I think the general consensus is if we get locked down there will be riots. The messages from the Government throughout Covid have been confusing, and when you add in that Boris clearly doesn't give a fuck about wearing a mask and leading by example, you can sort of see why the masses have followed suit.
I get the bus to work, I mask up everywhere. I work with vulnerable children and some have low life expectancy. So I have to be ultra careful. We have been commended for how thorough we've been (as an organisation) in having our own Coronavirus Policy and protocols throughout that have stricter measures than what the Gov recommends, and it's kept our kids safe.
When travelling to work I'd say 80% of passengers don't wear masks. Pubs and restaurants have zero practices in place for cleaning quickly and thoroughly between customers and following distancing guidelines. You can see why we are in this mess.
Last Sunday we had our (work) children's Xmas Party at a local hotel. The hotel hadn't cleaned from a party the night before. So before we even started to set up we all had to clean and sanitise everywhere. There were empty bottles and cans in the reception area, tables covered in ale and God knows what. Then there were no staff on hand to clean up after us, so we cleaned up after approx 130 people including those vulnerable children. And then myself and my other half (who helped on the day) have ended up with Covid. Doesn't take a genius to work out and all because the Government have failed to keep guidance in place and for people to actually use common sense and follow basic practices of cleanliness and safety.
Society is fucked, people just don't care about others. Even within the groups of friends I have and friends of friends, there's an alarming amount of people who are still of the opinion that Covid is a conspiracy, nothing more than a common cold, a tool for the Gov to control us. People are really really really fucking stupid. Unfortunately our society follows those leading them and in our case, there's not much actual leadership there, just a buffoon with a book of cliches that he rolls out whenever he has to address the nation.
As for Covid, it's completely unpredictable. My partner and son have no symptoms, but both have now lost their sense of taste/smell. I have had fever symptoms every might, constant banging headaches, aching all over, light sensitivity and now a serious cough. It's a nasty virus, but not everyone gets it the same. The one thing I will say is that at it's worst, it's easy to see why vulnerable people could easily go on a downward spiral quickly. It weakens just about everything. I've got a water infection as a side effect, occasional confusion and I'm light-headed. I couldn't imagine a 60+ year old having these symptoms and avoiding hospital. And I've had both jabs.
