I like the look of Schlotterbeck at Dortmund but they only just signed him last summer so maybe one for down the line.

You think with the midfield that needs replacing that we'll be spending on a CB this Summer? Unless we sell / let go two of Phillips, Matip and Gomez (and I doubt we will - probably Phillips) then we won't be in the market for a starting CB.
Maybe a youngster, or some relatively unknown from South America or a minor European team, if our current crop haven't progressed enough. But there's no way in hell we'll be in for the likes of Gvardiol, in the 80-100m bracket.

It's likely this is the 2024/5 project.

I agree but when a good player becomes available in unforseen circumstances you can get a deal. Southampton will have a fire sale when they get relegated and Bella Kotchap will be available at a reasonable fee

It would be nice to finally sign someone from Southampton for a reasonable fee.

Matip is out of contract in 2024, and would be yet another player we'd allow to leave on a free. It makes no sense.

Matip is declining and his health is unreliable. Sell him for whatever 5-10 million we can get for him. Also sell Big Nat for the 10-12 million offers we were getting for him.

This would be a good summer to get a new CB, ideally a left-sided CB, because we need an alternative for van Dijk.

Colwill looks good. I also like the look of that Goncalo Ignacio at Sporting.

I've said I can't see us signing a top level / starting CB this Summer with our priorities in midfield. However maybe there would be enough left over for a younger CB that won't cost a lot, for the future (the new Konate).

Agreed about letting Matip go.

We need an athletic centre half that can cover both sides since Konate's fitness is unreliable too. With Trent's new position, this has taken on a greater urgency.

I still find it hard to believe we'll be as ruthless we need to be in the summer.

I can imagine us keeping players on the basis that it's pragmatic and that we are unable to replace everyone in one summer.

Agree. It'll be Klopp giving 20 minute goodbye hugs at 23:45 to delay signatures

Should we sell or keep Gomez? On paper his CV is exactly what we need - a CB who is also comfortable (possibly better) at RB. But will he be able to recover his confidence and form or is it better to cash in and buy someone else?

How many of the current players you DON’T want to sell?
Sack them all.

Keep Klopp.

Serious answer

Ali
Kevin
Trent
Ib
Virgil
Robbo
Tsimikas
Badger
Thiago (no bloody point selling when we may as well try a season out of him and bed in yet another midfielder save that for 2024)
Diaz
Jota
Gakpoo
Donkey

That’s the size of our issue by not moving shite on.

Ndicka & Rabiot on free's. Mount for 50m if Chelsea don't budge then Gallagher for 40m.

& that'll be it. The FSG way.

I don't think the fax machines at Anfield can handle the stress of transfer of three CM and two defenders.

Juve over the last few years tried the approach of assembling their midfield out of free/cheap transfers - Rabiot, Arthur, Can, Wilshere, Pogba, Zakaria. Injury-prone players, misfits, self-centered players purposely running down their contracts at previous clubs. Just hoping that with a bit of coaching magic, a cohesive midfield would emerge out of a collection of spare parts.

It was a complete disaster and a warning to others not to emulate this approach.

Was it just the midfield? Just curios as I dont have much idea about their transfers? I thought it was their overall transfer strategy. Ronaldo, Dani Alves, Anelka, Khedira, Llorente,
