Cassano

His wife is pregnant and due in April, he's not coming to England, he doesn't even want to leave Genoa.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been boosted by the news Italy striker Antonio Cassano will not be welcomed back by Sampdoria after a spat with their president.

After refusing to attend an awards ceremony, Cassano had a blazing row with president Riccardo Garrone, which led to ‘the jewel of Old Bari’ being frozen out of the Genoa-based club.

Now, according to Sky Sports, Sampdoria have asked the Italian league authorities for consent to annul his contract – paving the way for a sensational free transfer elsewhere.

Garrone said: “Obviously Cassano is the best and without him, our team loses a lot. But we will move forward with our decision.â€

And the Premier League is a distinct possibility with Liverpool and big-spending Manchester City both interested, but they will face strong competition from Italian side Fiorentina.

Liverpool are currently looking for big name signings, particularly up front, and manager Roy Hodgson has recently stated he is looking for £20 million players to bring to Anfield.

Although Cassano could be available for nothing, he certainly fits the bill of a world class striker and would complement Fernando Torres if he made the move to Liverpool.

Furthermore, Manchester City are always on the lookout to bring the best players in the world to Eastlands and, with the FIFA rules on financial fair play coming in soon, the Citizens will be looking for cheaper players to bring to the club.

Didn't someone post an article about taking on players with 'issues' and helping them solve them?

Do it! Do it!

I think it was said to be one of the elements in this "sabermetrics" approach beloved of NESV. If that's right, this could indeed be a signing they'd look at.

Whether we'd actually manage to resolve this guy's issues, when they're of such long standing, is an open question. And if we don't, we could be buying ourselves a whole pack of trouble if we do sign the guy.

Seriously?

The guy is despicable.

great talent...

i cant believe what a nutta he is though..

almost everybody he has ever come across hates his guts... There is more to him than simply being misunderstood.

Things are seemingly patched up but anything can still happen.

The tribunal said that Sampdoria were not allowed to terminate his contract for the reasons provided.

So the possibility of him being re-introduced to the squad remains - could be just the injection they need given they are playing Genoa on the weekend.

Also there are strong rumours Milan are chasing him with rumours of a 3.5M Euros per season deal to be on the cards.

What a side Allegri is now assembling at Milan.

Robinho, Ibra, Pato, Ronaldinho, Boateng, and now Cassano possibly- brilliant attacking options.

When things are going well they will be immense.. but as soon as things start going wrong they will all turn on each other...

I think appointing Massimiliano Allegri is the best thing to happen to Milan in a long long time.

The guy is a top class manager - as outlined by him winning Serie A Manager of the Year back to back while he was manager of Cagliari... he won it last he won it even though Mourinho did the treble, so that speaks volumes about the guy.

He's picking a side that suits Milan best, not what suits Berlusconi best.

Very impressed in the way he has managed to control a club like Milan at its players, considering he wasn't a big name manager when appointed.

which means, bye bye ronaldinho ... back to brazil?

Yep Gremio by all accounts.

• Milan continue to work towards signing Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria – Adriano Galliani has agreed the terms of a theoretical contract with the player's agent Beppe Bozzo, but the one item still to be resolved is that of who will pay the €5m due to Real Madrid when he moves on. Galliani's latest proposal is that Milan, Samp and the player himself each pay one third of the cost.

Gotta hand it to Milan, they know how to do the business.

Robinho on loan
Ibra on loan

... both with cut price tags if they wish to make it permanent.

Ronaldinho gone - but a better player in Cassano brought in.

the one item still to be resolved is that of who will pay the €5m due to Real Madrid when he moves on

It should be Sampdoria who pay the fee because the agreement was that if they sold Cassano before his contract expired, they would have to pay Madrid 5M.

Although would be no surprise if Milan financially aid Sampdoria... they won't let this deal fall through over a 5M fee lol.

Controversial striker Antonio Cassano has promised AC Milan that he will not betray the Italian giant, insisting that if he fails at the San Siro he deserves to be locked-up.

The former Real Madrid, Roma and Sampdoria star has already made his mark with Milan by coming off the bench on his debut last week and setting up the winner in a 1-0 victory over Cagliari.

Now the 28-year-old realises Milan will be his last chance to show his true talents.

"If I can't succeed here, then I am really only good for the mental asylum. After all the bulls**t I have caused, this is my last chance not to betray those who have believed in me," he said.

"I am 100 percent certain that I will not make any more mistakes."

"There have been mistakes ... but I don't regret anything. But now, I have to change. I want to win and here that is all that matters. Here the fines (for indiscipline) are really big."

Cassano also pledged to improve his work rate for Milan which went into this weekend's programme with a four-point lead at the top of Serie A.

"I have never been a big worker on my physical shape, but when I see players like Nesta, Gattuso, Ibrahimovic, Seedorf, who have won a lot ... it's mad the way they work, but why shouldn't I do the same.

"I am working like a dog, but I am happy."

He has said stuff like this before...

He is similar to any long term drug user.. but his poison is drama.

I like to see players given second chances.. but he is on his 200th... if he doesnt cause any problems at Milan ill be shocked.. but it would be great to see him play his football week in and week out without 'personal problems' getting in the way.
