Callum Wilson - Newcastle (£20m)

[article]Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of striker Callum Wilson from AFC Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee and has signed a contract that will keep him at St. James’ Park until summer 2024.

Callum Wilson said: "From the minute I knew that Newcastle were interested, it was definitely something that appealed to me.

"It's a massive club with great history. Along the years, they've had great strikers so if I can emulate half of what they've done, I'd like to attempt that.

"I believe in my ability as a player. As a striker I think it's important to set yourself goals long term and short term, and I'm hoping to achieve them.

"With the players around me, I believe we can get the goals we need as team and I want to help contribute to that."

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce said: "Callum is somebody I've admired for a long time and I'm delighted to get him.

"He has done fantastically well at Bournemouth and was deservedly playing centre forward for England less than two years ago.

"The club has worked ever so hard to get Callum here and we have beaten off competition from a number of clubs.

"I'm grateful the club has made it happen. Lee Charnley and those behind the scenes deserve a lot of credit."

Wilson began his career at hometown club Coventry City, rising through the club’s academy and enjoying loan spells at Kettering and Tamworth before scoring 23 goals in 55 senior appearances for the Sky Blues.

After moving to AFC Bournemouth in 2014, Wilson fired the Cherries to promotion in his first season – scoring 20 goals in 45 Championship outings – before becoming the South Coast club’s talisman in the Premier League.

His performances brought full international recognition in November 2018, with Wilson scoring on his England debut against the United States at Wembley.[/article]

Ryan Fraser - Newcastle (free transfer)

[article]Newcastle United are delighted to confirm the signing of Scotland international winger Ryan Fraser.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal at St. James' Park and joins Steve Bruce's side after leaving AFC Bournemouth in June.

Fraser will once again team up with former Cherries teammate Callum Wilson, with the England striker also sealing a move to the Magpies on Monday.

Ryan Fraser said: "I'm absolutely buzzing for it - I came down to see the place the other day and it was all just good things; the manager, the place, the fans, the messages I've been getting.

"It was just a no-brainer, really, to play in such a big stadium with such passionate fans, and being back up in the north again is big as well.

"So I'm really looking forward to it and I just cant wait to show everyone what I can do, help the team and help us get back to where we belong."

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce said: "I'm delighted to bring Ryan to Newcastle United. We have held off big competition to get his signature and that says a lot about what this club has to offer.

"His ability and his contributions on the pitch speak for themselves and I'm looking forward to seeing him getting to work in a Newcastle shirt.

"He has wonderful chemistry on the pitch with Callum Wilson, which excites me, and I hope it excites our supporters ahead of the new season."

Born in Aberdeen, Fraser began his career with his hometown side in the Scottish top division, signing professional terms in summer 2010 and making his first team debut as a 16-year-old.

After catching the eye in the opening months of the 2012/13 campaign, Fraser secured a switch to AFC Bournemouth and he would help his new club to climb from League One to the Premier League in the space of just two-and-a-half seasons.

A loan spell at Ipswich Town followed before Fraser returned to the South Coast to become an integral part of Eddie Howe's side, registering 14 Premier League assists during the 2018/19 season - second only to Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

After 208 appearances for the club, Fraser’s contract at the Vitality Stadium expired in June 2020.[/article]

Abdoulaye Doucoure - Everton (reportedly £25m)

[article]Abdoulaye Doucoure has completed a transfer to Everton from Watford for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal until the end of June 2023 with a Club option for a fourth season.

The French midfielder, 27, becomes the Blues’ third major signing in four days following the arrivals of Brazil international Allan and Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez, both 29.

"I have been waiting a long time to come here and now it has happened so I am very happy," Doucoure told evertonfc.com.

"I had some interest from other clubs but from the beginning when Everton showed an interest in me I told my agent to focus on Everton.

"It was the only club I wanted to join.

"Everton has a big history in English football and it is a good club for me to have a step up in my career.

"I am very happy now to be an Everton player and very excited for the future."

Arriving at Watford from Stade Rennes in February 2016, Doucoure spent the remainder of that season on loan in Spain with Granada before establishing himself in the Hornets' midfield the following campaign.

He played 129 Premier League games across his four full seasons at Vicarage Road and was directly involved in 29 goals, scoring 17 and assisting 12.

