Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

It's looking increasingly likely that Scotland will leave the Union too. Bad for Labour that.
We've had serious discussions about moving up to Scotland before they do so whilst it's easier & before they start pushing for eu membership & everybody tries to pile in.

The family thing is the big issue, bigger than work in fact (we can both relocate jobs easily enough within reason), but we're edging ever closer, this country is run by rich greedy cunts for stupid xenophobic cunts.

Well, Starmer reversing over Corbyns hard work makes that easier.

Corbyn's 'good work' left Labour with their lowest number of MPs since 1945. Starmer (given that he is actually a proper politician) seems to be giving them at least a fighting chance of coming back a lot sooner than they would have done.

Sorry , I mis-phrased that , I was speaking from anyone firmly in the labour socialist camp , so much of that has already been eroded and more will be done under Starmer

Move to Belfast. At this rate there'll be a united Ireland and you can get the ferry across, giving you time to fit in a few pints instead of driving...

Ah, okay. Well, anyone wanting the Tories out should probably hope so!

Ireland is an option too.

Brits can live and work here on the same terms as Irish citizens regardless of Brexit.

That's what I suggested. Well, the cheaper part of Ireland. If he moves to Belfast there's a better chance he can afford a house there.

I have family in Scotland & have been in love with the place since I was about 13, plus there's jobs for us both there, although brexit could lead to shitloads of customs jobs in Ireland too now I think about it. They may even pay for us to move there, esp with Bex mad work skills.

Yup. But I think houses are about to get more affordable down south too. Fingers crossed

You'd hope so. Prices definitely went bananas for a few years. 2019 was a great time for me to buy. You'd think long term they'll come down though and there may be some repurposing of commercial real estate in Dublin at least given lots of people will probably at least do a few days a week from home permanently. Although politically our current Taoiseach and 'leading party's is basically a joke at this stage already after a few months in office.

I don't quite see how Scotish independence could be achieved at the moment. As far as I am aware, the Scottish government still needs to have the permission of the UK government to hold a second referendum, and it doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

If Scotland could just go ahead and call a legitimate referendum themselves then they would do so, rather than having to have Ian Blackford boring the arse off everyone every week in Westminster bleating about one.

They could in theory mount a legal challenge to the idea that the UK government has to consent, but again, you could think that if they had a strong enough case they would already have done so.

The argument before was that they want to remain in the EU, but they have now left the EU, so that ship has sailed. I don't think they would (as things stand) qualify to join as a new member if they went indepenent and tried to join the EU.

I think I’ve got this right. Don’t mix with 5 other people. But go to work. Get public transport to get there. Get a coffee in your way in. Go out at lunch and buy something. Call in to the pub on your way home. Go to a restaurant for tea. Have another pint on your way back. But don’t mix with more than 5 people.

Ideally everyone would just keep their fucking heads down and do everything to help the economy. You're not allowed to do anything else unless it involves spending and/or making money,

And it’ll all be over by Christmas. But if not you get a Covid passport. If we get more testing done. And they get competent people to build the tech.

I assume the logic of pushing for one is basically the UK was in the EU last time around and that may make a lot of people feel differently. I would imagine if they gained independence they have a good shot at joining the EU fairly quickly.

I very much doubt it. As a small country and a newcomer they'd need lots of support, which is going to be in very short supply as the EU scrambles to try and put together some sort of recession support package for the whole of the bloc, whose existing members (especially countries already in serious trouble even before Covid like Spain and Italy) aren't going to take kindly to the Jockoes getting special help - never were in fact, but even less so now. Some commentators have speculated that they'd try for some kind of arrangement to stay in step with the pound but it isn't hard to imagine what kind of response to that they'd get from the UK government.

They could make a deal where all the pro independence Scottish people move to Northern Ireland and all the Unionists in NI move to Scotland. That way there could be a united Ireland with no hassle and the pro union Scottish get to keep it that way.

Sounds like you just copied the two state solution. You should be an academic with those plagiarism skills.

This would be the best solution ever. You might even call it the final solution. I bet no politician has ever used that phrase before.
