Rafa's a top bloke, i find any L'pool fan who dislikes him as a person a touch odd to be truthful.

Yes he's stubborn and what have you but he's a good, genuine man who loves LFC to bits.
That neatly explains your Gerrard issues. Oh wait, no it doesn't. It makes you seem a bit stupid.
Unlike with Gerrard, i see someone in Rafa who really cares for the Club and you can see how much it hurts him when we lose.

Gerrard on the other hand....

Nurse!

You would never know if Rafa loves anything, never mind our club. Bet you Montse is sick of his post premature ejaculation excuses. "I control the clitoris, I need a rest after three times in one week, etc".

I really, really like Rafa. I can understand why some don't, but aside from the frustration at some of his decisions, I have a strong affinity to his personality and manner.
If I'm honest, I couldn't really give a merry FUCK about the Liverpool manager's "manner" or "personality". Or his football "philosophy"
(unlike so many of the mewling cabbages quacking on in extant about fucking cunting Barcelona/ Rijkaard/ Guardiola/ whoever)

I just want him to win the title.

That's it. No more. No less. I don't care how great you are in interviews. How humble/ arrogant/ quiet/ unassuming/ loud/ measured/ gobby you are. How much you love your fucking kids. I don't give a shit how you like to play football. I'm not fucking interested what your vision is, or who your fucking inspiration was.

Win. The. Fucking. Title.
but he has shown he is capable of challengning for the title. okay, this season has been a disaster but that's almost par the course for rafa, for valencia he won the title the next season he came 5th and then the season after he won the title again.

I want rafa to be given another season regardless, I think he's earned it (although I acknowledge I'm in a minority).
I never really thought about it that way. I mean if he finished fifth and then won the league the next year in Spain then it stands to reason the same thing would happen here. It seems so clear to me now.

Benitez has given us some truly wonderful days as Liverpool fans and much like his predecessor gave us hope that we could finally win the title everyone craves.

Unfortunately things seem to have run their course and its best that he goes and someone else has a crack at it
Benitez took Hector Cupers squad at Valencia and achieved great things with it, then he dissassembled that squad and built his own which failed summarily to reach those heights. He left blaming the board. He came to Liverpool and took Houlliers side to two trophys. He then dissassembled that side and knew only failure with his side, so he spent 3 years bitching and moaning and excuse making and blaming the board, so finally the board bow to pressure and give him a free reign to do whatever he wants, sign whoever he wants, control contracts, bacroom staff, academy etc. And that has resulted in abject and total fucking failure. Benitez is a flop and we've all been mugged off.

I don't. We bottled it last season.

There wasn't an expectation that we'd challenge for the title. We did challenge. I think our team overperformed and was more than the sum of its parts, especially given injuries.

Now we have gone past under performing, to disintegrating.

The idea that Rafa didn't try to win... I don't even know what that means.
Er, he won the league in his last season at Valencia.

Twice in three seasons. For a club that hadn't won anything in decades.

Say what you like about his record in England - and I'd probably agree with you - but in Spain he was peerless, which is why Real desperately want him to manage them.

I didn't say that, Whadda did and regardless of his phrasing, I agree that we should've won the title last year. We were too cautious, too willing to accept draws when we should have known that three points were not a 'nice to have', but a must.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what you're arguing here. Are you picking up on the phrasing because you feel it's unnecessarily having a go at Rafa's character or is it that you don't at all agree that we bottled it?

If it's the former, fair enough. If it's the latter, well, we see things differently.

Remember when Rafa was saying we are a more attacking team now. How did that work out? Rafa had the exact right approach last year, for the players he had. He couldn't have done much worse with his transfers, and I think that is where he fucked it up, but the constant reference to mentality and caution and everything I don't think offers up any bit of insight.
There was a game in particular (I believe it was against Stoke) when the game was tied with 20 mins to go and he took off a player and brought on Lucas leaving Babel and Keane on the bench. That and decisions like that while we were top of the league is what cost us. When we chased we chased hard and well, when we led we were lambs.

Again, I think you're missing the point. This isn't an attack on his transfer policy or some sort of character assassination. Moreover, there doesn't always need to be some sort of clever insight to be found or an intellectual high ground.

Sometimes, it's actually quite simple and here it is in a nutshell: taking your foot off the pedal when you've got a team like Utd snapping at your heels is asking for trouble. I don't really understand why you're trying to argue we had the right approach after the fact when it's already been proven that it wasn't the right approach - we lost.

He consistently made decisions like that throughout the season, not just when we were leading. It doesn't defend them or mean they weren't errors, but I didn't see any change in how he managed.

I think the whole team struggled with leading, and that's hardly a new phenomenon in sports.
