Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

In an effort to move on from the initial clusterfuck of a month this Government have had, having some scapegoats now is very convenient. Nothing about how Government agencies moved people between direct provision centres or how factory owners haven't had their workplace safety measures properly reviewed.

Direct provisions moves were made for two reasons:
1. To ensure social distancing could occur.
2. To isolate those showing symptoms.

I don't see the big issue with the moves. The furore that Cahirciveen drummed up, was simply opposition to asylum seekers being in the town dressed up as Covid concerns.

I know this because I was the one dealing with the legal threats that were made.

I'm also aware of the tactics that groups like MASI pulled to try to ensure Covid outbreaks can occur.

Public perception would be very different if the various Departments told the truth about what's going on.

Did they not move people right in the height of it without testing them though? I'm aware some people are definitely will use Covid as the excuse for their opposition but was there not an outbreak there after moving people without testing? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. I know there is a fuckload of gaming the system going on but surely these centre are ideal breeding grounds for the virus?

Yeah, there was no capacity to test 7000 people before making moves to ensure they could socially distance.

Four isolation centres were set up for people showing symptoms. People not showing symptoms were moved as well to newer centres where more space was available.

The alternative was leaving everyone where they were, which was perfect for the spread of Covid.

It wasn't perfect but the stats said you were slightly less likely to get it in Direct Provision than the average Joe Soap.

I had to advise on what measures could be taken in respect of people who refuse to comply with Covid hygiene guidelines last Friday.

And immediately Auckland goes into Stage 3 lockdown with the rest of the country on alert.

They don’t mess about in NZ - even if it kind of feels like an over-reaction..

The evidence seems to suggest that the bigger and sooner the overreaction the more you limit the spread.

But even still there's always going to be cases, unless you're China and you just don't count the cases anymore

Yeah - I’d agree with that - particularly based on what’s happening in Melbourne where the first lockdown was a lot less harsh than the second one.

Sydney has more cases than NZ but isn’t shutting down - as yet their numbers haven’t exploded.

The concern about Auckland must be, after over 3 months without a community transmission case - where did this one spring from?

Have they been letting tourists in?

We're in a second wave now, but no one seems to be taking this one seriously. I think it's because it's the height of summer and they want to have some sort of tourist season. I reckon this one will peak at the end of August/start of September...

I strongly suspect that a great many more people have had/have it & were/are asymptomatic than is being estimated, & cases only show up when enough of those gather to increase the viral load & get people ill enough to have symptoms, or it affects someone at risk & then they test those around them.

It would make a lot of sense on a lot of levels & explain a great deal. We won't actually know until they get a working & reliable antibody test though.

You're just saying that to piss me off.

I don't know how many cases there are in Rhodes. It could be Rona free...
It doesn't seem to be available to check, not on any English websites I can find anyway. I assume the Rhodes Echo or whatever their island paper is called will have the figures.

Although I'm fairly convinced the Greek authorities are suppressing the figures cos the tourist industry is worth so much to them.

If they're suppressing the figures then we are truly fucked as the daily messages I've been receiving from the gov are telling me we're hitting 200 new cases a day...

Ahh, found one with just Rhodes. No, I have no idea why the website is called ovulation calculators, may explain why it was on Google page 5.

https://www.ovulation-calculators.com/coronavirus/gr/rodos/

4 cases. I'm more arsed that greece totals will go up & they'll ban travel cos they did with Spanish Islands despite most being dead low cos the Spanish mainland was bad.

Or it getting bad enough here that they ask for testing first (which would be too expensive for us to do).

Ah well, we're fully covered with insurance so we should be OK.

I know why you found that page, you were checking to see if Mrs FFF will be ovulating while you're in Rhodes... I think it's time you had another kid.

I don’t believe they have been letting in Tourists - only citizens and even then, they have to isolate for 2 weeks.

The missus’ best friend is married to a Kiwi and they were seriously considering relocating to NZ while this was going on.

I just googled qatar air as was thinking of doing a last minute thing if the miley was in check, and they're making cattle class wear masks but business class can use their discretion.

That's a new level of covid apartheid.

Seems like they are one of the few airlines operating at their most capacity for routes wise .
