Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

There has to be a happy medium between fly and rat-infested unsanitary open-air markets and the American-style large-scale meat production, which has plenty of problems. The markets I've been to in Italy are lovely – both fresh and sanitary.

Yeah, it's a regulated farmers market.

No no no, you have it all wrong.

We need to let market forces decide these things not regulations. If people don’t what Coronavirus to exist they will simply express their dislike by shopping elsewhere.

We can’t have Government’s getting involved in curtailing people’s freedom to add to the economy in whatever way they see fit.

Except when it all goes tits up and we all have temporarily turn into a full on communist state to fix things so as capitalism can “take back control”.... until the next time things go tits up.

Tell them Dantes!!!

That's weird that you use metric even for height. I think the only people I know who do that are foreign tbh.

Personally I think imperial is easier, fundamentally. Metric is basically an arbitrary system, whereas imperial is on a human scale: an inch is roughly the size of the end joint of a thumb, a foot the size of your, well, foot, a pound the weight of apples you can hold in your hand etc.

I've never understood using imperial for small measurements. Trying using 5/8's of an inch when cutting wood is a fucking nightmare compared to using millimetres.

On the other hand, pint makes sense, measuring in feet for longer measurements seems to be easier for the brain than metres.

Going back the other way though, temperatures in Fahrenheit are MENTAL. Celcius makes logical sense. Freezing is 0. Boiling is 100. You couldn't get simpler if you tried.

Overall I much prefer the metric system, but having a mish mash of the two pisses me off. The amount of times I've advertised stuff for sale on ebay & had replies saying "what does it measure in inches?". Obv I just reply with a link to Google cm to inch converter to the stupid cunts.

Part of it's just my natural rebelliousness I think. I like that enough people have stuck two fingers up at the government and refused to conform to metric. Why should they? Imperial was fine. And I'm damn sure people knew measures better when there was just one system.

No, you need a law banning the consumption of pangolins. Simple, job done. Costs nothing. End of problem. Yet you want a convoluted set of regulations in its place. Because you think the regulator will protect your ass. It will be your undoing. These are the four things in order of importance you must have to thrive as a society:

(1) Capitalism (replacing this with globalism and pretending it's the same thing is the first sign of the apocalypse)
(2) Law (replacing this with regulations and paperwork checked by public bodies, instead of saying here's the law, I dare you to break it motherfucker, is the next sign)
(3) Democracy (replacing that with fake news and orange man bad narratives is the third sign)
(4) Science (replacing that with fake research to steal student fees and grants is the final nail, I'm all that stands in the way of that, which means you're already dead)

Hancock vs BoJo - who will rack up the most lies by the time a vaccine is found. It's got to be close at the moment.

He is totally wrong about it being treated as criminal. It's not a matter of law, it is a matter of regulations. Rest assured that when the government downgraded the risk level posed by the virus, it ensured that all the inadequate equipment became adequate overnight. Regulations bitch. That's how you comply with them and leave your victims heroes without a leg to stand on.

Is PPE from 2014, labelled over as 2020 adequate or legal?

The regulations will have some clause saying this is the rule unless otherwise deviated from for good reason. As long as a bit of paper, or a memo, or something with a vaguely reasonable sounding explanation for the change of date has been drafted, then it is perfectly legal. The regulator/government is the expert is judging these things, and the court will never interfere with that judgement call.

You would literally need to hack into hancock's emails, and find the smoking gun of him writing "oh shit, I'm going to lose my cushy position over this, let's change the dates on obsolete equipment and pretend it is new, get cracking, I'll make up some excuse later for the press", then you may have some small slim hope of winning the case. Other than that, forget about it.

Not going to lie , given the world we live in , I'm increasingly surprised that some nutjob hasn't made an serious attempt on his life yet

Chances are there would have been some kind of attempt. There are often attempts that don't make the news.

Also, a lot of the lunatics may support him!

Nice. My wife was painting the kitchen when I woke up (I did offer to help, but based on my complete incompetence at anything DIY related she wisely declined my offer) so my breakfast today consisted of a cereal bar and a cup of coffee.

We spent last Thursday morning to Monday evening prepping & painting all the woodwork in hall stairs & landing. In a large old victorian 4 bed house with pretty much all original features & woodwork that is huge job.

Need to do the two reception rooms & utility room, but having this weekend off. It's unsurprisingly stressful WFH & doing schoolwork with three kids so we couldn't face doing two weekends on the bounce.

Almost all the nutjobs are on his side. Even the far left/commie ones hate Hillary more.

I don't blame you! My wife runs her own business which she has had to completely close temporarily to all this, so she's doing a lot of house jobs. I am still doing both my jobs, so my aforementioned DIY ineptitude isn't the only reason I'm not involved much, though it is the main one.

Am helping where I can, but it's mostly getting rid of rubbish etc. I agreed to change a light fitting. Bit worried I might die.

It's very similar to wiring a plug. If it's an older house & hasn't been rewired just be aware the wiring to the light fitting may be in the old colour scheme, don't let it throw you off, just Google the old colours & maybe print them off to glance at. They're also maybe way more wires than you expect behind (depending on how it's wired), again, don't let that throw you, look at what wires go to the existing fitting & only those, they're the only ones you should need to do anything with most of the time.

Turn off all the electric, just in case. I heard a story where someone went to change a light fitting and turned off the electric for the ground floor of the house, but for some reason the light fitting was connected to the first floor. There was a bang and a bit of a surprise involved.
