Do YOU remember Luis Garcia vs Juventus?

There's different paths to achieving legendary status. Unlike the players you have listed, Luis' Liverpool career was short and sweet, but he's such an influential figure in our recent history that dismissing him so easily does him a massive disservice, and significantly undersells some of his performances in what were crucial games.
'zackerly

I won't deny that he saved our skins on many occasions, and he DID score some absolute belters. But he was just so inconsistent. You couldn't depend on him the you could with others, like Rushie, Gerrard, Fowler etc. For every moment of briliance he had, he'd have a moment of utter retardedness to balance it. I loved watching him when he was on his game, but unfortunately this didn't happen often enough for me.

Im not dismissing him. I've already said in another thread that he scored some great and important goals for us. But he's no legend in my mind.

If some can say that Smicer is a legend then Garcia is definitely a legend as well.
His goals got us to a Champions league final and a FA cup final.

Granted he could be frustrating at times, but after a year and half of seeing "the one who can not be mentioned" I'd rather have a frustrating Garcia.

I totally get why some people loved him. I do.
Just not for me. Like I said, lazy, careless and inconsistent. Its no surprise to me that he has basically lasted a season at every club bar us and Atletico. I can see why hes a fan favourite. I can also see why no team he has been in has got near winning a league title.

I dont think many would disagree with you there. But your starting base is pretty low if comparing him to "the one who cant be mentioned"

His goals against Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and the famous goal tha sent us to the CL final makes him a legend in my eyes.
Yes he was frustrating at times but his finishing ability and knack of scoring important goal far outway that.

Will always be remembered as a key player in our recent success. Iow a legend.

I read the first line of this post, and that was all I needed to read. People actually consider Smicer a legend? I can only assume this is because he scored one of the 3 in the CL final. But to consider him a legend? That's a fucking laugh right there. I mean, I'll give Garcia a bit of credit. He was way ahead of Smicer. But that doesn't make him a legend.

Ask Vlad.

Smicer won 7 trophies with us. Thats more than Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen won.

I guess you can elevate a player to Legend if you like them.

Smicer is a legend for me.

There are head legends and heart legends

Smicer & garcia are heart legends

I can understand the criticism that Garcia was inconsistent and lost the ball too much, the flip side of that is that he tried special things and always looked to create something, which was necessary in that team, since few players had the ability or inclination to try the more difficult pass or take on their man.

I don't understand the lazy thing. He's a flair player that would often play in a very organized pressing side, and without the ability to really tackle, when at RM, he did that.

So we've established that if you don't love Garcia you're a cold dead empty husk of a human being?

Smicer is a single fond memory that has survived an utterly forgettable career. He's not a legend.

No he didnt. He did fuck all for the team. The individual glory was sometimes magnificent. Not enough for me.
I would take a Dirk over a Garcia all day long.

I'm the inverse.

What a couple we are.

We should get a flat!

Well, I disagree, he's not best suited to the defensive side of the game but I didn't find him to be lazy at all. His movement was really good and he was often a good outlet ball because of it.

Yea, on work rate Dirk is his superior by far, as is the case with almost every other attacking player in the world.

Find us a flat in the middle then that has gas and electricity included. I'll sort the furniture

i wouldn't. Dirks dependability would be equivalent to 2 draws and a win in a run of 3 games, whereas garcia would get you 2 wins and loss. I hope this analogy makes sense...

This thread has descended to an all new low. Lets get a couple of things straight:

1: Smicer was shit. Not a legend.
2: Garcia was a better player. Not a legend.

That's not only his fault. The rest of the players around him weren't of league winning calibre either.
