Just watched a few mins of RedMen TV, where he was eulogising how talented CJ is? Amongst the many things he said, 1) He held on to the ball really well and could go past opposition players with ease 2) He was deceivingly quick, possibly quicker than Elliott.
I thought one of his issues was that he was slow and lacks the muscle to fill the void Gini left.

Different kind of player to Elliot though innit. I'd rather he started ahead of Keita. Mind you I'd rather you started instead of Keita so I'll have to qualify that.

There were a couple of games we were dominating last season, he got hooked, we got fucked. He's a very good player.

Your first problem is watching redmen tv. He’s possibly overrated. He scored a few goals which got us all excited. But he’s never pushed on. Seems to hold on to the ball too long and loses it as a result. Elliott is probably ahead of him.
Spot on. Is pretty much word for word what I've been saying about Curtis. I think he needs a loan move.

He is yea, but I think he tends to come out right where Elliott was playing Saturday. I could be misremembering because I’ve already forgotten about most of last season.

He is quality. At 19-20 years old, he did not look that out of place in our midfield. He is not the finished article and has some flaws which need to be ironed out. But on the whole, a very exciting prospect.

I wish he was as good over 90 mins as he is in flashes. I hope Klopp can find a way to nurture consistency. It would be lovely to have two scousers in the starting xi

He does look good on the ball but it’s what you do with it that counts…he doesn’t do an awful lot.

Thinking about it, it feels like the problem for Jones is that he kinda modelled his game on Coutinho more than any other player I can think of. He's more like a classic 10 than anything else and maybe is one of those players full of talent but he can't quite fit in a 4-3-3. No doubt Klopp wants to make it work but I bet if he ended up at a mid table side he would look amazing but until he finds a place in our side (the Gini/water carrier) or the driver from midfield who gets goals but tracks back like a boss (theoretically a Milner) he probably won't get the games he needs.

A year on loan at the right Prem side would surely do wonders but it doesn't seem to be on the cards

He was fun to watch at the onset, more instinctive and aggressive. Last year it looked like he was learning how to play in our midfield and doing the more disciplined stuff, making him play very within himself. To be fair he was playing in a much worse side, which had defensive liabilities that made everyone cautious. However he also just didn't look as athletic or impressive.

Who does look impressive in our midfield though, over a long period of time, in an aggressive or spectacular way?

I really like Jones. He has the occasional brain lapse when he's deep on possession, which clearly infuriates Klopp, but beyond that he's above his years and will be class for a long time. I hope he gets loads of games this year. There's loads more to come from him.

I think he is:-

1) Brilliant
2) has loads of confidence and belief in himself
3) The midfielder in our squad with the most skills.

That's difficult say if you aren't defining what 'aggressive or spectacular' means.

Fabinho is clearly one of the world's best so meets that criteria. Milner is waning but the same. Hendo too. Thiago has just arrived. Keita has been perma-injured. Others have flattered to deceive : Shaq. Ox. and Jones (to date). Coutinho clearly was spectacular too until he departed.

We've been looking for the third part to the puzzle for a while. Thiago could be it, we'll have to see how this season plays out but his record (in th BL especially) suggests both aggressive (in midfield battles) and spectacular. Long term Elliott and Gordon both look amazing (Gordon was superb in the U23 match posted up earlier).

You really need to clarify 3) because there are a few that are clearly better in that dept. (Thiago, Keita, Elliott and contentiously maybe even Gordon).

Maybe now that we don’t have that perma-fit ghost, Gini, in our midfield and we have to rely on a group of midfielders that seem to find it easier to pick up injuries than a couple of gold digging slappers at a dodgy nightclub, Jones might get a game or two.

I have enjoyed him settling into the team. I said it a few times but he clearly got instructed to become more of a system player - but you still get glimpses of his vision, passing, technique and eye for goal. He's young and surrounded by much better players in his position, but I would have full faith in him starting if one of the key CMs got injured, and even just rotating in and out.

I think in 2 seasons time we will see him as a regular fixture in the CM, just not quite yet due to the role Klopp needs from a CM.

Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Keita, Ox, Milner, Eliott are all ahead of him.
Good luck getting games.

I can only assume that he's not impressing in training (or not progressing in the way the coaches would like) because he seemed to fall out favour in the second half of last season.

Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense for Ox and Milner at least to be ahead of him.

Yeah pretty much. Like I said, I think the boy needs games and the only way he's getting that is if he goes out on loan.

I'm wondering if he's better off playing LW. He likes to run with the ball, and cut in and shoot.

Like it or not, Klopp's first priority for a midfielder is someone who is tactically astute and doesn't give the ball away cheaply. Creativity has never been his major focus. That's just not how he sets up the midfield.

Nothing to do with the concussion he got against Osasuna then.

Fuck sake lads we are 2 games into his second season. Maybe he gets game time, maybe it doesn't but some of these comments are ridiculous.

I grew up with gerrard. Aggressive or spectacular is Gerrard. That's not an analogy, its actually what it means for me, and its what we've all been missing while we're winning the league!

I mean smashing things in and making direct runs. I mean instinctively attacking, taking space you are given and surprising everyone by driving through the heart.

Yes well I grew up before Gerrard when we were by far the dominant club, so I've seen a few. However Gerrard was a generational talent. It's really not fair to compare even most top players in the PL to him.
