the league. The day I don't will be a sad day.

so is it a case of you 'hope' we'll win the league or you 'expect' we'll win the league?
I say this because expectation has be be based on 'something'.
I 'hope' the s-un will shine tomorrow but I 'expect' it to rain because it's rained all week.
I hope we win the league but expect we wont as haven't won the league for 20 years.
the only thing that is going to change my mind with regards to thinking we can win the league after so many false dawns is we have our best transfer window since the historic transfer window that brought in digger, aldo and beardo.
