Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

@juniormember Can you give us a breakdown of the quarantining and preventative measures undertaken in Japan? From memory they weren't initially that extensive and didn't introduce the ban (or need to quarantine) on Chinese tourists (and then initially only from Hubei) until well after the virus had exploded in Wuhan/Hubei.
Japan’s only lucked out so far. Far from the best and was dead slow at doing anything.
Now most of the major corporations have people working from home and the government have asked people to stay home.
But quite a lot of people are still going out, no city is under lockdown.
I must say we were a few weeks earlier than the UK when it came to bog roll mania though 🙂

Japan is one of the most naturally isolationist countries in the world, with exceptionally limited immigration and a homogenous, educated society that follows orders
The government talks bollocks though so I wouldn’t put much thought into the stats. I imagine numbers are actually much higher.
We get a shit ton of Chinese tourists and I think the government is still not putting a ban in place for inbound travel. The dickheads.

It was earlier in the thread. About 700 infected, about 10 dead. Half showed no symptoms. Something like that anyways. The researchers somehow came up with a stat of 0.5& people dead who catch it in normal circs, but it's probs quite a bit lower as most young people don't die and like you say, there aren't many young people on cruises. I think the thing that will batter the UK is the lack of beds in a couple of weeks. It'll be carnage for a month or so.

Don't worry. The researchers will update their assumptions to fit the new data, publish a new advisory report, and they will continue to look like experts in the media. I assume that will be when the right time to shut schools is upon us.

Less yanks the better imho, shame its New York, if only it was Texas..

Yet Another hilarious joke from RedNinja where he wishes death on certain people, although this time it isn't Tories, it's the American equivalent.....Republicans!

He wouldn't find all this so amusing if there was a disease that killed only really stupid, uneducated people who can't spell and are barely capable of formulating a coherent sentence and everyone laughs at because they're so fucking thick.

I think someone recently said you were 'thick, but not malicious'

Fabio, I think it was.

Now, nobody at all would argue the 'thick' part, as you well known across the Forum for being incredibly stupid, but I wonder if the 'malicious' part is also true.

Perhaps the two go together, in that what you display is a sort of retarded malevolence, which isn't exactly well-defined, but merely an unfortunate by-product of your problems with basic cognitive processes, and low-level anger issues. A sort of dull frustration with life in general, a bit like how bullies are in school.

Well, not a normal school. How I would imagine bullies to be in a Remedial School.

What do you think Ninj? Is it fair?

@manwithnoname you don't like your own medicine do you?

If you can't handle it don't dish it..

Any one who remotely thinks I meant what I said then needa their heads testing..

I was playing the game only you play so well.. looking for a reaction

Fuck this.

The wife's cousin in Italy was 34 and asthmatic. He died today alone in the local hospital. They tried to to get an internet connection via some iPad mini to his closer family which failed. The poor fucker died in full consciousness. He got a 'NCR' sign which means 'non candidate di rianimazione'. That meant he didn't qualify for ventilation. They simply don't have the facilities anymore.

Lads, I'm in tears here. Heaven help us.

RIP, Tommaso.

Forza Atalanta.
Listen, thanks for posting this it must have been extremely difficult for you.. It kinda highlights how serious this is, I hope your wife and yourself are able to grieve during these uncertain times.. Really sad to hear

I have a daughter who suffers from Asthma and another who has High blood pressure, both are in the at risk category

My eldest with asthma is now working from home, but lives in flat with 2 others, they have all been advised to limit social contact as they could be putting Yasmin (my eldest) at risk.

To make matters worse, my daughter who has high blood pressure now has to self isolate with her carer who is over 70 and has type 2 diabetes.. Her Career rightly originally flagged that my daughter who was going to college could be putting her at risk..

Now my daughter has been identified in the at risk category and sent home from college indefinitely... They have been told to self isolate together, and both told to limit social contact wherever possible..

Makes it extremely difficult to understand how I can both support them, when my gut instinct is to do just that..

Can't handle it? Don't dish it? Eh?

You're the one who fucking cried off and changed your username during the run-up to the election (when you got fucking roasted by everyone), and I was asked to leave you alone- and then banned from actually replying to the Politics Superthread - because you were cry-arsing and self-banning yourself and threatening to leave 6CM forever.

You were being protected from me.

The only reaction you ever genuinely get from me is occasional incredulous laughter when you say something generally retarded, and mild confusion about how anyone can grow into adulthood so fucking stupid, and exactly how nobody you ever meet in real life doesn't ever call you out on it.

I mean, I know people are generally polite, and maybe you tend to socialise mainly with other idiots, but surely you occasionally meet normal people, and I marvel at how they simply don't laugh in your face and tell you shut the fuck up.

Perhaps this is the only place you express opinions? That would explain it, and if so 6CM is performing a useful societal function, both for you and everyone else.

Although I'm not saying I disagree with you, I do point you towards the historic Margaret Thatcher death thread, where a significant number of 6CM members had a free for all on the dead. A precedent has been set.

I’m pretty sure RedNinja will get away with it though.

Of course, diminished responsibility and coerced by a non-retarded adult, he will skate.

I'll be the monster in this scenario, all they'd have to do is pull up anything from 6CM that he's ever posted and it will be obvious who wields the power, and has used it for terrible, nefarious sexual ends

The Cruise Liner Princess (something) cluster is the best data cluster for infections and fatality rate- 4000 on board in a closed environment. Passengers mostly above 70 years old. @Frogfish, what is your findings on this cluster?
Yeah Woland has already posted the figures for the Diamond Princess.

Around 4,000 on board; 712 cases (7 deaths), 249 ongoing cases (14 critical). To be honest I think it's difficult to use this as a case basis for anything except other cruise ships due to the general use of public spaces by virtually everyone on board and close proximity when living on a ship.

One very interesting fact is that considering the fact the majority of people were clearly in the high risk category (either by age or having pre-existing comorbidities) is that, assuming all the Covid-19 tests were correct, only 17.8% became infected and under 1% mortality. Even more so when considering that close social interaction on a cruise liner is far in excess of that expected in normal daily life.

So much for the 70-80% infection forecasts if in what are essentially the perfect conditions, and with transmission taking place for a week or more before lock-down, the rates of infection and mortality were still relatively so low.

This all sounds ace and I'm on with the optimism on a pure numbers basis. Most people are going to be fine. Just that the apocalyptic scenes in A&E that could be avoided with a lockdown that hasn't happened yet. The spike in about a week is going to be horrible. They should be keeping everyone indoors.

Once they find out about the gin & coke it’s all over.

You might be able to get away with it - as long as you don’t hire Dantes.

The match ratings thread will never be the same again nor will the Last Film You Watched Thread.

We’ll have to console ourselves with updates on Red Ninja’s driveway rebuild.

Social distancing can be implemented to near perfection on a cruise ship. You'd need a pretty thick group of passengers who leave their rooms, or go around touching surfaces and rubbing their eyes once the infection is known about.

People socially distance themselves from you because they’re scared you might cut out their liver and eat it with same fava beans & a fine Chianti.

It’s harder to do with other people.

Exactly, the infection and mortality rates are very low. That's is why I think this is a cluster that should be the mean data to be referenced against, whereas countries wide data is fraught with uncertainty due to lack of resources, and with non detection because symptoms are mild.

We’’ve tested 28000 over here. 1520 are infected, 74 in hospital and 4 are dead.

We’re probably the country, along with South Korea that are performing the most tests.

My mate's missus is a paramedic and she's in hospital with it now. She's only 30 odd but needs treatment.

As someone who started his working life in the Royal Navy I assure you you are talking out of your arse. Ships are virtual petri-dishes 😉
