Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that our government has cost thousands, if not tens of thousands of lives through inaction & making shockingly poor decisions.

South Korea had their first case the day before ours. They followed the WHO guidelines, tested, contact traced & quarantined affected.

They had just over 200 deaths by yesterday, without having to go on lockdown.

The evidence was there, the procedures were there, but we didn't follow them because our government downplayed it in favour of keeping the economy going.

The long term affects of that will be devastating in terms of lives lost, & to the economy long term.

They can't defend the indefensible, hence the distraction bollocks about footy players.

To be honest, I can't really even remember who you are.

You seem to have no football or Liverpool FC interest or opinion to share, but just seem to pop up when anyone says something about racism or politics, post something tedious, and then fuck off again.

Is this really the best Forum for you?

For someone who doesn't know who I am, you seem to have a remarkably accurate grasp of my posting habits 🙂

We're not South Koreans, though. That's a country whose national sport for a decade was fucking Starcraft. It's nation of shut-ins who do what they're told.

You could also go back to the Roman economy. They also had a welfare state, handing out free grain (JJ or Portly can confirm this). Tiberius responded to his debt burden with quantitative easing, debasing their coins with cheaper metal. Or you could just use your socialist politics to deny the historical data and pretend you're smarter than dantes.

Given that modern capitalism arguably didn't really exist before the mid 1800s, I dunno why we're talking about the Romans, and given you were saying 70-80 years between 'socialist bailouts' and using these graphs as though there is something inherently socialist about debt...what the blathering fuck are you on about?

You're making zero sense, as usual...

On top of MPs £26k pa in home office budget they're being given an additional £10k each for home working expenses during the Corona virus epidemic for laptops and printers

Lol

Plus an increase of 5k per month to their personal credit accounts?!

Strange how they need 10k to set up home working when everyone else who has to do it manages it with either nothing, or a very modest outlay, coming out of their own pockets.

In fairness, they aren't all just being given ten grand. It is an increase in the amount that they are allowed to claim back in expenses if those expenses relate to running an office. It also isn't purely for them, it is for their staff, who would normally work in their constituency offices or Westminster offices and would now need to be set up for home working.

The payment card part, I guess, is regarding paying the costs up front before they can be claimed.

That said, it is a large amount and IPSA are generally a dreadful organisation that took over a ridiculous system and don't really seem to have made it very much better as far as I can tell, but there we are.

No, I don't want you to be a disciple. It is simply aggravating for me to see other people take a cause and effect phenomenon, and try to explain it or deny it by reference to feelings and emotions and social bullshit. Once you stop doing so, I have no desire to elevate your thinking to a greater level or to mentor you, indeed I am happy to remain the master in perpetuity and eradicate any potential threats to my position.
You ignore social factors because they introduce unwanted complexity to your simple theories. You think you're being clever, but you're actually just sidestepping any kind of intellectual engagement. You're a fucking dimwit and everybody knows it but you.

Fair questions. I am on about the economic cycle, which pre-dates modern capitalism. You can control that every decade with interest rates encouraging the private sector to spend money more or less money as needed (capitalist bail out, because capital is still held by businesses and consumers). Eventually debts get so high that interest rates don't fool the private sector, this happens every 7 or 8 decades roughly (in economic terms, in my terms that's a shit estimate but its besides the point, I didn't want to confuse woland with the intricacies), businesses and consumers see the shit hitting the fan, so the state has to step in and provide the spending (which is the socialist bail out, because the state / central bank now own the assets).

As if. Imagine a Chinese person sitting at a table tossing a coin. They need a head. The coin lands tails. You have a bunch of medical researchers talking about it being a 50-50 chance, and statistic this and statistic that. You have me talking about the centre of mass of the coin, the particle interactions, the forces, and blaming it upon the wrong force being applied to the wrong part of the coin. Then we have you, calling me a racist for blaming the chinese person. That's what I know.

Guess which one of those three approaches will predict exactly how to get a head on the next throw? It ain't your bullshit feelings or social intelligence. And it ain't the statistical cop-out.

This was the week that people were bemoaning how they have lost Corbyn and Sanders in the same week, crying actual tears at the tragedy of it all, of what could have been. Even my reserves of disgust and hatred are running out looking at these fools, you should have picked a different week to crack open the beer.

The opening of a beer is not an irregular occurrence in my life.

My slab of Chocolate Porter arrived today - just in time for Easter.

Hurrah!!!

...and praising Trump for the rise in US interest rates ahead of it.

"“We have people on the Fed that really weren’t — they’re not my people, but they certainly didn’t listen to me because they made a big mistake. They raised interest rates far too fast"

“Because we go up and every time you go up they want to raise rates again."

"So far, I’m not even a little bit happy with my selection of Jay. Not even a little bit. And I’m not blaming anybody, but I’m just telling you I think that the Fed is way off-base with what they’re doing.”

Here's a clue: it's not a final between Flash and Jaedong. It's that nation of shutins "doing what they are told" in the candlelight revolution.

Korea is one of the best run countries in the world. It's like you can't cope with the fact that US and the UK are exposing just how sloppy they are.

And starcraft is the best video game, of all time.

I am grateful you have made me aware of this beverage, it sounds somewhat palatable.

No president of a government with record levels of debt is ever going to like an interest rate hike. But the fact the Fed thought the US were able to absorb those hikes, just goes to show the job Big D had done. A victim of his own success.

Oh ok, that clears it up, you are praising him for doing something he didn't do, and didn't want to do, and actively campaigned against.

I was praising his management of the US economy, which is why the Fed were able to raise interest rates. In fairness his success was not as spectacular as I believed last year. Seeing the rate at which money has shitted itself out of the US economy due to the pangolin eaters, some of that money might have been there purely because the US was the best of a bad bunch of crap places to stash money, as opposed to being a good deal in absolute terms.

That's missing the point entirely. They didn't have to be told to shut in, the only people in quarantine were the confirmed cases. Because they followed the guidelines that WHO recommended at that time to the letter.

They now have approx 10k cases & approx 200 deaths & still haven't had to have a lockdown.

The UK disregarded them entirely, & have almost 61k cases & more than 7000 deaths, plus a lockdown which will damage the economy so severely it will cause countless deaths in the long term too.

The UK didn't disregard that example. Their government did. Moreover Boris did. A fact lost upon the people wishing him a full recovery.

If we're going on .2% deaths from Korea and we're supposed to be double our released figures according to the ONS, then... Counts on fingers... We're at 8 million infected already and will be at herd immunity in... Counts on other hand... About 4 weeks.

It's hard to do 2% death rate when you exceed capacity. Seoul is better prepared than anywhere, in that respect.

If Putin starts to threaten all of Europe with nuclear holocaust on a daily basis, perhaps you'll all get there next time there's a pandemic. So here's hoping!

Sorry I meant 0.2. I've seen 0.1 mentioned as more likely but dunno. It does depend on a few bits, general health and age of population, and genetic factors.

When you look at what Taiwan and South Korea did, the responses from the west are beyond embarrassing.

Whose interest does it serve to dismiss those unbelievably responsive, professional and efficient reactions as down to an obedient national character?

It's less likely to be about some innate national character and more likely to be having seen first hand the effects of SARS they take epidemics seriously, no?

Korea is 2 percent of confirmed cases, no? 200deaths/10000cases. Or do you mean including those who are asymptomatic?
