A statement released by the club of their official website read: "Shakhtar Donetsk signed a five-year deal with Bernard.
"The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder, who previously played for Atletico Mineiro, is 25million euros (£21.5m)."
Bernard will be a direct replacement for the recently departed left winger Willian – who joined Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in January.
He will link-up with fellow Brazilians Douglas Costa, Luiz Adriano and Fred, with the lack of foreign player restrictions meaning the club can tap into a wealth of South American talent.
Bernard scored 22 goals in 100 appearances during his three-year spell with Mineiro, and he has already made five international appearances, having made his debut in November 2012.
He helped the Brazilian club overturn a two-goal deficit in the final of the Copa Libertadores to win the two-legged tie against Olympia to win on penalties, and both north London clubs will have been disappointed to have missed out on the hot prospect.
PSV technical director Marcel Brands has confirmed that Ji-Sung Park returns to the Philips Stadion. The 32-year-old rejoins PSV on a season-long deal from Queens Park Rangers. Park has passed a medical in Eindhoven and will train with his new PSV team mates for the first time on Thursday morning. The deal will see Park move back to the club he represented between 2003 and 2005.
Park joins PSV on loan from QPR, who were relegated from the Premier League last season. After three seasons with PSV, the South Korean was signed by Manchester United, where he spent seven seasons. He has an impressive CV: he won the title in England three times and the League Cup twice. With Manchester United, he also won the 2008 Champions League final and the FIFA Club World Cup in the same year. With PSV, he won the Eredivisie title in 2003 and 2005, lifted the Dutch Super Cup in 2003 and the KNVB Beker in 2005 and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2005.
Real Betis have announced the capture of midfielder Xavi Torres from Getafe on a four-year contract.
Betis boss Pepe Mel has been searching for a playmaker for some time, although Torres’ name was not one that appeared on a long list of candidates for the position.
However, club President Miguel Guillen claimed this week that a signing was imminent and he has been true to his word with the acquisition of the former Barcelona, Malaga and Levante player [pictured, left].
The 26-year-old, who came through the youth system with Villarreal but never played a first team game, has appeared in 117 top-flight games and scored six goals.
Last term he featured in 37 League and Cup games for Getafe, almost all of them in the starting line-up.
Helder Postiga has completed his €3m move from Real Zaragoza to Valencia, the club have confirmed.
Los Che revealed on their website this afternoon that the Portugal international had successfully completed his medical, and signed a two-year deal at Mestalla.
The two teams have agreed a €3m figure for the striker, with Miroslav Djukic’s men paying €375,000 if he scores 15 goals next term.
Postiga will be unveiled at Valencia’s game against Olympiacos on Saturday.
Mons have announced via their official website the sale of striker Aloys Nong to Levante
The player is due to travel to Valencia on Friday to undergo a medical and, if successful, will return to the Belgian club to terminate his contract and join Los Granotes.
It is understood that Nong will pen a three-year deal at the Ciutat de Valencia and, while neither club has released details of the size of transfer fee involved, is believed to have cost under €500,000.
The Cameroon hitman will link up with Levante at the express wish of Coach Joaquin Caparros, who now appears to have finalised his squad for the forthcoming campaign unless a high-quality winger becomes available before the close of the transfer window.
Nong, 29, scored 8 goals in 28 League games last term after arriving on a free transfer from Standard Liege, having previously played for Mechelen, Kortrijk, FC Molenbeek, Royal Liege and Vise.
That's ridiculous. Did he start playing top level football when he was 9??It feels like Postiga has been around forever. Can't believe he's only 31.
Lisandro Lopez leaves Lyon for... Al-Gharafa in Qatar.
Yep.
Roma boss Rudi Garcia has explained why he wanted the club to sign Gervinho from Premiership giants Arsenal.
The Ivory Coast international is now in the Italian capital after a deal was agreed between the two parties for the forward.
“I’m happy with his signing, as I was happy with the captures of Morgan De Sanctis and Kevin Strootman,” the Frenchman noted.
“Gervinho is a quick player, he’s good at going deep and he has different characteristics to other players.”
Garcia knows the 26-year-old well given that he bossed him with success while in charge of Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
“Gervinho had been dreaming of Serie A for at least three years,” revealed the new Roma hitman’s agent.