"I can bring my energy - I am a powerful player, I can run a lot, all the game," said Doucoure.

"I can add goals as well. I will try my best to score goals and help the team.

"It is an ambitious project here and it was a big part of my decision, having [Director of Football] Marcel [Brands] and the coach Carlo Ancelotti wanting me.

"When you come to a club you want the manager and, of course, the Board to support you.

"It was the case with Everton and I was very eager to come here.”

Doucoure, capped by France at every age-group level from Under-17 to Under-21, added: “I know a lot of things about Everton. I know the blue colour is something very important here and the Club’s history.

“I want to thank the fans for their support already - now I can’t wait to start on the pitch.”[/article]

Aleksandar Kolarov - Inter Milan (€1.5m)

[article]Aleksandar Kolarov is officially an Inter player. The Serb joins on a permanent deal from Roma.

You never get used to war, but to sirens you do. Or at least, that was the case for Aleksandar Kolarov and his friends. They were 14 years old and life in Belgrade was certainly different for them than it was for their contemporaries. No, it was punctured with air-raid sirens. Schools, closed. Days were spent playing football on the street, waiting for the siren’s wail. This was challenged up to a certain point, though: the free football played by these lads went on past midnight, past the curfew. Passion and obsession, in a positive sense.

Aleksandar, born in 1985 and with a long career in the game behind him, has a visceral love for the football. From the Red Star Belgrade academy to Inter, via Čukarički Stankom, OFK Beograd, Lazio, Manchester City and Roma. Above all though, via his back garden and games with his brother Nikola. Two games in particular: first, the two brothers would place the ball in the middle and race, from opposite ends, to contest it, like in water polo. Then, free kicks, looking for an impossible angle, with the neighbours waiting to shout at the boys from their balconies.

From the left full-back position, his game is one of motivation and discipline. And an air of seriousness that Aleksandar has always carried, at the cost of coming off a little surly. That he is not, he is simply Kolarov: a lover of the football, conscious of his own ability and with a desire, even at 35 years of age, to add pages to a story, which has seen him become captain of Serbia, of which he is very proud.

This is Aleksandar Kolarov: not just free kicks, which everyone knows so well. But a new Interista. #WelcomeKolarov[/article]

Jamal Lewis - Newcastle (£15m)

[article]Highly-rated full-back Jamal Lewis has become Newcastle United's fifth signing of the summer after joining the Magpies from Norwich City.

The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international has signed a five-year contract at St. James' Park after earning rave reviews for his performances last season despite the Canaries' relegation from the Premier League.

Lewis, who started his youth career with his hometown club, Luton, before joining Norwich's Academy in 2014, won a Sky Bet Championship title-winners' medal with the East Anglian side in 2018/19 and was also named in the league's Team of the Season before further enhancing his reputation in the top flight last term.

He is the third full international to join Newcastle United this week, following England forward Callum Wilson and Scotland star Ryan Fraser, whose signatures were confirmed on Monday.

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce said: "Jamal is a very exciting prospect. I watched him flourish in the Championship two years ago and he made a real fist of it in the Premier League last season.

"He is only 22 years old and has a wonderful future ahead of him so I hope he is a Newcastle United full-back for years to come.

"It's been a great week for us with incoming players. We have had to be patient but these players improve us, which is key."

Lewis, speaking to NUFC TV, added: "It was a little bit unexpected but it was something that I was obviously looking forward to when I heard that there was serious interest, so I'm delighted to be here now.

"Newcastle's such a great club with such history and I knew it was an opportunity I would love to take with both hands."[/article]

Jayden Bogle & Max Lowe - Sheff Utd (~£10m)
Ethan Ampadu - Sheff Utd (loan)

[article]Chris Wilder has added two exciting wing-backs to his squad, with the long-term signings of Derby County duo Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe.

Both players have penned four-year deals at Bramall Lane with United paying the Rams an undisclosed combined fee for their services.

On the double deal, a delighted Wilder remarked: "The Championship has been a great recruitment area for us and I wanted to bring some young players in who will provide competition for places.

"Jayden and Max will put huge pressure on George (Baldock) and Enda (Stevens). It was important we got the right characters, the right type of players, ones who are athletic and technically very good, both are modern day wing backs and I'm looking forward to working with them.

