[article]
Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Diego Llorente.

The 27-year-old joins the club from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad for an undisclosed fee.

The defender has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2024.

Llorente started his career at Real Madrid, making his Bernabeu debut against Osasuna in June 2013.

He spent the 2015/16 campaign at Rayo Vallecano and at the end of the season was rewarded with his first Spain cap in the 3-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The following campaign he joined Malaga on loan, continuing to build up his La Liga experience with 25 appearances in Spain’s top-flight.

This led to Real Sociedad moving to secure his signature on a permanent basis from Real Madrid in June 2017, where he signed a five-year deal at the Reale Arena.

At Sociedad Llorente made 88 appearances over the last three seasons, scoring eight goals for the club, with his last outing coming 11 days ago, in their 1-1 draw with Valladolid.

To date Llorente has won five international caps for Spain, with his last coming in the 2-1 victory over Romania in May 2019, whilst he was on the bench for their last two matches in September against Germany and Ukraine.

Nicolas Otamendi - Benfica (£15m)

Another “accounting trick” exchange, like Hoever-Jota. No way someone would have paid £15M for Otamendi at 30 with 1 year left on his contract.

Manuel Baum - Schalke (Head Coach)

[article]Manuel Baum has been appointed as the new Schalke head coach on a two-year deal, running until June 2022.

Baum, 41, steps into the hot-seat at the Veltins-Arena following the departure of David Wagner who had overseen a run of 18 league matches stretching back to 17 January 2020.

"In Manuel Baum, we have been able to win an absolute specialist for Schalke," said sporting director Jorg Schneider on the club's website. "If you look at his previous jobs, you will find that his teams always had clear structures and styles on the pitch. This is a very important factor in our current situation."

Baum earned his first Bundesliga head coaching job back in December 2016, stepping up from his role as a youth coach to take over from Dirk Schuster at Augsburg. The former 1860 Munich youth player was in the job at the WWK-Arena April 2019 and has since coached Germany's national U20 and U18s teams in seven matches since September 2019.

"Schalke is a terrific club with an incredible amount of tradition and sporting potential," Baum said. "Our most urgent task is to give the team a sense of achievement again as quickly as possible, in training and in the game. I am convinced of the quality of our squad."

Schalke have also announced that Naldo, who played for the club between 2016 and 2019, has re-joined the team as a member of Baum's coaching staff.

Baum takes over a Schalke side on a five-game losing run in the German top-flight, sitting rock-bottom of the Bundesliga table after two weeks of the 2020/21 season.

The Royal Blues' first game under the reigns of Baum will be an away trip to RB Leipzig, with the infamous Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund to come at the end of October.[/article]

Ademola Lookman - Fulham (loan)

[article]
The Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ademola Lookman on loan from RB Leipzig.

A 22-year-old forward who is comfortable operating anywhere along the frontline, Lookman will remain at Craven Cottage for the duration of the 2020/21 season.

He told FFCtv: “I’m glad to have it over the line and done now. I'm glad I can be here to help the team.

“After the conversations I had with Scott Parker, I got a great feeling, that's the working relationship I want to have. He’s young and hungry and I’m young and hungry as well so it’s a good match.”

Tony Khan added: “I’m excited to announce the arrival of Ademola Lookman to Fulham Football Club on loan from RB Leipzig!

“Ademola, in his young career, has gained experience in the Premier League and Bundesliga and contributed in England’s 2017 Under-20 World Cup win, and we believe that he’s a very good addition to our squad! Come on Fulham!”

Born and raised in London, Lookman was spotted by Charlton Athletic while playing for local side Waterloo, and joined the Addicks in 2014.

Such was his progress, he made his first team debut a year later, just two weeks after his 17th birthday, and never looked back.

Having scored 12 times in little over a year for Charlton, the Premier League beckoned for Lookman, with Everton agreeing a deal worth up to £11m for his services in January 2017.

He immediately endeared himself to the Goodison Park faithful with a fine debut goal a matter of minutes after coming off the bench, as Manchester City were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by the Toffees.

Lookman had his first taste of European football the following season as Everton competed in the Europa League, and he then joined Leipzig on loan in the winter transfer window.

He continued his habit of notching on his debut, coming off the bench to hit a late winner against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

That was the first of five goals he scored in 11 Bundesliga outings – of which just seven were starts – prompting the German club to part with £22.5m to make the move permanent.

Lookman’s first England call-up came at Under-19 level, helping a Young Lions side that included Josh Onomah reach the Semi-Finals of the European Championship in 2016.

