Hmmm, interesting. 5th sign: "When the sceptics believe and the believers grieve, then the reds shall achieve"

There are actually a lot of sober judges in DA for 2011-12. A lot of new recruits rather than the usual blind faith hit and hopers. Have Bunny, Count, Wizardry, Rosco, Sunny ever been previously recruited to DA? I think not. Have I? I have not indeed. This is the premier crew. It is the fifth sign of the prophesy come true.

let's hope you guys hang in there when we have our usual winter slump that you can set your watch by.

For the record, I am not a "naysayer".

I am caustiously optimistic.

I was a staunch warrior in the last Army and it all went to a bucket of piss, shit and spunk.

Maybe..........I jinxed it ?

Oh, and Neil, remember when I said that you *sometimes* bring the hassle you get all on yourself ?

Your reply ("I do it on purpose" *wink*) kind of leaves you without much wiggle room to get upset when you get piled on.

Just a thought.

true, but most times I'm being serious (like in this thread) maybe a case of the boy who cried wolf. if I come out with a point and that point is countered with reasoned arguement I handle it a lot better than when my points are meet with sarcasm which annoys the piss out of me as I try my best not to argue any point with sarcasm as it achieves nothing.

My god, if Brendan were still around he'd have a field day in this thread with spidey. He just pulled ten random factors out of a hat for winning away from home, constructed a straw man out of them, and now we're arguing with him on these ambiguous, meaningless terms. Ross has the right idea.

We still love you Neil, but you're talking shit.
those points are not random and absolutely vital for away games. if you don't agree with them, fine, but I didn't pull them from my arse.
as for my talking shit, you bring up brendan but he isn't here, but you are, so exactly which point did I make that is full of shit? read my points again and tell me exactly which point is flawed.
you can say my points aren't rocket science (although we consistently fail to do the basics away from home) but you can't say they are full of shit and if you think they are full of shit please tell me which point is rubbish.

that was a wonderfully patronising post with absolutely nothing whatsoever to back up your arguement, forget bren, pick the holes in my arguement yourself.

my ealier post again;

1. You have to be organised in defense.
2. You have to be compact in midfield.
3. You have to be clinical.
4. You have to able to defend under pressure for long periods.
5. You have to be able to hold up the ball.
6. You have to be able to change tactics quickly.
7. You have to be proactive rather than reactive.
8. You have have good options on the bench to be able to change the game if things are going tits up.
9. You have to be quick on the counter attack.
10. You have to be able to control the pace of the game and slow things down especially to quiet the crowd.

exactly which one of those points is bullshit, the floor is open, let's hear you pick it apart.
1 AND 2 were the hallmarks of Hodgson's style which you were always critical of. If 7 was happening , 4 wouldn't. If 9 and 3 were possible why would you want to do 5 ?

And don't 9 and 10 contradict each other ?

The big problem with your post is that it's predicated on the notion that the home team does all the attacking and has all the possession. At best that's a horrible generalisation.

You make it sound like I'm saying all aspects of that list has to be executed simultaneously, I'm saying they are aspects we need to come away with the three points more often than not.
If your team is organised and compact, chances are you'll be static and predictable, it's about being fluid, changing tactics to overcome any setback, having the strings to your bow even if on occasion you don't need it.

Here's my list of things to win games:

1) Do good football

2) Don't do bad football

EDIT:

I think I can simpify my theory thurther,

A) Score goal

B) Don't let in goals

No, not all.
I never get involved in *tactics talk* because it bores me rigid, but your admission that you love to examine the minutae of games, is somewhat scary to me.

It makes me wonder if you're ever able to step back and just, ya know, enjoy a game, without obsessing over covering runs, overlapping charges between the channels, positioning of an inside-right in relation to the perpendicular quadrant near Alpha Centuri ?

Neil, it's the internet, look at titties !

*goes to look at titties*

concede Neil.

Oh and i'm in dumbledores army too, in fact even last year i thought we would defo finish fourth even when Oncy had stopped believing, this means i win for pure blind optimism cos Oncy was right and we were shit and finished 7th.

Maybe he worded it badly but I'd be leaning closer to DB's view. It is highly unlikely we can challenge for the title unless we add 4 really quality players to the 1st team. This would involve spending huge amounts and I think it's unlikely we'd have enough cash. That said with Kenny, Suarez, Gerrard and Carroll I think we'll have enough to get top four next season.
Not to mention that fact our squad knows very little about the pressures of challenging for a league title at the business end of a season.

People forget the consistency needed to really be up there. We simply do not have it at the moment. We can dream all we like. But 4th should be as high as the dream goes for next season. We are playing well at the moment and its wonderful to see but all this talk of challenging to win the league when we are 20 odd points off top is cringe imho.

If we make top 4 next yr I'll be over the moon.

Title? You make a mockery of LFC fans.....

We are so far off a title challenge its embarrassing to talk about it.

Jose is another planet in my book. Always have been. But I still think we wouldn't win the league next yr. It takes time to get a team playing the way you want them too.

Pat is a glass half empty kind of guy. Form wise, we're not far away from Man U or Chelsea. That's with a shite squad that's depleted with injuries to some of our best players. We're not miles away and a few good signings will see us right in the mix.
I really really hope so. It would be more exciting to see us up there next season that when we won the CL in 2005 at this stage. Thats much the believe has been beaten out of me over the last 20 years supporting us. It's not like we are the only one's going to spend. Utd Arsenal Spurs and City all will too. Villa will improve too. And worse the majority of our squad now has no experience of the pressures of being up their challenging. We've done it once in 10 years and choked horribly with a far better team. I know most on here hate my negative spin and fair enough. Not here to make everyone feel good. (Thats Andy's job anyways). I just post my view. And I have yet to talk to a single fan outside our club that thinks we can challenge next year. Most are saying 4th would be a great step back in the right direction and I agree.

I just don't understand why you would want to be a miserable hyper-realist in football. Life is already hard enough as it is, why beat yourself up over something that's meant to give you enjoyment? Enjoy football. Stop being such a dour twat (this is aimed at no one in particular).

it's unrealistic to mention spurs, they are a few players short of winning the league but the difference between them and us is that their chairman said they are going to have to cut their spending in transfer windows. We don't. We have a man who said he's willign to invest in the squad, and we've just signed some pretty sizeable contracts with companies to get us even more money.

It all comes down to who we buy in the summer, and i trust kenny