"We've got a clear plan and identification of what we need and we're still going through that process. We're not just signing players because other people are in for them, we're signing these players because they fit into what we are about.

"It's game on for everyone, it's not a warning, it's a fact and yet again I have to thank the board for making the two permanent signings happen because it's a great bit of business for the football club."

Bogle had spells at Reading and Swindon Town before moving to Pride Park in January 2016.

Having impressed consistently for Derby's U18s and U23s when selected, the attacking full back was promoted to the first team ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Under then boss Frank Lampard, the England U20 international went on to make 50 appearances in a season that saw the Rams lose to Aston Villa in the play-off final at Wembley.

Bogle arrives at Bramall Lane having amassed 90 senior games at the age of just 20.

Meanwhile, Lowe came through Derby's academy system and turned professional at Pride Park in June 2015.

Comfortable anywhere down the left-hand side, his senior debut came in the EFL Cup in 2016, converting the decisive penalty in a 14-13 shootout win for the Rams against Carlisle United.

The 23-year-old, who has represented England at numerous youth levels, has played close to 50 times for Derby, whilst more recently he has impressed in the SPL whilst on-loan at Aberdeen during two loan stints at Pittodrie.[/article]

[article]United have made a third signing of the day, with Chris Wilder adding a versatile Welsh international to his squad.

Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu, who can play in a number or defensive and midfield roles, arrives at Bramall Lane on a season-long loan deal, following the arrival of Derby County duo Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe.

Of Ampadu, Wilder commented: "Ethan is an outstanding young player for Chelsea, and we've worked really hard to get his signature for the season.

"We need to thank Frank Lampard and the people at Chelsea for helping making this happen. We've got a good relationship with them and they know we're going to take good care of him.

"It's an important season for Ethan and playing in the Premier League for us is a good move for everyone. He brings a lot of qualities to the group and he's someone we've tracked for two or three seasons."

The Exeter born operator began his career at his hometown club and made his senior debut for the Grecians as a 15-year-old in an EFL Cup tie against Brentford in August 2016.

In the summer of 2017, the Blues came calling for Ampadu's services and when he made his Stamford Bridge debut a few months later he became Chelsea's youngest debutant in over a decade.

In 2018, the now 13 times capped Wales international, penned a new five-year deal in the capital and was sent out on-loan to RB Leipzig by Frank Lampard to further his development last season.[/article]

Alphonse Areola - Fulham (loan with option to buy)

[article]The Club is delighted to announce the signing of Alphonse Areola on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The goalkeeper will remain at Craven Cottage for the duration of the 2020/21 season, with Fulham holding an option to make the move permanent.

After the deal was finalised, Areola told FFCtv: “I am very happy everything is done. Scott Parker called me and I had a good feeling. He said he really wanted me.

“Fulham is a historic club in London and I have heard a lot about the stadium.

“I hope this season will be a good one for us. I want to bring my energy and do everything for this team to keep us where we belong to be.”

Tony Khan added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Alphonse Areola to our Fulham family! Alphonse has experience at the very highest level, as he’s played in France’s national team, won the league title with PSG, had success at RC Lens, Bastia and with Villarreal, and most recently he played for Real Madrid as they won La Liga last season.

“We’re excited that he’s joining us, and he’ll be an excellent addition to our squad as for our Premier League campaign ahead! Come on Fulham!”

The 27-year-old arrives in SW6 with an enviable CV having won the World Cup with France two years ago, while he has also won domestic titles both in his homeland and Spain.

Born in Paris, Areola was signed by PSG at a young age, before spending time at the illustrious Clairefontaine football centre.

He made his senior debut for the club in their 2012/13 title winning season, in a side which featured the likes of David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Areola spent the subsequent three seasons out on loan, enjoying success with each team that he represented.

First he helped Lens win promotion from Ligue 2 and was subsequently named as the division’s best goalkeeper, before seeing Bastia to a respectable mid-table finish in Ligue 1 and a runner-up spot in the French equivalent of the League Cup.

2015/16 saw Areola move to Spain where he played a significant role in what was a fantastic year for Villarreal. In addition to finishing fourth in La Liga, they also reached the Semi-Final of the UEFA Europa League.

