Can we win the title ?

See, I'd have said that at half-time in Istanbul. Will we win the title? Probably not. *Can* we win it? You're darn tootin'.

Chelsea and Arsenal will be the teams to beat at the top imho. I really dont know what to make of Man City, but they're crazy if they dont sign a quality CB.
Utd could be up there aswell based on tradition and winning culture alone. The manager doesnt have any but a defensive set up with RVP/Rooney on top will get them a lot of points.
Spurs baffles me a bit tbh. I thought they would be much better. They could obviously improve but they struggle to turn posession into goals. They lack the directness and raw pace/power from Bale.
Paulinho has been great, the rest meh. Thats a lot of money in meh so far.
They'll be around 4th regardless though.
Soton will fade away.

In my opinion this season winner will probably be with a very low points total.

Yeah yeah yeah, you know what I mean.

Utd won the league in 96/97 with 75 points (which is the lowest point total in the EPL history). I think you can win the league with 78/80 points or so this season.

Depends on what happens in January. As it stands, I don't think so. The midfield isn't strong enough to pick up enough points against the better sides.
Another way of looking at it though.............United's midfield isn't strong enough either, Arsenal aren't strong enough up front or in the full back positions (i.e cover for injuries/loss of form) and City aren't strong enough in defence, goalie and wide players.

Chelsea have plenty of strength all over but there seems to be some serious transitional issues with Mourinho going back.

There are reasons why all the top 6 might not win the league this season so...................who knows.

I'm just loving the fact that we are approaching Christmas and are still able to ask this question. The answer will never be cut or dry (and it would be boring if it was), but WE'RE BLOODY UP THERE!!

There's a better chance of Ryan getting married in the same year as Ross gets into a serious relationship that keeps him off SCM for over 2 months.

We will never have a better chance than this season to win the Premier League & establish Liverpool as a top, top, top, top club.

Confidence & belief are key.

If we can do the business over Xmas then we can do this.

The owners must do everything they can to support the squad in January.
We had a better chance in '09. Top around Christmas and all the top teams were stumbling like drunks. Then cam the Jan transfer window, we fell off the pace for a couple of months before making a charge. That was our best ever chance.

I think the Chavs and City will come into their own after the new year.

Not saying you're wrong there, Wiz, but that last bit's based on what? Genuine question - I'm intrigued by the precise timing you ascribe to it.

I still make City favourites, they are unreal at home but just havent got it together away from home yet. I think thats largely due to Pelegrini expecting it to be like Spain where teams dont bother against Real/Barca as they know they are getting a hiding, City are the only team I can see putting a run together from the New Year towards the end of the season that takes them clear of the chasing pack. If anybody else is going to win it, its going to be a tight scrappy affair.

I think this season is too soon for us unfortunately as its a great opportunity, our only realistic chance is to smash the small teams and hang in there over Christmas nicking a couple of points from our horrible Dec fixture list. If we are still top 3 in Jan then its possible the board may be persuaded to back Rodgers and double down in an attempt to win it this year. We would probably need two midfielders and a striker to have a chance as our current squad isnt good enough to win it.

Id take 4th if it was offered now

Nobody hence why I did not mention them !

This thread is about winning the title so I mentioned city and utd who were early season favourites.

Yes but that is conveniently forgetting that Suarez did it on his own initially and that Sturridge (and LFC) performed without Suarez at the start of the season. I prefer having the two in the team but it's not like we can't still win games without one of them.

City are missing Kompany badly. If he comes back they'll start doing better away from home

Seriously? What would it take for you not to do so? We have had a very very good start to the season points wise that gives us a great platform to stay in the hunt come Jan and get the board to back us now to push on and challenge for the second half of the season.

I definitely wouldn't take 4th now, this is one of the best opportunities we have had for a long time to mount a challenge.

I'd take 4th. No fucking sweat.

We need to establish ourselves again, and Europe does that. I'd take 4th like a motherfucker

In a year where we have the 2 best strikers in the league? In a year when 2 of the previous top 4 sit out of it after a quarter of the season played? In a year where one of our strikers has scored more goals himself than what one of our rivals has done all told, so far?

Fuck that noise, I'd keep plugging away for 1st/2nd in May myself.

4th would tempt me, but on balance I'd say no. Even getting 3rd would be worth shooting for financially, and I definitely think that's within our reach.

I'm just enjoying playing decent footy occasionally & winning matches more often than not.

It's a nice feeling to have again.

It's quite possibly to any in this squads development to expect a title challenge, but I won't rule it out completely, I'll just enjoy the ride.