The Ivory Coast international completed his move from Arsenal this week for €8m plus performance-related bonuses.
“Gervinho had been dreaming of Serie A for at least three years,” insisted agent Pascal Boisseau on Calciomercato.com.
“In the summer of 2010, then-Roma director general Daniele Pradè wanted him in the Capital, while the club also made a proposal last year.”
Gervinho left Lille to join Arsenal for €12m in July 2011, but is now reunited with his old Coach Rudi Garcia.
He never quite settled in London, scoring 11 goals in 63 games in all competition for Arsenal.
“His technical characteristics are unique and because of that much appreciated by several Italian directors,” continued the agent.
“He has a culture of hard work and physicality that I think will make it easy for him to settle into Serie A.
“Garcia very strongly wanted him. He spoke directly to the player and when I met with the Roma directors it didn’t take long to understand this was his big opportunity.”
Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international winger James McClean from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
The paperwork on the three year deal was completed this morning after the player completed a medical at the club yesterday and McClean can now officially be confirmed as being a Wigan Athletic player.
The club have again moved quickly in the transfer market and won the race for the highly talented, and in-demand, attacking midfielder who has been coveted by a number of Championship and Premier League clubs.
McClean becomes Owen Coyle’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window, as the Wigan Athletic Manager continues to strengthen his squad, and will wear the number 11 shirt for the season.
After completing his move, McClean said:
"I'm delighted it's all been completed and I can say I'm a Wigan Athletic player. This is a fantastic club and after speaking with the Manager I can't wait to meet the rest of the team, start training and hopefully make my debut very soon with the aim of helping us get back to the Premier League."
McClean arrives at the DW Stadium two years after first signing for the Black Cats from hometown club Derry City, with whom he made 78 appearances.
Whilst at the Stadium of Light he made 59 league appearances and scored seven goals, the first of which came at Latics’ home in a 4-1 victory for Martin O’Neill’s men in January 2012, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award at the end of that season.
At international level, McClean represented Northern Ireland at Under 21 level before going on to play for the Republic of Ireland senior team, making his debut in February 2012 against the Czech Republic at the Aviva Stadium, and earning twelve caps in total. He is in Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad to face Wales in Cardiff next week together with James McCarthy.
For club and country, he made 51 appearances in all competitions last term and scored five goals.
BORO today completed the signing of winger Albert Adomah from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian international joins on a three-year contract after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. He trained with his new team-mates for the first time this morning and will be in the squad for Saturday's Sky Bet Championship match at Charlton Athletic.
Boro Chief Executive Neil Bausor said: "We're absolutely delighted to have completed the signing of such a talented player who we believe can really excite our fans.
"Albert is a Ghanaian international who has hopes of representing his country at next summer's World Cup finals.
"We hope playing for Middlesbrough can help him achieve that ambition and at the same time he can be an important player for us and help us achieve our ambitions as a club."
Boro boss Tony Mowbray said he has been interested in signing Adomah for a couple of years.
"Albert is a creative wide player who can go up and down the right wing and cause teams problems with his speed and his trickery. He can create chances and he can also drop his shoulder and smash it in the net.
"He'll be a welcome addition for us. We're looking to strengthen other positions as well and we also need a player who can stick it in the net.
"He can add a little bit of excitement, thrust and forward speed to our team. Let's hope he can have a decent time with us."
London-born Adomah started his career with Isthmian Premier side Harrow Borough before joining League Two side Barnet, where he scored 19 goals in 112 appearances.
He moved to Bristol City in July 2010, with the initial fee of £150,000 being set by a tribunal, and his exciting style of play quickly made him a fans' favourite at Ashton Gate.
Adomah was named player of the year in 2010-11 and went on to make 131 appearances for the Robins, scoring 17 goals.
He has made nine appearances for Ghana, playing in this year's African Cup of Nations.
Adomah scored in both games as Bristol City recorded a double against Boro last season, a 3-1 win at the Riverside and a 2-0 victory at Ashton Gate.
Dutch international midfielder Orlando Engelaar will play for Melbourne Heart in this season's Australian A-League, the club said on Friday.
