Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

It's just a coincidence that the two countries run by the two biggest wankers on the planet are in the worst shit

That's misdirected. For one thing many of the roadworks will be the responsibility of the utility companies rather than local government, and for another the resources local govt.gets from central govt.to perform the legal duties laid on them by that same government largely stay the same in real terms, or get cut, while costs are going up like everyone else's because of inflation. So yes, they do have play those games over the budget, because the system for funding local govt.was centralised by Margaret Thatcher and ruined in the process (deliberately, because she and her colleagues wanted to abolish local govt.altogether), but it's still the councils which ship the blame when local services fall short - which happens far less often than it should because local councils are actually a sod of a lot more efficient than central govt.and always have been. Bring back local rates and let councils stand or fall by their own decisions, or aim the criticism where it belongs, namely at Whitehall.

Perhaps. But the central government is smaller in terms of their impact upon the money at risk. They take in over £600bn a year, so even allowing for their grubby little thieving hands pocketing obscene sums, it is still relatively small in terms of impact. When you drill down to local government level, the grubby councillers, adminstrators, and certain unnamed mayors do far worse damage to peoples lives.

The decisions they make are ridiculous to. Who the fuck do they think they are? What qualifies them to assess who gets a house, or a benifit? They're pointless. You might as well flip a coin, or else get a computer to allocate money and make evidence based decisions far more efficiently. The sooner the local council is replaced with skynet the better.

Who said anything about testing. I'm talking about dead people. More people are dying here than anywhere else apart from the US, which is a bit bigger than here.

Of course it's our govts fault.
And France (identical population size) ... who lambasted the UK's strategy and threatened to close down borders with us unless we switched to something more akin to theirs but had more deaths yesterday (987 to 980, highest for both nations) and have had far far more deaths. Seems strange to be comparing such figures though.

You should go to the court one day, should we still be alive after this is over, and just sit for a day listening to the thirty minute hearings of various arms of government being sued. Tax cases. Immigration cases. Fitness to practice cases. Housing cases. The truth will reveal itself to you. The deaths are nothing to do with austerity. It's to do with the people working in these public administration roles being total frauds, trying to scam the taxpayer for every penny they can, then lying through their teeth to pretend they did their jobs. The clueless public then blame the collapsing services upon insufficient funding, and demand more spending. They are literally demanding that more of their income be handed over to the fraudsters who are rinsing them dry.

We should let private enterprise take over - they never get sued for fraudulent practices and definitely won’t try to rinse every last penny out of taxpayers.

Two differences. First you are free to go to one of the private enterprise's competitors. Second, if you sue that private enterprise, then when they lie in court you win the case plus all the damages there and then, rather than a public administrator who can lie at will and the court will simply say to you "problem bro? we're not here to make findings of fact, as you were".

There is going to be a massive sue culture at the end of this.. industrial injuries and all that..

Hancock trying to put the blame of lack of PPE on how its managed on the NHS..
Just beggers beleif..

My neighbors who work for the NHS, refused to support patients without the right PPE.. Why because they have children at home, to consider who are occasionally looked after by their grandparents, because they prefer not to take up childcare, at the worry of spreading the virus to others..

Those nhs staff in their department who tested positive, didn't have the right PPE. Go figure.

Once the PPE was supplied.. one of them continued to work their extended shifts and support suspected covid19 patients coming to then in the maternity ward..

The other work in the labs and morgue..

More intreaguengly, out of the 180 or so draws they have 60 are set aside for coronovirus deaths.. They are all full, yet the official figure coming from the hospital in question is around 30..

It is believed the by most in the nhs the death rates are almost double the official confirmed figures..

If they have not been tested, despite being suspected with having Covid19 symptoms. They don't go towards the official figures, yet they are managed in the same way as those who have been tested..

Yet the bigger scandal is if they haven't been tested to confirm having covid 19, the nhs staff will not be given PPE, unless they fight for it.. i.e refusing to work..

France have been counting deaths outside of hospitals, the UK haven't.

Yes Dantes - that’s how it works.

Hang on, they have to fight for the testing kits first, so one thing at a time. Then once they can test more people we will be in a position to discuss the necessary protective equipment. To do so before the testing has been done would be premature, you need to time these things correctly you see.

Uh yes that is exactly how it works. Not only in the UK, but across the western world. You have civil law (to sue private companies) and administrative law (to sue public companies). The idea behind the latter is that the public sector is so busy "helping" the public, we should not really bog them down in complex litigation, hence we assume that the public sector has the public interest at heart and will never lie, so there is no need to have a full fact-finding legal process, so lets just take what they say as the facts and see if anything wrong took place. It will not shock you to learn that every fucking cunt in every fucking administrative role shows up to court and rattles off lie upon lie upon lie.

Why not just flee to your giant vacation house on a little island with a single small hospital, you know where I live. Be sure to give your gardener, movers, and various other staff some very personal attention.

Sadly I’m one of those white people that don’t have a holiday home to which I can flee, leaving my essential workers to brave it out. I have A friend who’s quite wealthy though and he fucked off ages ago.

Don’t forget Brazil. Worst in the Southern Hemisphere apparently.

"On March 26, Bolsonaro issued a presidential decree that exempted churches and lottery houses from state and municipal health regulations by classifying them as essential services, thus allowing people to congregate there."

You can't blame him in a sense, if you truly believe in God that much, then go to church, see how your faith works out for you. A test of faith as it were.

