Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

If everybody is an EU citizen, nothing.

If there's an EU citizen with non EEA family members, they might assist in EU Treaty rights visa and residence card applications. And litigation.

In Ireland the legal cases usually involves a UK citizen. Who is seeking to get spouses, children and extended family members from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh into the EU. Or else get a permission for a cousin, brother etc who is illegally on the State.

The level of fraud is astounding. Truly astounding. A Garda review of 2700 residence cards granted resulted in 92% of the residence cards being revoked because of fraud. Usually marriages of convenience. Latvian woman, Pakistani male.
I was talking about EU citizens moving to EU countries. I'm sure if I had to involve lawyers to move here I would probably have fucked it off and moved home as anything involving the legal process here is a right pain in the ass.

Domestically, Trump has been the best thing to happen to the CCP, since he makes Xi Jinping look like a fucking god in comparison. There was a lot of disquiet in China about the way they covered up the Wuhan virus, with greater cries for transparency.

But the subsequent collapse in the west, with the Big D advocating Lysol injections, armed protesters barging into senates, racism in the US, and America leading the way in number of deaths have give the population reason to think that China is the miles ahead of the west in terms of civilization. (Aided by a healthy does of CCP propaganda )

For the rest of us "third world nations" here in Asia (hogging the functional PPE while the first world writhes in agony) , we still hate and distrust the Chinese govt, but if the alternative is Donald Trump - - suffice to say China is now a few steps closer to global dominance.

Imagine being unironically this retarded

Don't get ahead of yourself, first we shall see Biden Kenobi put up a decent fight as his fans look on from afar.

Jo-Bi-Den Kenobi dies, Dantes....

It’s Princess AOC & Joe Kennedy-Skywalker that will ultimately defeat the evil empire.

Bernie Sanders already looks like Yoda.

This would be the Joe W@nker-Knobby whose first presidential bid was scuppered when he plagiarised a speech by Neil "Windbag on a Loop" Kinnock without admitting it (i.e.picks a nomark source to crib from AND gets caught doing so), would it?.

You might be taking my suggestion a little more serious than intended. 😉

“This is a very brilliant enemy. You know, it’s a brilliant enemy. They develop drugs like the antibiotics. You see it. Antibiotics used to solve every problem. Now one of the biggest problems the world has is the germ has gotten so brilliant that the antibiotic can’t keep up with it.
And they're constantly trying to come up with a new – people go to a hospital and they catch – they go for a heart operation – that's no problem, but they end up dying from – from problems. You know the problems I'm talking about. There's a whole genius to it.
We’re fighting – not only is it hidden, but it’s very smart. Okay? It’s invisible and it’s hidden, but it’s – it’s very smart.”

*sigh*

Did you ever see the old news videos where he was caught lying about his academic record ?

Hahaha comedy gold.

So they're saying the they going to enforce a 14day quarantine on anyone flying into here, what sort of bullshit is this? They're obviously not going to set up a load of quarantine centres, so when someone flies in, they're just going have to give 'their word' that they'll go and self quarantine?

Obviously we haven't had the full details, but the speculated idea is apparently that everyone has to state where they are going to be, whether it is their home address or hotel or whatever, and then they have to stay there for 14 days.

In theory people will be checked upon via phone calls and the odd visit, but this clearly is a bit of a big ask (though you'd expect most would comply, just in case).

I don't personally agree with this plan at all. I did see a suggestion that people could avoid it by being tested at the airport when they arrive, but haven't seen that mentioned since. The talk of testing people BEFORE they get on a plane that was around a few weeks ago seems to have gone away too.

Australia’s been doing that for a while now - significant fines if you break quarantine. The government learned pretty quickly from the Ruby Princess debacle.

It works.

I believe Australia has been using hotels that would otherwise be empty with the Government paying for all or part of it, if you can’t provide an address to isolate.

Test & Trace would identify if someone had broken quarantine and created an outbreak.

This is what we have to get used to now.

What, out of interest, is it you don’t agree with about the plan - the reasoning or the execution?

The execution. I cannot say whether it will work, or work to the extent that it is worthwhile in comparison with other measures (such as identifying who actually has it before they travel rather than just essentially assuming that everyone who has been on a plane has it).

If it is the only effective way of going forward though, then doing it now rather than a few months ago is a very poor way of going about things. The travel industry has taken an absolute battering already, unsurprisingly, and just when companies are trying to sort out how to get going again, this is just landed on them. Granted they would have at suffered anyway, and I get that everyone’s situation is uncertain, but this is one of those things where the government could have given at least a little more certainty and a little more warning.

So, an example. An Italian flies in and they say 'dear mr italian, you need to tell us exactly where your staying, and give us your word that you wont go out for 14days'. Mr italian says 'I'm going to be staying at xyz address and no no no I wont go out'.
The police do not have the ability to put surveillance on every single person that enters the country, they can't manage terrorists half the time.
And in the meantime, mr italian has 35 of his closest friends and family round, infects them and they infect loads of others.
Mental.

The only 3 options I can see, is
A quarantine centre of some sorts for 14days and lockdown enforced
They have the ability to do a test in a couple of hours at the airport, en masse, at off-board
They make the country of origin test everyone on the plane before takeoff and provide some sort of cert like a visa or they can't enter (not a temperature bollocks test, a a proper test)

China and many others used the same reasonably cheap technology used for house arrest. My state, tiny and weak, did a version of this that was reasonably effective and low cost.

Anyone entering they pulled over, got their address, explained the policy, or any house registered to someone living in another state got a visit from the national guard. They couldn't monitor their whereabouts, but they could run plates randomly as well as administer punishment if someone was reported. There was a high degree of compliance. I'm sure it wasn't anywhere near as good as a bracelet but much better than nothing is really helpful if you are fighting something that grows exponentially. Why not use every angle you can?

We're the only country in the developed world not doing this, because the strategy of herd immunity has never changed. They just rebranded it as blitz spirit.

I don't think you're still part of the developed world. Sorry.

I'm not one buying into the conspiracies of all this, but the world will never be the same again after this pandemic.

The legislation that will be passed, the technology that is being/will be developed will just give these governments greater control and methods of spying and snooping on everyone. It's already pretty bad as it is. It's just going to get worse.

Going into China now returning Chinese are quarantined in special hotels (at their own expense - around US$50 pr day per person) and are not permitted to leave their rooms. Expats are not permitted to enter at the moment.

Who cares. For 99.99% of people it has little effect on their lives. Going to be tough for criminals though ! Oh the conspiracy theorists will have a field day. We're going to need special laws to control them.

In Ireland we have a piece of paper you're allowed say no to.
We were told to self isolate for fourteen days when we came back into the country on March 17th which we fully complied with.
Like a lot of our restrictions, they are self regulated.
I am not sure how well this is complied with and perhaps in future we may have to be more aggressive in enforcing the regulation but hopefully there is still a large amount of people coming into the county who obey the current restriction.

Not really the point, is it? That's the rhetoric they roll out to get stuff like this passed, "if you've got nothing to hide then why do you care?"

We'll all be walking around with chips implanted in our brains soon enough, "for our own good".