Engelaar, 33, who has played 14 times for the Netherlands national team, represented the Dutch at the 2008 UEFA EURO and comes to Australia after club spells with FC Twente, FC Schalke 04 and PSV Eindhoven.
"I am confident that Orlando will be one of the most accomplished midfielders that has come to play football in Australia," Heart coach John Aloisi said.
"The club has worked hard for a number of seasons to attract a player who can dominate and control matches from midfield and we believe that we have found that player."
Engelaar will join another new signing, Australian international Harry Kewell, at Heart in the new A-League season, kicking off in October.
Vitesse Arnhem have announced the signing of Chelsea midfielder Cristian Cuevas on a one-year loan deal.
The 18-year-old will join up with the Eredivisie club once he has been granted a work permit by Dutch authorities.
Chelsea signed Cuevas last month from Rancagua in his native Chile, and he has immediately been loaned out for the season in order for him to gain experience of first-team football.
Cuevas was a member of Chile's side at the recent U20 World Cup in Turkey, helping them reach the quarter-final stage.
A statement on Vitesse's website read: "Cuevas is known as a great talent.
"The left-footed player can operate anywhere along the left side."
Getafe defender Miguel Torres has had his contract with the club rescinded and joined former boss Michel at Olympiacos.
The 27-year-old right-back played under Michel when he was in charge at Real Madrid Castilla and will now link up with him again in Greece, where he has penned a three-year contract.
The former Spain Under-21 international came through the ranks with Madrid and made the step up to the first team in 2006, going on to make 53 La Liga appearances before moving across the Spanish capital to Getafe three years later for a reported fee of €2m.
However, after four years at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, Torres has opted to try his luck in Greece and it is understood he has already passed the obligatory medical in Athens.
Miguel Torres quotes in details: ”Since my years in Spain, I knew Olympiacos as a very important club both in Greece an in Europe; however, from the moment I arrived here, I came to realise that this is club far more important than I originally thought non just in terms of facilities or what it represents for the city, but also of successful campaigns throughout these years, titles won and -as explained to me since I stepped in here, because this club is a “Legend” and we must keep on fighting for this legend; thus, players coming to play here will carry on enjoying football for the side, and, for my part, I will do everything I can to help keep this legend rising.
I am in a great mood to start working with the team, I am looking forward to enjoying the matches in all tournaments and, apparently, to winning them offering joy to our fans.
I honestly believe that this is a very good club, great players have come to join forces and in conjunction with last year’s title-holding roster, I hope to be able to give all I got to this club and excel, which is also my dream from the moment I set foot here”.
Rayo Vallecano have announced via their official website the signing of Real Valladolid striker Alberto Bueno on a two-year deal.
Madrid-born Bueno, 25, is a product of Real Madrid’s youth system and made his full Primera debut against Recreativo de Huelva in November 2008, going on to play a total of five games for Los Blancos.
In 2009 he was transferred to Valladolid, where he featured in 20 games in his debut season before being loaned to Derby County, with whom he scored five goals in 29 matches.
In summer 2011 Bueno returned to Valladolid and became a key part of the squad that achieved promotion to the top flight, and last term notched five goals in 33 League appearances.
Bueno, who can also play on the wing, arrives at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas to reinforce Pepe Mel’s attacking options and will compete for a place with Joaquin Larrivey, Nery Castillo and Lass Bangoura.
He becomes Rayo’s seventh acquisition of the summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper Ruben Martinez, defenders Johan Mojica and Leonel Galeano, midfielders Raul Baena and Raul Niguez, and forwards Castillo and Larrivey.
Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of Jay Spearing from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
The tenacious midfielder spent last season on loan at the club and Dougie Freedman has now swooped to make the deal permanent.
He has signed a four-year contract with the club.
Spearing, 24, progressed through the youth ranks at Liverpool where notable achievements included back-to-back FA Youth Cup successes, appearing in a 4-0 triumph over Real Madrid in a Champions League game at Anfield and an FA Cup final start against Chelsea at Wembley.
Spearing has also had a brief loan spell with Leicester City in the 2009/10 season, helping the club to the Championship play-off semi-finals.
Dougie Freedman said: “Jay wanted to come here and wanted to play for the Bolton Wanderers jersey. He brings qualities to the football club both on and off the field.