That form saw him return to Paris, where he soon established himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper, going on to add two more Ligue 1 winner’s medals to his collection in 2018 and 2019.

He started last season as PSG’s first choice, before the arrival of Keylor Navas saw him move to Real Madrid on loan as part of the deal. He featured nine times during his spell at the Bernabeu, as Real won La Liga for the first time in three years.

Having represented France at every age group – during which time he collected an Under-20 World Cup winner’s medal – Areola made his debut for the senior side in 2018 and now has three caps to his name.

He was also a member of Les Bleus squad which was triumphant at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Areola's honours list:

4 x Ligue 1
1 x La Liga
2 x French Supercup
2 x League Cup
2 x French Cup
1 x Spanish Supercup
1 x World Cup
1 x Under-20 World Cup[/article]

Kenny Tete - Fulham (€3.2m pluss 10% sell-on clause)

[article]The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Netherlands international defender Kenny Tete.

Right-back Tete has signed from Lyon for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal, with a Club option to extend by a further 12 months.

“It is a great feeling. I feel blessed to be here,” the 24-year-old said to FFCtv. “I cannot wait to start my new journey and meet my new teammates.

“I heard of Fulham’s interest and I was bowled over. I spoke with people around me and knew quickly I wanted to leave Lyon and join Fulham.

“The team is back in the Premier League now and I will give 100 percent to keep us there.”

Tony Khan also commented: “I’m excited to announce the permanent transfer of Kenny Tete to Fulham Football Club.

“With the addition of Kenny, we’ve strengthened our squad to compete in the Premier League. He’s a young player with great experience, and I’m thrilled that he’s joining us on a long contract.

“I’m confident that with his talent and his desire to win, he’ll be a great asset for us now and in future seasons. Come on Fulham!”

Tete arrives fresh from a fantastic UEFA Champions League campaign, with Lyon making their way to the Semi-Finals having eliminated some big sides along the way.

The Dutch international should feel right at home in SW6 as he too knows how to knock Juventus out of Europe, featuring in both games as Lyon triumphed over the Old Lady across two legs.

He also helped them to dispatch Manchester City 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals, before Lyon’s valiant effort was brought to an end by eventual winners Bayern Munich in the Semis.

Tete helped Lyon to a 4-1 win in their first game of the current season last Friday, which proved to be the last of his 82 appearances for the club.

Prior to his time in France, Tete was a regular for Ajax, his local side having been born in Amsterdam.

He made his debut for the senior side in the 2014/15 season, and went on to make 55 appearances for the Club, including helping them reach the 2017 Europa League Final.

Having represented the Netherlands at youth level up to Under-21, he made his full international debut a day after turning 20 and has now gone on to win 13 caps. Tete was a member of the Dutch squad for the recent Nations League matches.[/article]

Michy Batshuayi - Crystal Palace (loan)

[article]Michy Batshuayi has joined Crystal Palace on a loan deal from Chelsea until the end of this season.

The Belgium international striker returns to Selhurst Park following a successful loan spell at the back-end of the 2018/19 season, where he scored six goals in 13 appearances for the Eagles.

Batshuayi, 26, netted twice on international duty for Belgium on Tuesday night before finalising his move back to south London, taking his international tally to an impressive 18 goals in 30 games. His club record stands at 120 goals in 325 senior appearances across several top divisions in Europe.

Club Chairman Steve Parish said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Michy back to Crystal Palace. He is a player we’ve long admired, as well as being an immensely popular figure with everyone here during his last successful spell with us.

"With other top European clubs vying for his services it is immensely pleasing that Michy chose to come back to help us up the table as well as cementing his place in the Belgium squad for next summer's Euros."

Roy Hodgson added: "I am very happy we have secured Michy on a season long loan. He made a great impact at the club in his previous loan spell, albeit only five months long, displaying a goal scoring threat which we very much needed at that time and we are confident he will produce again.

"As a player who will help to convert our chances in to goals, Michy will be another valuable addition to the two new signings we have made this summer. It’s another boost for the players and fans alike, and I’m sure everyone will join me in saying welcome back Michy."

Batshuayi, who reclaims the Palace number 23 shirt, said: "I feel like I’m home now, so it’s good. But I need to do a good season here, to work a lot with my teammates and I want to do my best here.

