Dirk Kuyt Appreciation Thread

I'll miss him aswell. He's been a fantastic servant to the club, but its time to move. This is the last chance to get some money for him, and he's been very poor this season.

Yep, I'd lose half the squad before I lost Dirk. I'd like to see him finish his career with us, but he wants to play football and Dalglish will not give it to him.

He's been a legend for us, but if we can get a high enough price for him, it's time to cash in. This summer we'll need all the cash we can get our hands on, and unfortunately that means Dirk's available too.

I really do find it hard to fathom how the possible sale of Johnson and Kuyt will improve our team. For all Kuyts limitations he is a cracking player IMHO.

Has he really been poor this season?!

Hes been benched and barely played the majority of it as Kenny persisted with the hapless Henderson.

Itd be a massive mistake to ship him out for a few million - he won us the cardiff final after all.

I doubt we'd get big money for him and i also doubt we will bring anyone in who will make his position their own, football is now a squad game and we need players like Dirk if we are to be competitive.

I suppose there's some cold logic to it but I'd hate to see him go. He's an honorary Scouser and one of the best servants we've had for many years. A gem of a man.

Bit part player? Poor?

Involved in 28 League games and 2 goals

He's not been good....

Great servant to the club and I wish other players had the same attitude on the pitch.
But I used to agree with Vlad about him...

Dirk Kuyt's agent has moved to play down reports linking the Liverpool striker with a move to Roma.

The 31-year-old has been a bit-part player under Kenny Dalglish this term, starting just 19 games, and there are rumours his six-year association with the club could soon be over.

Roma have been linked with the Dutch striker and so have his former club Feyenoord in Holland, but the player's adviser insists he would ideally like to remain on Merseyside.

"He would prefer to stay at Liverpool," Rob Jansen told Algemeen Dagblad.

"If that is not possible there is a big possibility that he would decide to choose a new foreign adventure.

"If he did ever return to the Netherlands, then it would 100 per cent be for Feyenoord. I am going to Liverpool in the next 10 days to talk to them about Kuyt."

That's just glib, considering our options, considering our needs and considering our likely budget.

Dutch international Dirk Kuyt will cost just £1 million if Liverpool sell him this summer.

The surprisingly cut-price sell-on clause, agreed when Kuyt signed a contract extension last season, will be triggered if the striker is allowed to move to an overseas club.

Liverpool’s willingness to let the 31 year-old move on for such a nominal fee underlines the determination of manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli to impose a ‘lower age, lower wage’ transfer policy this summer.

For a player who was signed for £11 million — and who will be a key figure in Holland’s Euro 2012 squad — to be given the chance to leave for a bargain price is a shock, even if he has passed 30.

It is Kuyt’s age and salary— he earns £3.5-£4 million a year — which is determining his availability. With an extra £1 million from his transfer, that would provide more revenue for a younger replacement on decreased terms.

But we'd save 3.5m a year! It's a great idea!

Bye bye Dirk. We sponked your wages on a load of shitty players so now you've got to go.

i really think we have to be more ruthless dealing with players aged 28-30 in the future. a couple of years ago we probably could've got £15m or so for Kuyt, now they're talking about £1m (even wihtout the clause probably no more than £5m). so we've effectively paid around £5m a year (exc. wages) for him since 2010. to put that into some sort of perspective, say (just say) we'd signed Hazard back then as an 18 yr old for £25m, over 10 years to his 28th birthday he'd cost just £2.5m a year, and that's before any kind of residual value is deducted.

people would do well to remember the lesson before getting too outraged at the suggestion of selling an ageing but still valuable Glen Johnson. we're all accountants now, you know. 😉

Except that's not how it works so that's an entirely specious assertion.

If you're telling me how it doesn't work I'd have to guess that you reckon you know how it does. Kuyt doesn't seem to be earning above his value. All the money wasted lately has been on huge transfer fees for buckets of steaming piss.

He's not gone yet and you've already decided who we've signed and they're crap. Your bias is showing.

So who do you want?

For the million quid we'll get for Dirk or for the 3.5 freed up by his wages? I don't think there would be any possibility of improving that squad position next season if that's what we're on about. If not, please make it clear, otherwise I'll say Messi.

We've wasted far more on much younger players lately.

2 wrongs don't make a right. i don't like our transfers in any more than you do, but never signing or selling anyone again is hardly the solution. changing who made those decisions in the first place might be.

Thank you. No interest whatsoever in being anything other than negative. At least you're being open about it.