“He turned down a few other clubs to come here and he knows and likes the style of our management team.
“We really have to thank the board and owners on this one. The support we’ve had has been great in helping us to acquire such a fantastic young player.”
Jay will wear shirt number six.
Chelsea Football Club can confirm Lucas Piazon has today joined Vitesse Arnhem on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old played three times for our first team last year, impressing in outings against Wolves, Manchester United and Aston Villa.
He joined Spanish side Malaga on loan for the second half of the campaign, where he featured 13 times in total, including twice in the Champions League as Manuel Pellegrini's side reached the quarter-finals.
The Brazilian signed for Chelsea in 2011 and has featured regularly for the Under-21s while also figuring prominently in our FA Youth Cup success in 2012 and earning our Young Player of the Year award that summer.
In joining Vitesse in the Eredivisie, Piazon links up with fellow Chelsea youngsters Patrick van Aanholt and Gael Kakuta, and will be hoping to emulate last season's fourth-placed finish in a side which also featured Tomas Kalas, who will this season be part of our first team setup.
STOKE CITY are delighted to confirm that United States international Juan Agudelo has today signed a pre-contract agreement with the Club.
The 20 year old striker will join the Potters on January 1, 2014 once his contract with New England Revolution has expired.
He will become the latest US international to move to the Britannia Stadium, following in the footsteps of his compatriots Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu and Brek Shea.
Manager Mark Hughes said: "We've put a lot of work into this deal, and I am delighted that we have managed to get the deal over the line.
"It’s a good deal for us, because he is a very good young player who boasts a lot of talent as well as a lot of potential too.
"I've known of him for a couple of years now. He burst on to the scene for the United States at the age of 17 and everybody has paid attention to him since.
"I have kept my eye on him for the last 18 months, and thankfully we were in a position where we were able to pull this deal off."
Chief Executive Tony Scholes believes the Club’s capture of Agudelo underlines the growing stature of Major League Soccer in the US.
He said: "We've played against five MLS teams in the last two years and have been consistently impressed with the quality we've come up against.
"We've already taken two players directly from the MLS in Geoff and Brek. Geoff readily adapted to life in the Premier League by making 35 league appearances for us in his first season at the Britannia Stadium.
"Brek and Maurice will be looking to do likewise this season and we’re confident that Juan will be able to follow suit."
Nottingham Forest have completed a deal to bring Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson back to The City Ground for an undisclosed fee.
The 27 year old has secured a return to his hometown club by putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.
Wilson departed for the Scottish champions in the summer of 2011 and picked up two SPL titles and a Scottish Cup winners’ medal in a successful spell over the border.
He also put in two exemplary performances against Barcelona in the group stages of last season’s Champions League, playing a big part in The Bhoys’ famous victory over the Spanish giants at Celtic Park as Neil Lennon’s men progressed to the knockout stages of the competition.
Wilson played all 90 minutes of Celtic’s Uefa Cup third round qualifying win over Elfsborg last night but, now back at The City Ground, his focus has switched to helping The Reds achieve their ambitions this season.
Wilson said: “It’s nice to be back. I’m delighted to get it all sorted and I can’t wait to get started to be honest.
“I wouldn’t have left Celtic for just anyone, it had to be the right club. And no club fitted the bill better than Nottingham Forest.
“I’ve been at Notts County, Preston and Celtic but looking back and trying to pick a spell I enjoyed the most, even though I played in the Champions League with Celtic, I would have to say it was here.”
Whether Wilson will be in Billy Davies’ squad for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure - he can’t wait to get back on his old stomping ground.
He admitted: “Out of everything, I have probably missed the fans the most. I love playing at The City Ground.
“I know people talk about Barcelona, this game and that game, but I just love matchdays at The City Ground.”
Leicester City have made their second signing of the summer, after securing the services of Arsenal’s highly rated 20-year-old central defender Ignasi Miquel on a season-long loan deal.
The Barcelona-born youngster has made 14 senior appearances for the Gunners and will bolster City manager Nigel Pearson’s defensive options ahead of Sunday’s King Power Stadium clash with Leeds United. He will be available for selection subject to his registration being cleared by the Football League and the Football Association.