Some people seem to be quite happy so many people have died in the UK, and can thus claim Boris Johnson and the Tories are evil.

Maybe they actually planned the deaths of so many, possibly as a way of crashing the economy and making it easier to do a 'hard Brexit'

Actually, while the first part is true on this Forum, that last bit has been doing the rounds on the ever-entertaining lunatic left Twitter fringes.

So will make its way here eventually.

No one is happy people are dying

What is wrong with you? Like, at your core? What is wrong with you?

And it's not cynicism or nihilism, because I'm fully on that train.

There's something there, that means you're missing empathy or sympathy. Perhaps not as dramatic as Dante's, but autism could explain something I guess?

You're in the perfect industry I suppose, as they're shit scared of challenging Boris/Hancock/some cunt on why we were so ill prepared too. It's not China's fault we were so ill prepared, so stop fucking banging on about them. The government knew the NHS was grossly unprepared 3 years ago with the trial they oerformed. They didn't give a fuck and continued to waterboard the NHS.

It was government that could have prevented a majority of these deaths if they followed the advice given to them and learned from other countries failings. But no, we're British and science doesn't apply to us.

We're still not screening inbound flights at Heathrow.

The government being this incompetent, and STILL defending them is just fucking weird, that's only echoed by right wing columnists who want to get a whiff of Johnson's taint, in the hope it leads to a cushy position

Except you're doing it on a football forum

It's dead fucking weird

How is it actually in New York? Are people obeying lockdowns?

So the top 3 bellends in power have the highest death rates?

Please. One has been overthrown by the military and is now sat around with fuck all power. One idiotically got himself infected and is now sat around with fuck all power. Guess which one is still at his post, working as hard as ever, trying to do his job amid the biggest crisis in memory?

One of the things Big D has done is to restrict movement across the border. A totally logical and sensible precaution.... and no surprises he get's called a racist for his trouble:

[article]
On Tuesday, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote a letter to acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, who oversees border agencies, saying the government's use of the emergency public health measure was not legal. "Contrary to existing law, individuals, families and children are now unable to sufficiently make claims for asylum, seek other forms of humanitarian protection, and, in some instances, are being expelled to countries in which they fear prosecution," it said. The letter also said the administration appeared to have "granted itself sweeping powers to summarily expel large, unknown numbers of individuals arriving at our border". It said: "This amounts to a startling expansion of executive power under the guise of a global pandemic response."

Mostly. Close all the bars, cinemas, theaters and restaurants and non essential offices and there’s not a lot going on. There was a big problem with the parks and people were really hanging around a lot but that’s lessened and they’ve tried to close them. There was a tipping point last when you could suddenly sense everyone taking it very seriously. People had been generally a bit casual about social distancing and stuff like that but then when large fatality numbers started coming in people on the street started to very clearly walk as far from everyone else as possible. I walked By a couple under a bridge the other day and we couldn’t get out of each others way so they turned to face the wall as I walked past them. So some people have lost their shit completely. The number of people wearing gloves and masks has also risen dramatically in the last week or so. I’d say it was only about 10% of people a week ago where I am Now it feels like about 80%. My family are quite relaxed but my daughter has now asked to wear gloves and a mask going out. Jean wears both but only to work or the supermarket (she’s an essential worker). My son won’t wear anything and when I’ve tried twice in supermarkets I’ve ended up steaming up my glasses so took it off.

The weirdest thing is when you meet people you know well in the street, friends even, and you talk from about 6 feet away.

I have A neighbor who died from it ( that actor from desperately seeking Susan) and know a few others who have it. One of them is in pretty bad shape and jean is upset about that.

The funniest thing is all the people who have to go outside, for whatever reason, to smoke week. When I walk around the neighborhood every day I meet About 40% exercisers, 40% dog walkers, and 20% weed smokers.

Well if I die, or one of my relatives die, the thought that someone will be able to sue for loads of cash, will make me feel so much better...

Sounds like it's about a week away from turning the corner, honestly think people need to get that overly cautious to have the "curve flattened", just a shame there's been so many deaths to get to that situation though.

Yea. Most people seem to think it was here for quite a few weeks before the alarm was raised and that lots and lots of more people have had it than the numbers show.

The talking to people via socially distancing is very odd.

My next door neighbours daughter is about 18, & her boyfriend cycles to see her every day, just to sit on the front path & chat to her as she sits on the doorstep. It's both endearing, & quite upsetting, in equal measure.

We're debating currently whether our close friends, who live two doors down, can m come over into our garden whilst still maintaining at least a 2m distance simply by using the back gates. Technically we'd be doing nothing wrong, but it feels wrong, despite there being an almost zero chance of cross infection.

It's all quite disconcerting.

My next door neighbor is only coming out once or twice a week. His wife and kid haven’t left their apartment in weeks. When they get a delivery he goes out to the hallway and washes everything before taking it back in to the apartment.

I’ve also got two friends who live near that westChester town that had one of the first high profile outbreaks. Both their wives make them so the grocery shopping and then enter the house through their garage where they have to strip, wash themselves with a hose or sponge and bucket before going into the house for a proper shower. Only then are they allowed to rejoin the family.

These are basically wealthy young white people by the way. Not exactly the most at risk group.

Feel free to end the debate, you would need to be several hundred metres away for there to be zero chance.

The upside of autism (aside from remarkable intelligence and mathematical modelling ability) is that prolonged isolation is barely an inconvenience.