"It’s not my first time here. I know the teammates, I know the gaffer, I know how the club works here. For me, it’s the best decision.

"I'm happy, the coach is happy, my teammates are happy. Let's get to work."[/article]

Kamil Jóźwiak - Derby (undisclosed fee)

[article]
Derby County have today strengthened their attacking options with the signing of Poland international wideman Kamil Jozwiak, subject to EFL and international clearance.

The 22-year-old winger has joined Derby from Polish top-flight side Lech Poznan for an undisclosed fee.

Jozwiak has signed a four-year contract with the Rams which will run until the summer of 2024, which will see him link up with his international team-mate Krystian Bielik in Derby’s squad.

Jozwiak is a product of Lech Poznan’s youth system and he made his professional debut for the club in February 2016 at the age of 17.

He returned to his parent club and went on to record more than 100 appearances across all competitions and established himself as a key player during the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

Marash Kumbulla - Roma (loan for €5m + Mert Cetin, Matteo Cancellieri and Aboudramane Diaby on loan, with obligation to buy at €18m + add-ons)

[article]AS Roma are delighted to announce the signing of defender Marash Kumbulla.

Kumbulla, 20, joins the club from Hellas Verona on an initial two-year loan deal that runs until 30 June 2022.

As part of the negotiations, two-year loan arrangements for players Mert Cetin, Matteo Cancellieri and Aboudramane Diaby to go in the opposite direction and join Verona have also been agreed.

When the costs of all loans are weighed against each other, the net cost to Roma is €2 million.

The overall transaction also includes various obligations, based on the meeting of certain targets, to make all four transfers permanent.

Assuming the four deals are all completed, the net cost to the Giallorossi will be €13.5m.

The deal for Kumbulla also includes a number of specific performance-related bonuses, based on the achievements of both the player and the club, that are worth up to a maximum of €3.5m.

Should the conditions be met to make the transfer permanent, Kumbulla has agreed a contract with the club that runs until 30 June 2025.

“Roma represents an opportunity, and a challenge, impossible to turn down,” said Kumbulla.

“I was convinced by the plan the club has in place and I had no hesitations about making this choice - I will do everything to ensure I don’t disappoint those who have shown their belief in me.”

A product of the Hellas Verona academy setup, Kumbulla made his debut for the club in August 2018.

Last season, as Verona returned to Serie A, he played 25 times in the league to help Ivan Juric’s side to an impressive top-half finish.

Born in Peschiera del Garda, near Verona, Kumbulla opted to represent the country of his parents at international level.

Having represented Albania at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, he made his senior debut for his country last year.

“Marash was one of our top targets and we are delighted to have signed him,” said club CEO Guido Fienga.

“With him, we are bringing to Roma a young talent who stood out last season – and a player who possesses all the attributes to form, alongside others, a key part of the group we are building for the future.”

Kumbulla may yet make his debut for the Giallorossi against his old club – Roma travel to face Hellas Verona in the first game of the 2020-21 Serie A season on Saturday.

He will wear the No. 24 shirt.[/article]

Ki-Jana Hoever - Wolves (£9m plus add ons up to £4.5m & 15% sell-on clause)

[article]
Wolves have signed exciting young defender Ki-Jana Hoever on a five-year deal from Liverpool.

The 18-year-old Dutchman was highly thought of during his two years at Anfield and now provides Nuno Espirito Santo with another option in central defence and at right-wing-back.

Having learnt his trade in his home nation with AZ and Ajax, Hoever joined the current Premier League champions in 2018 and made two first-team appearances in red.

Jurgen Klopp handed the then 16-year-old his debut at Molineux, in Wolves’ Emirates FA Cup victory over the Merseyside club back in January 2019.

A full debut followed this time last year, as Hoever marked his first start with a goal as Liverpool beat MK Dons 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

That towering header at Stadium MK made the Dutchman Liverpool’s fourth youngster ever goalscorer, behind Ben Woodburn, Michael Owen and Jordan Rossiter.

On the capture, Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi said: “Ki is a young player who can play both centre-back and right-back, with high potential to become a top footballer.

“He played against Wolves in the FA cup game in 2019 when he was only 16 years old, and impressed us very much.

