Carroll - 15m fee agreed

Cavani moved to Napoli 6 months before we bought Carroll.
God that would have been an excellent signing if he was available. Napoli paid 10-15 mill or something.

City signed Aguero for roughly the same amount we paid for Carroll within a few days of each other.
Sigh.

Shelvey & Suso going out on loan, along with Assadi leaving open up space that would need to be filled by 2 attacking signings.... or Downing staying.

Given that all three of them rarely played in the 2nd half of the season and that we have no midweek European games, I doubt we'll back fill them with signings.

For Suso, there's Teixeira coming through who will get the cup game minutes.
For Shelvey, he's already the odd man out in the couple of positions he plays - at CM, he's competing with Gerrard, Allen and Henderson; at AM / support striker, he's coming up against Coutinho and possibly Suarez. So these spots are already pretty crowded (with Teixeira also possibly playing here in cup games).
For Assaidi, there's Sterling and Borini at LF, and possibly Ibe in the cups as well; and Downing if we get an upgrade at RF which frees him to backup both LF and RF spots.

I'd think we'll be getting a player on the right who is ready to start and make a significant impact, pushing the likes of Downing out onto the bench. Or at least I hope to see that because that's an area we can really upgrade on, even with his improvement.

If Gerrard's fit, Henderson and Allen may even have a fair bit of bench time for a start, as I can see us playing with Sturridge, Coutinho, Suarez, <new RF> backed up by Gerrard and Lucas behind them. So I think we'll see a bench like: Jones, Kelly, Skrtel / Wisdom, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Borini in the league.

Two weeks of solid drinking.

Will he put weight on after that? Imagine he comes back a fat bastard and they change their minds.

Andy Carroll looks set to turn down a permanent £15 million move to West Ham after telling Liverpool he will fight for his place at Anfield, Goal understands.

The 24-year-old striker is ready to accept a role as a bit-part player at Liverpool next season in order to force his way into the side following a successful loan spell at Upton Park.

West Ham agreed a £15m deal with the Reds last week after Carroll scored seven goals while on loan in east London, but he is unsure about a move as he focuses on re-establishing himself at Anfield and earning a place in England's World Cup squad.

"Things haven't worked out for Andy at Liverpool but he went there with high hopes and isn't ready to throw in the towel just yet," a source told Goal.

"He enjoyed his time with West Ham but feels he has unfinished business at Anfield."

😕

I wish we can get our business done quickly like those clubs in the official transfer thread.

Only reason he might stay is cos Rodgers told him he will consider him. That's not happening so I would believe the story is shit.

I'm always pleased to hear of players wanting to prove themselves when managers aren't keen on them, it's easier to throw in the towel, particularly when there's another club offering the same kind of big time money.

But in Carroll's case it feels half hearted. He HAS to change his life style if he wants to even make the bench. It's one thing to turn up to training, work really hard, and not complain when not chosen on match day. It's a whole other thing to completely change the way you live life. Not sure he has it in him.

Andy won't be successful at Liverpool and sadly is a waste of money. 15M represents good business for us.

I'm telling you - the only way to get rid of the fucker is to release a statement saying we're in negotiations to sell him to Sunderland & watch him squirm.

I wonder whether this is a way of putting pressure on us to let him go back to the Toon for less than the £15 mill.West Ham are willing to pay.

Can we not threaten to destroy the Newcastle brown ale brewery if he refuses to go?

I thought west ham already paid some of their players shitloads?

I doubt it. They did for Kieron Dyer and Parker before Gold and Sullivan took over, there were details leaked in 2010.

I'd be surprised if there's many of them on over 40k a week at West Ham.

And they've no reason to offer Andy Carroll any more than that. Rodgers gave away whatever leverage we had.

Except they paid all his wages last season ( 70k a week ) and gave us 2 million for the privilege. They want him we don't - his agent wants a golden goodbye - he can fuck right off.

He's only entitled to a pay off if his wages are less at the new club.

Yup. He would have to show he'd suffer some loss by the contract ending early to have an entitlement to a pay off

In this case we're on the hook for 70k until 2016, if West Ham offer him less than that he's entitled to look for the difference in wages between now and 2016 from us. How much of it he gets depends on negotiations between him and us, which I'd guess is what's going on now - hence the I'll fight for my place nonsense which is clearly aimed as a threat at the club who want to get rid.
