Brendan:
“If I worked at Barcelona, I would have won a trophy by now. No question about that...No question."

Not what you say just before you play them. Actually, not what you say at all.

He's doing brilliantly in the league, there's no denying the superb effect he's had on re-shaping the entire team, and I'm sure he'll continue to improve the whole ethos there. But there's a bit of the Newcastle about him - it only takes a few good weeks and, boom, that swagger leaps out.

How Cavani doesn't have 3 or 4 or even 5 I don't know. Great goal to open the match but another underwhelming performance. ... again. Never seen him impress. I know the statistics but still...

Brendan was taking notes Rafa-style in the first half, but abandoned any pretense of coaching after it became a rout. For most of the game Celtic players just stood in their 2 straight defensive lines – 5 at the back, 4 in midfield – while Neymar, Messi and Suarez were running rings around them like they were traffic cones. The funniest thing was Pique going up front to play as a centre-forward alongside Suarez with 5 minutes to go, trying to get the 8th goal. Celtic were embarrassed, which probably won't prevent Rodgers from claiming they showed "great character."

To be fair, that's the last game you want a few days after the Old Firm derby, and you could see they were shattered in the second half. But still some very naive defending.

Celtic were unlucky not to be level after that awful peno.

They tired badly.

We all know Rodgers weakness is setting up a team to defend, especially in Europe.

What about Newcastle eh, 6 straight wins, 6-0.

Martin Atkinson with an absolutely shocking refereeing performance in the PSV-Atletico game. Missed two clear penalties for PSV, but gave one that wasn't a penalty. Allowed an attack to continue that led to the winning goal while two players were down with a bad clash of heads (a clear breach of UEFA rules). Just all over the place.

Maybe the withering criticism will have him up his game at the weekend. I doubt it, but the idea is a crumb of comfort.