At 6ft 4ins, Miquel is an imposing figure in defence, but as well as his physical presence and qualities in the air, the youngster is known for his ability to bring the ball out from the back.
City boss Nigel Pearson said: "Ignasi is a centre-back with lots of potential and he will give us another option in defence. He's very enthusiastic and delighted to be here, which is a big part of taking players on loan for us.
"We'll see how he is with regard to availability and whether he will be part of the squad for Sunday's game against Leeds."
After making his professional debut in February 2011 against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup, Miquel’s development continued under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger - his Premier League and Champions League bows coming later that same year against Liverpool and Olympiakos respectively.
Last season the defender featured three times for Wenger’s men, including the memorable 7-5 win at Reading in the Capital One Cup, and scored his first senior goal in a 6-1 win over Coventry in the previous round.
A Spanish Under-21 international and member of Barcelona’s famed academy system at a young age, Miquel arrives at King Power Stadium with an impressive pedigree, having featured heavily for the Gunners this pre-season.
The technically gifted central defender, who is capable of playing at left-back if required, will be hoping to make the squad for Sunday’s visit of Leeds and experience his first taste of Sky Bet Championship football.
Iggy spoke exclusively to Foxes Player after his move, saying: “Once I knew Leicester were interested, I just wanted to come here. Everything I knew about the Club was good, so the manager didn’t have to say anything to me to convince me to come, I was already focused on coming to Leicester myself.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a pleasure to come to this Club because I think we’re going to get a big chance [of promotion] so I’m really happy.
“I already know that there is a great side here and we will be up there this season. I know it’s going to be tough to get games because it’s a very competitive squad, but I came here for that. I’m part of the team now and I’m looking forward to playing as much as I can.”
This season will be a first taste of Championship football for the 6ft 4ins defender, who spent time with Barcelona’s famed academy as a youngster, but it’s a challenge he is relishing.
He added: “It’s going to be tough. I know I’m going to have to fight a lot and grow as a player. But I’m here for this and it’s another chance for me in my career. I’m very happy and excited for it.
“I’m going to enjoy it (Championship football) and I’m going to have to learn about it. It’ll be a different experience to the one I had with Arsenal, but I think I’m going to improve here.
“I can play anywhere that the manager asks me to play, but my preferred positions are centre back and left back. I like to play football, and given the chance I like to play out from the back.
“Pre-season has been tough at Arsenal, so now I just can’t wait to play my first game at Leicester City.
“I need to work now as hard as I can to get into the squad and get into the team.”
Rolando Jorge Pires da Fonseca, better known simply as Rolando, has signed for Inter on loan from Porto.
Born in Cape Verde, the 27-year-old is a naturalised Portuguese citizen. Since beginning his career at Belenenses, he has acquired a wealth of experience at Porto (2008-2013), Napoli (2013) and Portugal (U21 and senior teams), and will now further strengthen Walter Mazzarri's defensive options.
The central-half is due to start training with the Nerazzurri when they return from their US tour.
On behalf of everyone at the club and all our fans, welcome aboard Rolando!
Spartak Moscow have agreed a deal to sign Paraguayan striker Lucas Barrios from Guangzhou Evergrande for a fee of €7m (£6m).
The 28-year-old's switch will be completed upon agreeing personal terms and passing a medical with the Russian outfit, with Guangzhou confirming via their official website that the transfer fee "satisfied the club."
Barrios moved to China in May 2012 after winning the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund but struggled to hold down a regular place with the run-away Chinese Super League leaders, despite a decent return of 13 goals in 32 appearances.
The striker had claimed in an interview with German magazine Kicker earlier this year that he had not been paid on time by Guangzhou and that he was looking to cancel his contract in order to return to Germany.
This prompted the Chinese outfit to bring a complaint to Fifa, in which they demanded €25m (£21.4m) in compensation and a six-month ban for the striker for a breach of contract.
However, the transfer to Spartak now looks set to bring the dispute to a close, with Guangzhou confirming they would "withdraw charges once the transfer procedure is done" in a statement.
Barrios had been linked with a move back to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen but Spartak moved quickly to secure his services following the €13m (£11.1m) sale of Emmanuel Emenike to Fenerbahce.
