Munich deserve it they were the better team.
Gustavo,Lahm and Ribery were all excellent throughout.

Madrid were rubbish. All they had was long ball to Ronaldo.

I thought Munich were excellent. Dortmund must be fucking amazing to be 6 points clear of these.

Shame Munich lacked a killer instinct tonight because they were well on top a lot of the time. I still think Madrid will do 'em at home but really hope I'm wrong. Madrid are really one of the most dislikeable teams I've seen for some time.

It was the best game of football all season.
The German club teams are always a joy to watch.

i only saw the last 25 mins or so but from that i thought bayern deserved to get the winner . And it's good to see this real team lose , i hate them so much . I don't even rate them as highly as real teams of the past but usually it seems most teams just role over for them .

And as usual mourinho looked to be having a right moan at the end . Christ he's a wanker and i dread the day he's back in english football and we have to listen to him again . Watch the novelty wear off after 15 mins . He's a specialist manager who goes into big clubs with big money and does a job then fucks off . He's obviously extremely good at that but i'll never fully respect that compared to managers who build teams and a long term legacy at a club or get results and achievements beyond the expected .

Great game - particularly the first half which was back and forward for the last 20 - 25 minutes.

Have to say that was the least clinical I've seen Bayern all season and they didn't have the threat through the middle; always looked like they'd have to create from outside. Ribery did very well first half though closed down more in the 2nd; Robben was invisible first half but then took advantage of more space in the 2nd. Lahm was just outstanding from start to finish; he's a legend for a truly huge club in European football.

The issue for Bayern is Schweinstagger; I know they keep winning games when he plays but leaving Muller out really hurt them in the middle. He doesn't score the long range screamers of Schweinstagger but he creates a threat like Lampard with his late runs and entry into the box. They didn't have it for the first hour and, when he came on, Mulluer seemed to try too hard to make the impact - like he was trying to make a case for the next match.

I know people thought Bayern needed a lead for the second leg but I think they've got a huge advantage. They've got so much pace our wide and, if Muller plays, a threat from midfield not to mention the best striker in Europe at the moment who had his worst game in months and still scored. Madrid hate the pressing game - they're all about the break and Bayern can afford to sit back and force them to play before hitting them with Ribery and Robben down the flanks on the break.

That's the first match Real have lost in Europe this season which says something. I think the 2nd leg will come down to the discipline Bayern can show. If they keep it tight for the first 30 minutes the crowd will force Madrid to take the game forward and that should be all Bayern need.

All that said Barca could stamp themselves as clear favourites in a few hours. One doubt has now come into my mind about Bayern winning the whole thing; I'm not sure they have the defensive discipline in front of their fans to hold out a team like Barca who will offer more threat coming forward than Real did.

I picked them to win the whole thing about 8 months ago and I still feel pretty confident they'll be on the pitch in Munich for the final but that's the toughest test they've faced so far and they didn't come through with flying colours at the back. Messi and co could cause some issues there.

Ribery is a tasteless prick the way he clutches his ancles and roll around as if he was shot everytime someone is close to him. I think Webb handled Ronaldo very well, but was fooled by Ribery.

Fucking thrilled for Bayern. I've wanted a German in our team for aaaaaaaages. Really hope they win the whole thing out. Muller has to play, somewhere. I like him running from deep for them and he's gonna continue to get better and better.

I haven't seen much of them this season being away, how is Kroos doing? He was a bit part player last season for them and the National team but he seems to cemented more of a starting role this season.

One thing I noticed about Bayern is that they were very reluctant to pass it about in midfield. More often than not the ball would find it's way back to the defence / goalkeeper and they'd then try and get it out wide again.

I'm not sure if this is a regular thing or a deliberate tactic last night. If it's the former than perhaps this is an area they could improve upon and add some variation in their play.

He was a prick but in a way I was glad Bayern had someone that could fight fire with fire seeing as Ronaldo and Di Maria were rolling around at every opportunity (Ronaldo in particular).

