Chelsea v Liverpool - OFFICIAL MATCH THREAD

Status
Not open for further replies.
I knew the penalty decision would prove costly. No points today thanks to a spineless ref and his assistant.
Fair play to the lads, we played an alright game. Bennys miss just examplifies how toothless we were infront of goal. Torres should have scored aswell.
Ah well, we now really have to beat Utd at home. And before that an away match to Sunderland. We need to get back to winning ways quick.

the person I blame is masher for running into a crowded area instead of just fucking passing it.

we have played 4 good teams this season and been beaten every time
Mascherano made a mistake but to blame him for the goal is unfair.
I thought Masher had a great game ... that mistake aside. It was a terrible error to lose the ball in that situation when we were throwing men forward and he is the one supposed to be anchoring the midfield in case of a break away.
I agree. But some people blame him for the goal which is just unfair. There have been opportunities to prevent the goal after that mistake.

Deserved victory from Chelsea
I didn't think there was much in it tbh. Dull game, decided by a mistake. Yossi managed to create a few little sparks when he came on, but not enough. I would have liked to see a more positive third sub, but other than that I don't really think you can blame Benitez.

Positives? Skrtel played better than he has all season, and United dropped two points yesterday.

We need to beat United at Anfield now...
That's my take on it too... it had 0-0 written all over until Mascher's mistake.

Yeah, but football is football. You lose the ball sometimes. It's not like he lost it on the edge of the penalty area. It would have helped if he had a holding midfielder beside him who wasn't just a passenger and could dovetail with him whenever he goes forward.

fuck that I DO blame masher for the goal because we had a SHIT loads of options forwards most of our team was over the fucking halfway line, what he tried to do was fucking IDIOTIC. simply pass to the left or right but he takes on three players with virtually our entire team ahead of him.

this will get me flamed but I don't give a shit what anyone says, gerrard is not having a good season. maybe the court case is still playing on his mind. also lucas flatteres to decieve, masher is the holding midfielder, that being the case, lucas offers next to nothing going forwards I've not seen aqaulini but I doubt he'll be worse than lucas.
SG was crap again today.

Rumour has it that he's been carrying an injury for a while and will need an op during this int break.

Chelsea V Pool at the Bridge is always settled by who scores first, Masher despite being excellent made a mistake and that was that.

On another day we would've won 0-1, back to training and sort it out for the next game against a rejuvenated Sunderland away.

Chelsea and United will drop a fair amount of points this season.

Exaggerated rubbish. They might have been coming forward but most of them hadn't got there. Only Torres was in space ahead of him.

In the big matches when they're tight, the team that makes the fewest mistakes generally win. We made more mistakes than Chelsea and that's why they won.

1 Chelsea 8 12 21
2 Man Utd 8 11 19
3 Tottenham 8 7 16
4 Arsenal 7 14 15
5 Liverpool 8 10 15
6 Man City 6 7 15

Makes grim reading for us. If City win tomorrow, we'll be down to sixth - and both City and Arsenal will still have a game in hand over us.

We haven't had the easiest schedule, and we are only 8 games in. There's obvious reasons why I thought it'd be a struggle for us this season, however early on many seasons things look like they are going to be more competitive than normal, and it's not always true, we'll see when we've played twice the number of games if anyone successfully breaks away, and just how big the chasing pack is.

6 points behind the leaders isn't such a terrible position to be in at this stage of the season, but we've just used up another one of our lives.

Overall I think we've had a tougher opening to the season. Maybe when we get to 19 matches would be a fairer time for reflection. Still early doors ..... we are only 6 points off the top in what is going to be a much closer league this season. Considering we have Aquilani to come in and our form should pick up (although I thought we played very well today - two errors aside) then the league table should be ignored for now.

Yes, but when the opposition take the ball down the field immediately and score the winning goal in a very important game, it's a bit different ...

We have had it pretty easy compared to the mancs for example.

The top teams are gonna lose some games this season, but the problem is that we look like we are going to lose more than all the other top teams.

I doubt Aquilani is going to cut out all our defensive woes. We look suspect everytime there is a corner (I hope he helps out here....he is 6'1 isn't he?).

We need a major change in form. Usually we hit the rock bottom and Rally....but my fear is that, we may not have seen the worst of our team yet.

I didn't think we played that badly today but we didn't exactly play very well too and neither did Chelsea.

Of course if we are to win the league, we need to improve (and quickly) in these tighter games and we do have the players capable of playing much better than we are now.

the Mancs have had Birmingham, Burnley, Wigan, Arsenal (H), City (H), Spurs (A), Wolves, Stoke and Sunderland. 6 bankers and 2 out of 3 tougher matches at home. That's not any more difficult than ours.

JJ, Mascher (whom I love) had at least two easy options that he refused to take, turned himself into trouble, and needlessly lost posession. The goal WAS his fault.

That's exactly why we've got a great chance of winning the title this Season. Imagine when we start to play well.

Chelski lost at mighty Wigan last week and United has been extremely lucky so far not to have lost more points already. Arsenal is hopefully a bit to up and down so we'll definitely be upthere come May as I see it.
