Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

As for any current religious affiliations with the clubs, there are none and there hasn't been any in my lifetime. I'd also heard that Everton were meant to be the catholic club, but never from anyone who seemed to know why or have any other info than that. Much like the people's club stuff, pretty sure it's BS. Especially as I have now googled and the St Domingo church that started the club was Methodist, which is a splitter bunch of Anglicans. There's no doubt that Liverpool's founder was a protestant, a tory and the lord mayor. But this was all a lonnnnnng time ago and totes irrelevant.
Thank fuck for that, what a relief

I'm an atheist, but being from Belfast I'm also a catholic atheist.

I'm a Catholic Jew - born, raised and practising Catholic but Jewish mother, albeit she became a Catholic when she married my dad, hence Jewish by race (certainly as far as Jews are concerned).

That's definitely Northern Ireland, not so much the south as it (was) about 95% Catholic.

In NI you can nail someone's religion with 2 or 3 easy questions: 1) What's your name? 2) Where are you from? and if needed 3) What school did you go to?

Or simply: 1) What's your religion?

Case closed.

It's the same in scotland btw. Fucked up world we live in.. makes me glad I live in England where we don't have to worry about such things.
Give it a few years of Brexit and the question that will determine the safety of your knees will be what way you voted.

I thought they just stabbed you regardless in England.

National pastime innit - stabby here, stabby there, stabby stabby everywhere.

Not like the gentlemen assaulters in Norn Iron that will at least attempt to ascertain whether you indeed should be relieved of one of your knee caps before the deed.

And they usually leave you one good knee cap.

Are you a Catholic Jew or a Protestant Jew?
Yeah got asked that one many times, my reply was always Jewish-Jewish because staying neutral was very important.

I have a slight preference for Celtic over Rangers most of the time although a Rangers win in the Old Firm game has never bothered me. I want Rangers to win the league now though because Scottish football has been even more boring than usual since Rangers financial problems and it will be more interesting when they are both competing for the trophies.

Getting pretty ridiculous now, how about recommending the closure of those wet markets, or at least regulating them so animals are slaughtered beforehand.
Or in fact how about recommending people stop drinking bat soup or recommending people working in labs handling deadly viruses make sure said viruses don't get out.

China's aviation regulator has recommended cabin crew wear disposable nappies and avoid using the toilet to cut the risk of Covid-19 infection.
The advice on nappies is in a section on personal protective equipment in new guidelines for airlines.
The regulator said the recommendation applied to charter flights to high-risk Covid-19 destinations.

Lots of noise today about Tier 3 kicking in for London next week. What's the point? The booming demographic in terms of figures are secondary school kids, they break up next week. Regardless, tiers take three weeks to kick in. They won't bring them in for over a week so that puts us over halfway through Jan when all the over 80s have supposedly already been vaccinated anyway, who account for 80 odd percent of deaths and ninety odd percent of hospitalisations last time I looked. So there's zero point doing anything about it.

Love it when you don't have to do anything

Yup, both my kids contracted the rona in their last week in school. Keeping schools open in a borough with the highest local spike in a tier 3 area has worked out well. Mr covid has run riot in their year groups in the past 10 days. The school closed last Monday, about 10 days too late.

I hope you are keeping well though old chap?

Thanks for asking sir, I've no idea how, but I haven't contracted it, despite being locked in a house with two biohazards. We're meant to be going to Norn Iron for Xmas so if I do, it will be too late for me to be out of the quarantine period. So I'm trying to be super careful now. Fact is, I didn't contract it when I wasn't being careful though. I'm wondering if I maybe caught it before.

One of your international students probably infected you early in the year. Remember it, make a list of suspects, narrow it down, and then you know what to do.

How many variants of this thing are there now?
Hancock says another variant has spread across London and home counties

That'll be a total lockdown of 2021 n all

Well if Hancock is to be believed then apparently the current vaccines are still effective so let’s hope so.

There is no evidence that they are not effective = we don't know because after using your funds to pay all of our salaries there simply wasn't enough left to do any actual research on this, and pfizer are hardly going to spend their own money on research which potentially undermines a newly approved product.

Top officials told media outlets Sunday that the Health Ministry was planning to hand those who are vaccinated against the coronavirus a “green passport” that will grant a waiver of restrictions applied to curb the virus outbreak.

Among the rights for holders will be access to cultural events and eating at restaurants, and the right to not quarantine after exposure to a diagnosed virus carrier, they said. It will be issued two weeks after a person gets the second of the two shots required for the coronavirus.

Let's see how many more countries follow suit and push people into taking the vaccines and how much of a pushback there will be

Since ⅔ of Pfizer's vaccine development costs came from the US & German Govts. (since Germany's BioNTech is around a 50% partner in the development) and ⅓ from private sponsors (NPCs) then it's not their money they are spending !

Considering how the virus is spreading in both countries I'm guessing they'll throw whatever is necessary at it.

Love it. All those anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists are going to be confined to living in their cellars. One way to rid the world of those nutters.

The anit-vaxxers can have their own pubs and gigs to go to.

Although I'm wondering what way this vaccination book can be abused?

Pfizer have zero incentive to spend a single penny on more clinical trials to test their vaccine against a strain different to the one for which they got approval. They will quite happily sell the one they have without a care in the world. The government researchers have zero incentive to spend a single penny on cellular scale research undertaken by microbiologists to determine the efficacy of the vaccine on other strains. They will quite happily pay themselves a salary and the university overheads without a care in the world. You're confusing that spending with the spending they may have to use once it's already too late, for a new round of clinical trials should the current vaccine become useless.

You are confusing the USA (thinking they live in a bubble) with Germany.
