Dirk seems to have undergone a weird personality change in the the past month. Sad to see him go if true, but not as sad as I would have been prior to his odd recent comments.

Dutchman signed for three years with Turkish club
Kuyt to Fenerbahce by Valentijn Driessen & Mike Verweij

Between all the worries in Orange by Dirk Kuyt (31) found time to a remarkable career move to make. The striker put Liverpool in Amsterdam today signed a contract with Turkey's Fenerbahce. The Katwijker signs for three years hence and wait a collaboration with the new coach of the Reds, Brendan Rodgers,
Kuyt experienced a disappointing season under Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and decided to mid-2013 despite its ongoing commitment to leave. What the Turks for the 88-fold international pay is (still) not known. With its one million shall transfer the former Feyenoord in the footsteps of another figurehead of Rotterdam. In 2003 Pierre van Hooijdonk exchanged for the club Feyenoord from Istanbul. no Feyenoord Kuyt was again the last few months wrongly linked to the Rotterdam club. The attacker carried an interview with Martin van Geel, but realized immediately that Feyenoord could never meet his salary demands. In 'Fener' he deserves a multiple of the amount he could reap in the Netherlands. Tomorrow Kuyt steps so as a player of Fenerbahce and Liverpool no longer in the plane that brings Orange to Krakow

Cons: Lose a dressing room presence, and a player who gives 100% to the club and scores critical goals in big games.
Pros: Had a terrible year and is on the decline.

It's a pretty poor fee, but the fact he's going to a team in Turkey I guess highlights his market value ...

He was one of the players on big wages right?

I think we are going to clear out a couple of big wage earners in another 12 months or so. Cole should be on his way out, and possibly Carra will retire. That should free up some space for someone new to come in....

Gutted. I guess he'd already made his mind up though to go.

True legend and never really got the credit he deserved in some quarters.

YNWA Dirk

Heh. quick edit there, I was thinking of Feyenoord for some reason, so he hasn't gone home, he's gone to the mad country.

Wasn't there comment a few weeks ago regarding the 1M fee. Was in his contract that if a foreign club came in for him this summer, he could go for 1M. At least it is one of the higher earners off the wage bill.

Kuyt agrees Fenerbahce deal
Liverpool Football Club can confirm that Dirk Kuyt has advised the club that he has today reached an agreement with Fenerbahce SK over a move to Turkey, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the next few days.

The ever popular Dutchman, who is currently preparing for Euro 2012 with Holland, made a reputation for scoring big goals in big games for Liverpool.
He arrived at Anfield from Feyenoord in 2006 and made his debut against West Ham United, when he came on as a substitute for Peter Crouch during the 2-1 win.
He has made 285 appearances in a red shirt, firing 71 goals.
Notable strikes include one in the Champions League final against AC Milan, a magnificent hat-trick against Manchester United at Anfield and a strike during the Carling Cup triumph over Cardiff City at Wembley in February. He also netted a vital penalty during the dramatic shoot-out victory.
Kuyt fired a late FA Cup winner against Manchester United at Anfield last season and has also scored dramatic late winners in the Merseyside derby.
Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Dirk all the very best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the club.

No need, no need.

That really really bothered me ... It takes away from the kind of 'symbol' he was for the Club over the last 6 years ...

I hope he wins many medals with Fener - something he deserved more of in his career with us, but I'm glad he at least got to do it once with us.

Anyone know what kind of wages he was on?

Must have been big wages. He was one of our most expensive signings ever when we signed him and he'd agreed further deals on top of that, so I'd imagine he'd have been at the high end, which I guess is unjustifiable for someone who was now essentially a bit part player.

I thought Turkish football was fucked due to match fixing, illegal payments, etc...

You'd imagine at least 80k, considering e re-negotiated his contract during his time here.