“Ki is a talent we have bought for the long-term future, but he can also give the first team a fresh and potent option immediately. Welcome to the pack, Ki.”

At international level, Hoever has represented Holland at four separate age groups, up to under-18s, who he currently earns selection for.

A winner of the European Under-17 Championship with Holland, Hoever also impressed at the Under-17 World Cup in Brazil last autumn, where his nation finished fourth.

Quick across the ground, strong in the air and comfortable in possession, Hoever’s quality and versatility will prove invaluable inside Nuno’s squad.

Now, the youngster comes into the Wolves group and will be eligible to make his debut at the London Stadium against West Ham United next Sunday.

Cengiz Ünder - Leicester (loan for €3m with option to buy at €24m)

[article]Leicester City Football Club have agreed terms with A.S. Roma for the loan of Turkish international Cengiz Ünder until the end of the season, subject to Premier League and international clearance.

The 23-year-old has spent the last three seasons in Serie A and will now join up with his new team-mates ahead of this weekend’s game against Burnley at King Power Stadium.

An international teammate of City defender Çağlar Söyüncü, the winger has 21 caps to his name, and made his senior debut for his country aged 19.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Cengiz said: “I can’t wait to go to Leicester and start training. I’ve always wanted to play in England and this is a great opportunity to play in the Premier League.

“I will try to help my team-mates on the pitch and off the pitch and I believe that I can improve my performance every day. I think I am fast and can create lots of chances for my colleagues.

“I feel very good because my best friend plays for Leicester City. I am very happy to be able to play with Çağlar [Söyüncü] and I always watched Leicester’s games because of him.”

He joined Italian side A.S. Roma from İstanbul Başakşehir in the summer of 2017, and became the youngest Turkish player to score in the UEFA Champions League when he made his debut in the competition against Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2018.

Born in Sındırgı, Ünder, alongside Söyüncü, is a product of the Altinordu youth system and progressed to their First Team before securing a move to İstanbul Başakşehir ahead of the 2016/17 Süper Lig campaign.

After starring for Başakşehir and establishing himself as one of his country’s most exciting talents, Ünder moved to the Italian capital and joined A.S. Roma, making his bow against Inter Milan in August 2017.

He netted seven times in 26 Serie A games in his first season at Stadio Olimpico before scoring a further eight goals in all competitions the following year, including three strikes in the UEFA Champions League.

Last season, the Turkish wideman found the net on three occasions in 18 league games as Paulo Fonseca’s side finished in fifth place.

Internationally, Ünder has won 21 caps and scored six goals, with his debut coming against Kosovo in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in December 2016. More recently, he helped his country to qualify for UEFA Euro 2020, due to take place next year.[/article]

Arturo Vidal - Inter Milan (€1m)

[article]Arturo Vidal is officially an Inter player. The Chilean midfielder has joined Inter on a permanent deal from FC Barcelona.

A few steps, often taken barefoot. Little Arturo would leave his home in Calle Aníbal with his sister to head to the "cancha", a small pocket of land that was the only real attraction in the El Huasco neighbourhood, in the municipality of San Joaquin, in the City of Santiago, Chile. He would then ask her to go in goal and start to take a few shots, looking to train up his right foot. These were moments of carefree happiness for Arturo, who soon earned the nickname "Cometierra" in his neighbourhood; he played football day and night and came home up to his hair in dirt. There is an inseparable bond between Vidal and El Huasco. A place where growing up isn’t easy, where money was always a problem, where his footballing career began on a muddy pitch, with its boundaries marked by the tyres of wheels cut in half. It was a place where young Arturo had to endure many difficult days.

There’s one name that keeps recurring when we look back at Arturo’s youth. Born on 22 May 1987 (a date which holds great significance in Nerazzurri history for a number of reasons), there is one name which keeps coming up throughout his youth: Rodelindo Román, the man that, with his litter collection company, gave work and food to many people in San Joaquin, including Arturo’s father and grandfather. He was an almost mythical figure, so much so that the team in El Huasco was renamed in his honour.

