How is there so much emphasis on who plays RCB and who plays LCB......would this ever have been a thing in the 90s/00s?

Surely a CB is a CB.....you're still defending the central area of the pitch.

Post World Cup Konate has been well dodgy too
Don't agree with you here Jan.

Was in the top 3 performers at Wolves.

Him and Ali were only 2 players to come away with any credit at Brighton.

Brentford he he was pretty bad yes.

Putting your brain into gear might help here instead of just posting the first thing that comes into your head !

It really shouldn’t matter ultimately what blade of grass you cover Froggy, we’re not talking about a change of position here.

I would rather play Konate at RCB than anyone else at the moment. Matip is playing poorly; Gomez's form obviously has been rubbish but I thought he looked much better at LCB on tuesday; I'd play him there and Konate at RCB, which should provide better cover for Trent. The same midfield three as against Wolves, though Keita will probably be injured by then, in which case I'd play Milner there. And then Salah, Nunez and Gakpo up front.

not sure if Gakpo is ready for this. I’ve a feeling Klopp may start with Jones on the left. Isn’t that his preferred position?

Some CBs are left footed, some right footed, some grew up playing RCB or LCB and so it's more comfortable to play there, some find it easier to play in one position or the other (VvD LCB, Matip RCB, Gomez and Konate both RCB unless the situation dictates, Konate seems the most flexible), others may dovetail better with specific players and that's why they are played there - because they feel more comfortable that side and likely statistics prove that they perform better on that side. That's why we can't just say, Player X is a CB, and play him wherever.

I have us as most likely to lose, I dont thunk Chelsea are as bad as us despite being lower in the table. I think their players have energy but lack a cutting edge. We have nothing from our senior players, so given we are most likely to lose, I would actually play Badger instead of Henderson, and also bench Salah and give Elliot a start on that side. The big question for me is do we play Keita or Fabinho ? Thiago is a definite start mainly because if he has Badger with him, at least there is another baller he can trust. Henderson should be retired, has to be said now.

Gakpo was born more ready for this than Jones, who overall is turning into a major disappointment. Gakpo 100 times out of 100 over Jones for me.
Maybe. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see the major star in Curtis that some do, I just think it’s a little soon for Gakpo.
Mind you, he’s had a few bites at the cherry over the last few games.

Curtis Jones is as average as they come, fans holding onto that scouse sentimental hope that he'll come good for a few games.

The guy's 22 now he's not a kid anymore, he's not progressed even a tiny bit since he first broke on the scene other than the standard transition a teenager goes through to adulthood.

He's that player once on the ball (and that's rare because he goes missing for most spells) looks like he's about to do something outrageous and then does nothing.

I hold out hope for Jones. He's had a difficult time with niggling injuries over the last 24 months, but he's got enough technical ability for Klopp to make a decent CM of him yet. He needs to start getting some proper playing time and fast.

What if his name were Jamitis Leejonesino?

What? No I love English players. (I even love Mason Mount remember?)
I'm Asian so everyone's a fancy-dan foreigner to me.

He just doesn't do it for me. Not a team player.

I'm still holding out hope for Jones. He's very skilful, can pass, decent shot, strong, he's not slow either (worded carefully to avoid the Glock stopwatch argument). If he puts it all together he's the potential to be a great player. Consistency and injuries are a hard thing to overcome though.

Even if he doesn't achieve consistency he's a decent squaddie.

He's the exact kind of depth we need. Versatile. Irritates opposition fans with the way he looks.

It's all great

-------------------Ali
Trent--Matip---Konate---Robbo
-------------Fabinho
----Bajectic-------Thiago---
--Salah---------------------Gakpo
-----------------Nunez

It's likely Hendo starts, but I'd rather he didn't.

I'm nonplussed about Hendo or Fabinho starting. Fabs looked as sluggish as he has done when he came on against Wolves. But I reckon you need one of them as a cooler head, even if they are having rings run around them:

----------------Allison-----------------
Gomez--Matip--Konate--Robbo
---------------Fabinho------------
---------Bajcetic----Thiago-----
--Elliott-------Salah-----Nunez-

I don't know if fabs is the cooler head. Recently he seems happy to take a booking and have a moan.

I really don't want to see Trent not in the team, but I don't want to see him at right back ever again. If he plays in this and is the main culprit AGAIN, then Klopp only has himself to blame.

True that. There's no easy answer. The only logical one is give Fabinho a bit of help alongside him and hope that the things he's struggling to do, Stefan will be quick to react to (or mop up), while it would hopefully give us that defensive backbone again.

Klopp has to take some thoughts and encouragement from the performances midweek, otherwise, what's the point?

For me, i'd be bringing hendo back with stefan and thiago. Some athleticism and some youth. I worry Fabinho is too slow, and he was never one to press anyway.

I agree klopp needs to be looking at the midweek performances and seriously considering them

Yep, if Trent plays, we lose.

Tbh is mudryk is half as fast as they say, no matter who we play at RB will be rinsed