My favourite moment of the match was when Ronaldo was about half a second into some Michael Flatley dance with his legs to try and fool the defenders before he got clattered and the ball went out of play. The frustration on his face was visible and a delight to observe.

I won't hold myself up as an expert on Bayern but I touched on it in my post; they looked like they were desperate to get it wide at every opportunity rather than play through the middle. I haven't seen a lot of Schweinstagger cause he's been injured a bit this season but when Muller has played they've looked good going through the centre. His appointment to the bench really seemed to limit their attacking options in terms of where they attacked from. Ribery and Robben are always a dangerous duo out wide but they were closed down more effectively by Real and Bayern looked unwilling to go through the middle without Muller. I hope he's there in the second leg though I'm not sure who they'll leave out. Schweinstagger seems to be autmatic when fit but Muller should be there.

Yeah i believe Kroos is starting more and more games now . And he's yet another sign of how German football does things so much better than english...he was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen for a good 18 months to gain experience and prove he can cut it . Prem teams would never let a player go for that long , well we certainly don't .

yeah but from the last 30 mins or so i saw it looked like they were getting balls in from the wide positions quite successfully ....gomez is decent in the air and caused real trouble from crosses and finally getting onto one for the winner .

Can you play both Kroos and Muller?

I was assuming that Kroos was starting ahead of Muller and having not seen much of him before I was impressed. He's got very good balance and ability with the ball at his feet. Some of his passing was forced at times but I'm not sure if that was down to tactics of getting the ball forward as fast as possible or a young players decision making that will improve over time.

bayern looked pretty ordinary apart from their wide players. I was impressed that the entire eam worked for each and all seemed very capable on the ball.

real looked pretty ordinary to me as well. I actually think they could go out because BL are more than capable of kiling them on the counter attack.

I thought quite the opposite. Cracking game by two absolute top class footballing giants - the first half in particular was excellent. Bayern weren't at their best and it does, as I mentioned earlier, make me wonder. They feel the pressure of living up to their own exceptional standards in front of their own fans at times. They were very rarely in flow against Real but, in all honesty, they were playing against some of the best players in the world. Gomez had a bad night and still caused them loads of trouble; and then the wide players you mention must include Lahm cause he was immense. They've got about the best keeper in the world just now; all that was missing was their midfield operating properly.

For Keni; yeah, you can play Kroos and Muller together. Kroos generally plays deeper than Muller who is as likely to split the defense with a pass as be the one on the end of a loose ball or a cut back to put it away. I honestly think it seems a little like Real and Raul in that Schweinstagger doesn't really add value to them at this point but is picked when available. If they play Muller and Kroos I think that will crush the life out of Real; Alonso and co struggled as it was but were still in the game. I think Muller and the movement he brings would have proved - or will prove - too much for Madrid to contain.

That said, Madrid have already shown they have the quality to worry Munich at the back. Tremendously intriguing 2nd leg.

Do you not think it would leave the midfield a little exposed?

Schweinstieger is surely there to provide a bit more steel and help Gustavo out.

I definately liked how quickly BM moved the move from front to back because their centre backs were so accomplished on the ball.
very organised, very solid and great ability on the ball. there is no reason why we can't become what BL are right now in the space of no more than two years. it's certainly more achieveable than becoming what barca are, imho that would take at least 5 years.

I think the idea of having him in the team provides more steel than the reality; though I admit that may just be me.

He plays too far forward IMO to provide the defensive steel necessary but doesn't provide the movement required by Lahm, Ribery and Robben to provide the outlet.

Bayern playing at their best don't need to provide too much defensive protection; no doubt that need increases as the opposition improves but I think it's almost a case of who blinks first in this regard. If they look to provide that defensive protection they'll find it's necessary.

Muller and Kroos cause too many problems for the opposition to be worried about their own solidity.
