We've spent £40m (Salah and Solanke) already. So who do we get, VvD or Kieta? Either of those two would take our spending above £100m, and then we still need a LB, possibly a striker plus a CM or CB depending what you choose initially as your prime target. Do you really think the signing one of the two £70m target would make us contenders?
Nomad's list gives us balance at least
Tierney c.£20m
Gibson c.£25m
Goretzka c.£25m
Lacazette c.£45m
And the players his chosen are quality
At this moment in time - whether we like it or not - it looks like striker isn't a priority, so let's forget about Lacazette; there are no credible links to a striker.
You seem fixated on this issue of budget, but you don't know what the budget is. If we are to believe media reports, then it was £150m before things kicked off 'THE BIGGEST LFC WARCHEST' etc. etc. We don't know whether this involves player sales or not though, right?
I think signing both would make us contenders, and I think that that is exactly what the club set out to do at the start of the summer. What's funny is that signing both may well cost us less than signing the players on your list above, and make us more successful.
Like it or not, we are not the club you think we are anymore. Look elsewhere on here, you'll see accounts posted from Rick Parry spreading the Alves budget thin and trying to be 'clever'. Look back over Rodgers' tenure and you'll see 33 players signed. Look back over Klopps' windows and you'll see no move for a LB when his first taget got away from him, or being content to be a man short in midfield for a term*. He's not going to spread his budget, he's going for quality over quantity and if we can't get that he's not got a long list of alternatives. We already have a Kjaer or a Gibson - he's called Dejan Lovren; let's sign somebody to replace him!
*this is based on the assumption that midfield targets last summer were Dahoud and Keita/Zielinski and Klopp was content to move Milner out of midfield. It looks like Gini was second choice to Dahoud, as we are back in for Keita this summer.
