Curtis Jones - Under Rated?

I don't have a problem with him being benched for a bit, he's clearly got a bit of an attitude about him and that has to be tempered by the coaches reining him in when they feel it's required.

Long term I'm not sure where he fits into a Klopp 4-3-3, I don't think he's quick enough to play as one of the wide fowards, which means either the false 9 position or at CM in one of the more advanced spots. CM is probably more likely because it's the weakest area of our squad competing with Keita and Ox. I don't think he's a direct competitor to Fabinho Henderson or Thiago really as they are much more holding midfielders than box to box runners.

I can only assume letting Gini go was based partly on the belief that we had enough depth in the squad to cover his contributions. That likely means more game time for Jones and Elliot. He will certainly get games

He will certainly get games but he's at a critical point is his development, he's not a kid anymore he needs to show some maturity and push on or he will find Elliot and Gordon ahead of him in the queue

I don't mind him, he's clearly got a bit of quality and is good (and strong) on the ball. He could probably do a similar job to Gini in the long term. But I'd rather at this stage and gauging the type of players we already have in midfield, use someone like Elliott, who's more direct and exciting a prospect.

There's nothing to suggest he can't have a future here, but he needs to learn and he needs to have a bit more of a defined role, than just making up the numbers in midfield.

The issue for me is that we look at his peers, players like Mount and Foden and he's nowhere near the same level of quality. So while he's been championed as one of the next big things and someone who can be called on to do a job, I don't think anyone is particularly shitting themselves at the prospect of facing him.

Just that? That's it?

Little rumours I've heard about his attitude, and little isolated incidents here and there. But yeah, just look at him and his demeanour. I think he seriously needs to sort himself out if he wants to improve and become a regular in this team. Plus, I also don't think he's THAT good.

That's a bit different from he's a gobshite because he looks like one. Hopefully they're not true because he is talented, but you don't get in a Klopp team without attitude and a ridiculously high work rate.

He also does look like a gobshite, like.

Worth remembering that whatever plan there was for Jones, the reality was different. Our midfield was wrecked for most of last season for various reasons. The guy came in, probably played more games than he otherwise would, doing jobs in the team that he might otherwise not have done, and he actually did pretty well - scored a few, set up a few, generally didn't look out of place.

He does need to push on a bit more this season for sure but hopefully he can have a chance to do that in a team that is doing well.

I'm not saying that Jones isn't a cocky little shit at times but I strongly suspect that Harvey Elliott is too.
Nah, Harry might look it, but to me he seems more like the Beckham type.
Curtis is straight up chav.

I like Curtis, but if you are a bit of a gobshite, you have to back it up on the pitch.
I loved how Martinez tried to unsettle him for his pen against the arse, and he made him a fool and told him off after.

I’ve not rated the fella tbh... and yes I noticed Redmen Tv giving it a bit much...

Mind you I still haven’t forgiven him for a wank header which gave West Brom an equalizer last season and began the horrific slide, mind you perhaps blaming him is harsh as Klopp shudda taken him off earlier.

Maybe good enough for a mid table team... maybe...

should have read this earlier... yep... couldn’t agree more... cracker against Everton tho
It was a cracker….How many times can you say that about him in all the other games he’s played though.

It’ll be interesting to see how many games he gets with Harvey bursting on the scene