It was with that team, Club de Deportes Rodelindo Román, that Arturo Vidal’s footballing journey began. Football was the flame of inspiration, while his mother Jacquie acted as his undisputed guiding light throughout his life. Recently, in an interview about his footballing career, Vidal was asked: “Who was your idol when you were little?” His response: “My mother.” An idol, someone he could rely on. It was a difficult time for Arturo and his brothers: they would often come home to find that there was no meal on the table. Running around in the mud, and taking shots against the neighbours’ house, Arturo began to develop the armour of a warrior, promising: “I will become a footballer.”

Vidal tried out for Colo-Colo at the age of twelve, making the journey on his bicycle. However, the long ride ultimately proved fruitless, with Arturo returning to play for El Huasco, always playing well above his age group; at eleven, he was already playing with 15-year-olds. Three years later, after another try-out, he was finally accepted by Colo-Colo and showed plenty of discipline on the pitch. He started out as a defender, with bags of energy and a powerful right foot. His mother gave everything she could to allow her son to continue to cultivate his dream; she looked to sell things on the street and dedicated all her energy to him. When the phone rang in 2005, Arturo was playing draughts with his uncle; it was Dabrowski, Colo-Colo’s Coach, asking Arturo to join his first-team squad. He dashed off to get his things ready, even if his football boots were by no means new or cutting edge. With his first earnings, he took his mother to the shopping centre, a real luxury in a place of such hardship.

Arturo made a slow start, but his first two appearances coincided with the last two matchdays of the championship, when Colo-Colo sealed their position as Champion of Chile. A title that they would retain in the next two seasons. Vidal grew as a player under Coach Claudio Borghi. Alexis Sanchez was also on the books at the Club, meaning they are now reunited at Inter. Arturo’s transformation not only took place on the pitch, but also in his appearance. Moreover, he earned himself a new nickname. For some time, he was known as Celia Cruz, after the Cuban singer. One day, though, he turned up to the dressing room with a new, distinctive look, sporting a mohawk. From that day onwards, he became known as “Celia Punk”.

However, on the inside, he’s always been the same person. There was only one option if he wanted to be successful in life: football. It really was all or nothing, which is why his spirit on the pitch was always that of a “Guerrero”, a warrior: a name we’ve put in quotation marks for a reason, for it was the nickname his mother gave him.

Bayer Leverkusen scouted the young Chilean in 2007, and the Sporting Director of the German club was keen to snap him up. Rudi Völler, who had travelled out to Chile to watch Humberto Suazo, saw Vidal play and decided to bring him over to Europe. Thus began a new life began for Arturo, thousands of kilometres from El Huesco, but he always remained in touch with his roots, and to the pitch he had played on as a child: his home turf. A fighter on the pitch, the place where he felt most at home, carried through by his desire to win.

Things didn’t quite work out with Bayer Leverkusen, but his four years in the Bundesliga proved to be a formative experience for him; he finished his stint in Germany in style with 13 goals in his final season, becoming a true leader in the team. His subsequent spell at Juventus under Antonio Conte was a key period of his career; it was at Juve that he became the complete midfielder and a winner. He also began to get on the scoresheet more and more, scoring seven in his first season with the Bianconeri, 15 in the second, 18 in the third, and eight more in his final year at the Club.

His time at Juventus was followed by spells with Bayern Munich and Barcelona. He became a habitual champion, winning eight consecutive titles in three different leagues. And that wasn’t all; with Chile, he won two Copa America titles, two triumphs that filled his nation with joy. Thus, he has become one of the key figures in a National Team that is well and truly in touch with the people of Chile.

This is Arturo Vidal, now the President of Rodelindo Román, a team that he helped get back on its feet, not only investing in the club, but also supporting a number of projects in El Huasco. His heart beats for his home city, but it also beats for the beautiful game, whenever he’s on the pitch, and wherever the ball is rolling. The pitch is where Arturo puts on the mask of a warrior, thinking of his mother Jacquie, and when he was hungry, and when he came home with mud on his face.

From today, Vidal will be on the front line for the Nerazzurri, with the same objectives as ever: fighting, giving it his all, and winning. He will become the sixth Chilean to play for Inter. The first was Ivan Zamorano, another born fighter. He was followed by David Pizarro, Luis Jimenez, Gary Medel and Alexis Sanchez.

It’s confirmed. He’s arrived in Milan, and he’s a Nerazzurri player. Welcome to Inter, Arturo![/article]

Interesting to see how he does in a tougher league.