A year later the pair were in the Under-20 squad that won the World Cup, with Lookman scoring three times in the tournament as they became the first England team to win a global competition since 1966.

He was later a regular in the England Under-21 setup, winning 11 caps.

Serginho Dest - Barcelona (€21m + add ons up to €5m)

[article]FC Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergiño Dest. The cost of the operation is 21 million euros plus a further 5 million in variables.

The player will sign a contract for the next five seasons, through to the end of the 2024/25 season, with a buyout clause set at 400 million euros.

Born on 3 November 2000 in Almere in the Netherlands, Sergiño Dest is a young right back with a great future ahead of him. At just 19 years of age, he established himself as fixture in the starting XI in the Ajax Amsterdam side in the 2019/20 season after having joined the club from his home town team in 2012.

The defender began his career with Almere City before joining Ajax where initially he played as a striker in the youth teams before an injury to a team mate gave him the chance to shine at right back.

He made his professional debut for the Ajax B team at the age of 17 in a game against PSV Eindhoven in October 2018 and mid-season he made the jump the first team. At the end of July 2019 he made his first appearance for Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup and his contribution did not go unnoticed by coach Eric ten Hag as Dest went on to make 35 appearances for the first team last season, 27 of them as a starter. In defence he was solid and going forward he scored two goals and provided six assists.

Now, the Netherlands born USA international will have the chance to wear the Barça shirt in the latest episode of short but eventful career so far.

Sergiño Dest combines many excellent qualities needed in a full back: attacking when called for, solid defensively, unruffled in possession and creative with it. The defender has the ability to take players on and his pace is a virtue going forward and defending. Those qualities will be on display from now on in a Barça shirt, a challenge for a fearless young full back. [/article]

Coufal joins the Hammers from reigning Czech First League champions Slavia Prague on a contract until the summer of 2023 for an undisclosed fee, with the option of a further two years.

Born in the city of Ostrava in the far east of Czech Republic in August 1992, Coufal began his career with FC Hlučín, debuting in a 2. Liga fixture at Dukla Prague in September 2010, just four weeks after his 18th birthday.

It was during his final campaign at Slovan Liberec that Coufal was rewarded for his consistently impressive performances with a senior international debut for Czech Republic, starting his country’s 1-0 friendly win in Qatar in November 2017.

The following summer, he was signed by one of Czech Republic’s two biggest clubs, Slavia Prague, where he teamed up with Souček and enjoyed two trophy-filled seasons, completing a domestic double in 2018/19 and securing a second straight First League title last season.

“In Maximilian we’ve brought in the high-quality reinforcement we’ve been looking for,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

“We were interested in him last year, so it’s all the nicer that it’s worked out now. Not only can he play in a number of positions in attack, but his presence, commitment out on the pitch and his unwavering will to win make him the kind of player who can make the difference.”

Following his stint in the German Bundesliga, the former centre-back joined up with Dominik Frieser’s LASK Linz side in 19/20 where, together, the pair topped a UEFA Europa League group containing the likes of Sporting Lisbon and PSV Eindhoven, before overcoming AZ Alkmaar across two legs to reach the Round of 16.

Mick McCarthy - APOEL FC

[article]Former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has made a surprise return to football with APOEL Nicosia.

The 62-year-old has agreed at the Cypriot side until May 2022 and will once again work with assistant Terry Connor, rekindling a partnership seen at Wolves, Ipswich Town and with the Irish national side.

McCarthy has been out of football since leaving his post with Ireland in April, and has not worked at club level since being sacked by Ipswich in May 2018.

APOEL have lifted the Cypriot domestic title a record 28 times, but have made a poor start to the season and were knocked out of the Europa League play-offs by Slovan Liberec.

Former coach Marinos Ouzounidis was shown the exit door following a run of four games without a win, and McCarthy becomes the club's 13th permanent coach since 2015.

A club statement on APOEL's wesbite reads: "We welcome both of them to APOEL and we wish them to immediately help the team return to good and substantial performances so that it can meet its goals, which are to win titles."

McCarthy was appointed as Howard Wilkinson's successor at Sunderland in March 2003 but was unable to halt the Black Cats' slide into the Championship.

Sunderland suffered a painful penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace in the playoffs, but stormed to the title the following season.

However, the Black Cats struggled on their return to the top flight and McCarthy was sacked following a three-year spell in the dugout.[/article]
