Just been watching him on FF.

Seriously impressive individual, who has a charisma that comes off the screen

He's played for some massive clubs, and by recollection I think he's one of the most decorated players of all time.

I must have watched him play live or on telly plenty of times, but if you asked me about him, all I could say would be 'black' and 'midfield'

So, experts, what type of player is he? Is he worthy of all the trophies? I know next to nothing about him as a player

I know you're on your phone so you will not be able to watch this, but I believe this is what most English fans know him for:

clarence seedorf goal with real madrid

That screaming hit from 55 yards right into the top corner for Real Madrid. He could hit the ball like no other really, which always made him dangerous. Apart from that he's just a very complete player who is fiercely competitive, strong tackler and very able passer of the ball. Scored around one in six, too, which is quite impressive considering he can sit very deep.

I read somewhere that when he went to AC Milan they actually told him to sit out some of the training, because he had so little body fat that he would actually have ended up losing too much and getting musclebound if he'd bulked up even more.

He's an impressive interviewee too BTW. Speaks better English than most of us probably.

Definitely. I saw a long interview with him about 6 months ago where he discussed all aspects of football and he came across well. I think he'll be in the game for a long time after he hangs up his boots.

I saw him take his top off after Athens and I've never seen a footballer in better shape. Certainly not one well into his 30's.

Absolutely class player, who has adapted his play and now plays deeper than he used to. I think I saw Rooney rated him as the best player he's ever played against.

He is top drawer no doubt and all those medals aren't fluke.

I've only really watched him since he moved to Milan - and he's just a very gifted player. Intelligent on the ball, great passing ability, good shot and always looking for the ball. He must be pushing 35 now, and when he plays, he still looks like he belongs.

it's a cliche but he does the simple things outstandingly well, positioning, timing, passing, work rate. He is a kind of amazing lubricant who keeps the team in shape and ticking away - you would notice him more when he wasn't there. I would say he is a kind of jamie redknapp player (at his pak for liverpool and briefly for england) but a thousand times better - does that make sense? Him and Davids should have won Holland the world cup.

Very, very good player - and came with an attitude to match.... also alledgedly liked goosing fellow players wives- leading to issues with the gap toothed Brazillian.

...which of course is spectacularly hypocritical on the part of the latter, but since when has that ever worried footballers?

I once saw this guy ask Seedorf for his autogragh during Euro 96, mistakenly calling him Edgar Davids!....when he told him he wasn't, this lad cringingly replied, "Oh sorry...you're the other one".....
Thankfully, Mr Seedorf was a gent and cheerfully replied "Yes, actually theres a few of us!..Winstan Bogarde...Michael Reiziger...

Class act, on and off the pitch.

Good one. Reminds me of a story about Digger shortly after he joined us. Apparently he was sitting around with some of the other players when the tea lady came by and offered everyone a cuppa except Digger, who said: "What's the matter, am I black or something?"

Welcome to the site BTW.

Thanks for the welcome JJ.

Oh back to the topic of the thread...Seedorf always struck me as an excellent continuity player. Consistant, kept it simple, good footballing brain. Not particullarly outstanding in any aspect of the game, but very good overall. His haul of honours is Phil Neal-esqe!

Sounds like Lucas Leiva!

Crikey!..I can see how SOME people would attribute that description to Lucas.
Seedorf...not a holding player/deep lying playmaker or an attacking (in the hole) type either....more a quick short passing give and go...get forward when he can, disciplined type. One of those players whose worth is often appreciated more by their teamates than the fans.

Yeah he told that one in his autobiography.

Best 7 minute cameo I've seen in years.

What a genius goal.

Utterly changed the direction of the game when he came on.

I think he was on the pitch for a wee bit longer than 7 minutes.

But on that note, he changed the game after Manure had taken a hold of it. I cannot believe how 'able' he is considering his age. I'd want him to be our 'primary' sub if it was an option - a wonderful player.
