Havertz - should now be a formality

Might look drooling but these 6 will need time to bed in, moreover, as Klopp would emphasise again and again, when you buy players you have to think about the impact on existing players. It might have a negative impact on morale.
Chelsea have an impatient owner, who will want the CL or PL title, so I reckon Lampard will be sacked by December

I’d be more worried if they had an anchelotti type of manager but yeah loads of pressure for fat Frank for playing real life fifa 21.

They're going to whallop plenty of sides, but I still think that defence is massively suspect, and they will slip up plenty. Lampard didn't have as great a season as people are making out and to me is still unproven.

Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech, and Havertz in the same team is definitely exciting, can't wait to see them all play together.

I reckon Silva is going to get made a show of.

That transfer ban turned out to be a blessing in disguise for them, didn't it?

Maybe. I think this is more Covid related though.

Literally every club will probably run into FFP difficulties so it will have to be suspended. What better time to capitalise than now ?

Sarr is going straight out on loan isn't he?

Pedro and Willian have left so they're replacing them. Their defence is shite so they're bringing in a couple there. I think they're doing well.

If they signed a keeper and a top, long-term cb they would have sorted out everything.

But as Rosco says, it seems a bit quiet for almost every club not owned by some shady billionaire.

Aren't most clubs owned by shady billionaires?

It is not just about the next season. Those signings along with players like Pulisic, they are setting themselves up for the next 4-6 years. Not blaming the owners or anything but we have majorly missed the boat on purchasing players to gradually transition to the next great LFC team under Klopp by not signing anyone significant this window.
We might be fine for next season barring injuries but the season after that we will start feeling the result of underinvestment.

Chelsea have a trigger happy owner who will sack managers at whim. He fired Sarri despite the man winning a European cup. I am guessing he will want instant results and that puts pressure on the team, which in turn then could implode. And when the next manager comes in and its another change of players and another transition period. Well, lets hops it goes that way.
With Saturday matches now available to broadcasters, with pubs and restaurants should do brisk business, so I don't see why there should be any compensation to Sky and BT?
Concerts and Cinemas are allowing people back so why is sporting events different? Apply two seater distance between people unless they're family.

People always go on about Abramovich being trigger happy but so what? It's delivered results.

They have a good group of young players now. If it doesn't come together under Lampard, it will under a different manager or the one after that. There is no good way to spin this... particularly given our lack of investment.

Yeah, I'm not one of those FSG bashers, and I understand the current economic climate and the fact that the model they use doesn't really give rise to excessive spending (I actually prefer to be run this way), but it really does feel like we're messing this up a bit.

I was worried last season when we didn't strengthen, but we know how that turned out, but I think doing it for two years on the bounce could be a big mistake.

But if there's no money, there's no money. What can you do?

What we normally do - sell someone like Salah or Mane and purchase 2 cracking younger players to replace them.

I think one gets sold at the end of this season to fund a replacement.

I think the squad is good enough as it is to win more trophies this season.

Another thread instantly becoming "FSG out, maybe?" discussion.

Back on topic, I think Chelsea may struggle this season if they replace too many players at once. Havertz is a great long-term signing, but he's not the finished article and I suspect no one knows quite which position he will play. I think Thiago Silva will give their back-line some much-needed leadership, Chilwell should be totally fine, but I have my doubts about Ziyech. If they added these players to build on top of the foundations they already had, I would be worried about them – but now there is talk of Kante, Jorginho and others leaving, that's not going to make them stronger. And they still don't have a goalkeeper.

Struggle because they've got great players ? I'd like that struggle. They will be Top 4 comfortably even if the team hasn't come together yet and even in one off games they will be dangerous if just a few of them spark. They will likely finish close to the winner without truly threatening. I can see them having a very good season across 4 competitions (¼ in the CL perhaps).

For me it's tightening up at the top. City will buy (maybe even Messi but I highly doubt it), Chelsea have compiled a strong squad and I thought United would get a couple of top players in, however they seem to be struggling to get people to move there, a lack of belief perhaps.

Liverpool & City neck and neck (without Messi, otherwise City ahead). Chelsea within 8-10 pts. United as it stands 10-15 pts back.

They are certainly building the spine of a title winning side. Its probably too soon to expect them to do it this year, unless we have a drop off in performance levels like City last season, but I would expect them to win the league in the next 3 years based on where us and City are now.

They’ve won what 4 titles in 15 years. Not the worst return.

Apparently Havertz will earn £310,000/week at Chelsea. This is far more than Salah and Mane, which means Covid or not, we were never going to compete for him, especially as he would not be an automatic starter in this team. I like Havertz a lot, but I'm fine with that.

Come to think of it, who is the biggest "bust" in premier league history?
I'm talking young player moving to a big team for big money, not someone like Torres who was great for us and wank for Chelsea?

Veron?

Wasn't that young was he?
It was a big money move though and he was a total bust wasn't he? Record fee, surely equivalent to a £100m+ today.

Wiki : he moved from Lazio to Manchester United on 12 July for a fee of £28.1 million on a five-year deal, the most expensive transfer in English football at that time (2001)

Depends if the new manager wants to persist with the youth.

I mean, look at who they've lost over the years? Salah, Lukaku, de bruyne, spent big bringing back matic and Luis.