Jordan Ibe - Derby (free transfer)

[article]Derby County have added another attacking option to their squad by completing the signing of winger Jordon Ibe.

The 24-year-old has joined Derby on a two-year contract as a free agent after leaving AFC Bournemouth in the summer.

Ibe is no stranger to Rams supporters after he impressed during a 24-game loan spell from Premier League giants Liverpool during the 2014/15 campaign.

The former England Under-21 international excited supporters with his direct play and trickery from out wide over the course of his five-month stay at Pride Park Stadium.

He scored five goals during his loan spell and his impressive displays resulted in him being recalled to Anfield by then Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

Ibe has almost 200 career appearances to his name, the vast majority of which have been at the highest level of English football, and will be looking to carry on where he left off in Derby colours.

The wideman will now work with Derby’s strength and conditioning staff to build up his sharpness and match fitness, having not made a competitive first-team appearance since September 2019.

Reacting to Ibe’s signing, manager Phillip Cocu said: “Jordon is a player with a lot of potential and undoubted ability.

“He has performed for several years in the Premier League and at 24 years of age he still has many years ahead of him in his career.

“We have been keen to strengthen our attacking options out wide for some time, while we believe Derby County is the right place for Jordon at this stage of his career.”

Ibe progressed through the youth system at Wycombe Wanderers and made his debut for the Chairboys at the age of just 15 in August 2011.

He made 14 first-team appearances and his qualities attracted the interest of several Premier League sides, with Liverpool winning the race to secure his services in December 2011.

After impressing in the youth sides at Anfield, he made his first team bow by being named in the starting line-up against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2012/13 season.

He made two further appearances for the Reds in the 2013/14 campaign, before joining Birmingham City on loan for the rest of the season in February 2014. He made 11 Championship appearances and scored once during his time with the Blues.

Ibe then joined Derby on loan for the entire 2014/15 campaign, but his form was so impressive that he was recalled by Liverpool in January 2015.

He became a regular for the next 18 months at Anfield and made 55 appearances in total, taking his total for the Reds up to 58, before moving onto AFC Bournemouth in the summer of 2016.

The Cherries paid a club-record £15 million for Ibe and he went on to make 92 appearances across four seasons, scoring on five occasions, prior to his contract expiring at the end of the 2019/20 season.

On the international stage, Ibe has represented England at Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level. He qualifies to play for Nigeria as well as England, but confirmed his allegiance to the Three Lions in September 2015.[/article]

Nelson Semedo - Wolves (€30m plus add ons up to €10m)

[article]Wolves have completed the signing of Portugal international Nelson Semedo from FC Barcelona.

The right wing-back has penned a deal that will keep him at Molineux until June 2023, with an option to extend it to June 2025.

The 26-year-old arrives with ten major honours to his name and three seasons at the Nou Camp, where he’s impressed in La Liga and the Champions League.

Semedo, who has played 13 times for his country alongside a number of his new Wolves teammates, now becomes an immediate option to Nuno Espirito Santo on the right-hand side.

On the acquisition, Jeff Shi said: “‘Progressive at heart’ is one of our core values at Wolves. For a member of staff, for a player, for the whole club, we are all making great efforts to progress continuously.

“It’s isn’t often that we have the opportunity to sign a world-class player from a world-class club. Nelson’s signing shows we will never stop progressing and we are still hungry and humble in our heart.”

Having started his journey with Sintrense in the Portuguese third tier, Semedo’s big break came in 2012 when Benfica acquired his services and began developing an attacking, exciting full-back.

Having won two Portuguese league titles and three national cups, Semedo lured in Spanish giants Barcelona in 2017 and he repaid their faith during 124 appearances.

The youngster truly burst on the scene during 2017 when he was named in the Champions League Breakthrough XI for his “pace, power and eye for a killer pass” by UEFA.

Two La Liga titles followed in the famous red and blue shirt, as did Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana honours.

Last term, Semedo played 42 times for Barcelona, providing six assists and scoring on the last day of the season against Alaves back in July.

Meanwhile, Semedo’s 13 Portugal caps saw him named a 2019 Nations League winner alongside Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

He’ll now link up with the trio in his new surroundings at Molineux and could make his debut in the Premier League against West Ham United on Sunday.[/article]
