And just for the record, I'm really not trying to be a cunt, I just love Dirk. No he's not the greatest player in the World, but he's full of beans, never gives up, plays well in big games and clearly loves the club.

The Diggler situation is somewhat frustrating because you can't but love his effort , his desire , his personality and love for the club . However sometimes he can be absolute rubbish and just wreck the head , slowing things up and adding very little in an attacking sense . To be fair though , I think if you asked him his favourite position he'd still say striker and I'm not aware of him playing out wide until Rafa pushed him there . I mean he was our main striker his first season here .Also when he plays in that position for the dutch he looks much better , he gives a great balance with all the other attacking players around him , something we've lacked for a few yrs .
In the long term though , if his role in the team is to be out wide then i'd much prefer say an Ashley Young or someone with a bit more pace out there .

He's a decent striker, given the chances. He can't beat a defence on his own, but he can clearly stick the ball in the net if the opportunity is there.
I'm glad he got a chance to prove this properly before Carroll takes over. He's shown lately that he can lead the line for us when we need him to, and good on him.
