Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

FFS remember BSE? Cows live on grass, they certainly don't eat meat, definitely not other cows, but what we did, in the UK, was boil up their mum and dad's brains and spinal cord and feed it to their kids. For some completely fucking unknown reason, and it unleashed an awful neurological brain disease across the nation and beyond... Which we got away with because it wasn't as infectious as first feared. Still couldn't export beef for a decade because of our dirty bastard weirdo farmers.

It's hardly just a Chinese thing to be this fucking weird. I mean turning cows into cannibals is way more weird than wanting to eat snakes. I hear you can get rattlesnake on the menu in florida, right next to alligator and muskrat. Eating local animals is way less weird than what led to BSE.
Lots of countries still don't accept blood donations from people who lived in the UK during the 80s because of this.

And while we're here, lots of farmers (US especially) still give their animals antibiotics for no good reason and are helping the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

So there's that.

The methods involved in the mass production of meat are the main reason why I've stopped eating any of it. But it's much easier to scream at some pretend enemy than have to think about what's on your own plate, and I guess having Chinese people to point at is very comforting to some.

Yeah, I only wish that we could have more zoonotic global pandemics that originated in the UK, like SARS, bird flu and the coronavirus, so that we could cover up, mismanage, lie and obfuscate while people die. But we don't. It's only places like China that definitely do.

Can I ask a stupid question ?

Is it racist to call the virus Chinese because it originated in China ?

I din't realise viruses had nationalities but I don't think it's a massive issue. If we're going to do that we should at least be consistent and rename Spanish Flu to American Flu. Or Kansas Flu. Or "UK troop staging and hospital camp in Étaples, France Flu". In fact, fuck it, blame the French.

Yeah only a couple of hundred died, by complete fluke, and our govt told the us and the rest of world that the meat was safe when it clearly knew it wasn't. All the shit you're throwing at the Chinese is exactly how we behaved on this.

I guess it depends if you're trying to educate people about the cause and source of it, or you're just trying to be a dick to a billion people who had nothing to do with it.

So comments like this would equally be racist ? :
Can't trust Russian glass. They send monkeys and dogs into space.

Yeah but that's because the remain campaign wasn't a covert Russian mission to destabilise the planet

So the Chinese were just unlucky?

(And by extension, so is the rest of the world?)

There's no blame, no need to question source, causes, the response, lies, propaganda or collusion with the WHO?
No need to wonder why IT KEEPS FUCKING HAPPENING?

Fuck that.

Didn't America fire the first monkey into space? Wonder where it landed*? And if it was eaten, or maybe venerated as a God.

* I know most probably didn't land intact

We can have a separate chat about things that are caused by intent and things that happened by mistake if you're finding this confusing.

Where did I say that? My point was that both of or our food industries caused diseases that cause human death, and both of our govts covered them up and hoped for the best

You didn't, but I'm sure you'll notice that I haven't really been directing any vitriol your way, just the Beijing lickspittles who - up until a few weeks ago - were still fucking banging on about, among other things: fucking Swine flu; claiming wet markets weren't a big issue; China wasn't to blame; it was all overreaction and not that bad (especially compared to swine flu); and did we mention swine flu?; and maybe it's a horrible racist Western conspiracy; and what about that swine flu, eh?

If you're talking about Frogfish, he was the first person in this thread to mention the lack of hygiene in the wet markets. You just got hold of one thing he said about the predicted rate of spread and have been banging on at him ever since.

Saying Russians are essentially untrustworthy is at least as racist.

Or are you saying you made a mistake ?

Russian isn't a race dude. We all know that neither the Russian nor Chinese govt are trustworthy, what are you getting at? Neither are the UK or US, but there are levels.

There is no such thing as race, from a biological point of view. It was invented by dickheads to try and be scientific about being a dickhead and thinking that one group of people is better than the other.

But here we are.

Can I ask a stupid question ?

I don't think it's racist. Lots of Chinese people referred to it as 武汉病毒 (Wuhan disease)at the start, (and still do)before the WHO gave it a name.

Of course people got touchy when ppl started blaming them for it.

But it took on a different tone and complexion when Trump started using attacks on China's cover-up, as a distraction from his own slow reaction. The Chinese understandably were quite upset at this point since they had managed quite well by now (despite their initial fuck up which they admitted to), and were sending medical aid overseas, and everyone knew about the problem since Jan anyway.

I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry did tweet that the virus might have started in the US a couple of weeks ago, asking if the US were covering it up. I mean fuck that. Trump had to react one way or other, it would probably have been more helpful to call the govt lying bastards rather than end up getting loads of Chinese people beat up in the street, but Trump's gonna Trump.

Hmmm. The problem I'm having here isn't that I object to labeling the virus by it's likely country of origin, it's the fact that other racist twats take that information and then, by association are aggressive towards all people who look like they may be from China. Take my wife for instance. Born in America to Chinese parents. I just had to chin some fucking cunt in the parking lot two days ago for screaming at my wife about causing all this shit.

@manwithnoname I hold you responsible for this - by association of course.

I assume your wife wasn't standing in the car park shouting that America started the virus and this is all an evil Western conspiracy, and anyway what about Swine Flu?

China and the WHO were still claiming IN MID JANUARY that there was no evidence of any human-to-human transmission, because they're lying cunts.

Not entirely sure. They got tagged in a post asking to share info and they replied, shared, and donated.

Makes about as much sense as anything else I've seen this week.

Well, now I just love the Wu Tang Clan even more, despite not actually buying any Wu records since....er probably around 2000's "Supreme Clientele" by Ghostface

Russia is untrustworthy. They're worse than China. Or at least as bad.
Anywhere that doesn't have a free press and is governed by a autocratic communist regime (or religious one) should never be trusted.

Haven't you watched Chernobyl? Or Red Heat?

China locked everything down and went oh shit and told everyone around the 19th January, which last time I looked was still January. About 11 weeks ago. And we still don't have adequate PPE or testing kits, and managed to make the outbreak here far more massive than it had to be by being nearly as bad as the Chinese. At least the Chinese were dealing with new shit. We got told exactly what it was and that it was coming months ago.

Simply put, when people get sick of this in the UK, it's down to our response to the situation. We had more than enough facts and stats from the six weeks between 19th Jan and early March from China to Italy to know to lock down then. It'd be pretty much fucking done by now if we had. But nope. Herd immunty strategy and now we're sat here waiting to get sick or go bust for fuck knows how long.

Not to mention the government letting UK suppliers sell hundreds of thousands of items of PPE equipment & ventilators to other countries who were stocking up.
