Drogba and Anelka

Apparently they can't sign as they were released outside the transfer window - not sure if that's true, just something I read earlier on Twitter
Not true at all. If you are released and unemployed then you are a free agent and they can for who they like whenever they like.

Are the Chinese up in arms over this? Have they even played a single match?
Anelka has played quite a few, Drogba has played a couple I think *shrugs shoulders*

I repeat neither played today so there is something to this.

Let's not mess this up too. Anelka is almost a shoe-in if we go for him, let's cover all possible situations when this becomes reality.

“@SportsPRCompany: All the rumours of Didier @FondationDrogba being released by Shanghai are nonsense. He is on international duty this week.”

FSG are looking for financial austerity. Even if Drogba flew himself into JLA and begged we wouldn't give him a contract.

It will be the Real Madrid's / Manchester City's that will pay not us

A spokeswoman for the Sports PR Company, which represents Drogba in the UK, told Press Association Sport claims the former Chelsea striker's career in China were over after two and a half months were "nonsense".

She added that Champions League hero Drogba, who paid a visit to his old club's training ground this week, would return to Shanghai after the international break, which sees his Ivory Coast side take on Senegal.

Doubt has been cast over the future of Drogba and fellow former Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka following reports of a power struggle at their new club.

Drogba has since been linked with a return to the Barclays Premier League and even Real Madrid.

The Chinese Super League is currently on a short break and resumes in two weeks.

They can't be signed anyway even if their contracts were torn up now. They have to be free agents before the close of the transfer window.

Otherwise there would be a loophole in the transfer window scheme; desperate buying clubs (like us) would entice players to terminate their contracts with their current club after the window and then compensate the player when signing them up as free agents.

But in this case, isn't it the club terminating their contract? Completely different situations.

There is no way that can be correct otherwise the EU would be up in arms fro restriction of trade.

Enticing a player to terminate their contract is one thing ... but to actually have the club that he plays for to agree to the termination is a whole new ball game.

If it was that easy, players would be terminating their contracts left right & centre.
