Kuyt has the touch of a troll these days. The sooner we get someone else in for that RW spot the better.
You and I both know Kuyt has that position sewn up for the foreseeable.

I'm not so sure ..... maybe, hopefully, *prays*, that is why we are in for Rodriguez.

Souness' last straw was in the FA Cup.

Rafa's won't be sadly.
Wouldn't it be rather stupid to sack him now having just won two Premiership-games on the run?

Yes it would.

We are probably going to progress in the Cup anyways.

All that matters is the Spurs-game, another win and we'll be closing in on the top.

That game was so good I fell asleep.

To be fair, I'm ill but from what I did see it appears that falling asleep was a good thing.

RAFA'S COMMENTS

Rafael Benitez admitted he was relieved to get the chance to play again in the FA Cup after Reading gave Liverpool a scare at the Madejski Stadium.

Steven Gerrard's cross-turned-shot earned the Reds a third round replay with a 1-1 draw after the Championship side had taken the lead from a set-play.

"I am disappointed because we didn't want to play more games but it was a tough game," Benitez told his post-match press conference.

"We have another chance at Anfield and hopefully we can play a little bit better.

"You could see it was a difficult game. They were pushing and working very hard from the beginning until the end, so we had to do our job.

"When we conceded, we knew it would be more difficult, but after we scored we had some chances, and they did too.

"They played really well. To play Liverpool live on television was a massive boost for them and they did really well.

"Credit to them but we are still in the competition and to play again at Anfield will hopefully be good for us.

"I thought we had some good movements and some bad movements, but credit to them as they worked so hard. It was difficult and also the pitch didn't help the game."

The boss reiterated his desire to help Liverpool go all the way to Wembley in a competition the Reds last won in 2006.

"We have two clear chances to win trophies with the Europa League and FA Cup," he added.

"We will try to do our best in both and also keep improving in the league. The FA Cup is a really important competition for us as our club wants to win trophies."

Meanwhile, Benitez was quizzed about Ryan Babel's future after the Dutchman was an unused substitute.

The boss responded: "We were thinking about using him, but the game was very close and they are very dangerous from set pieces.

"He has to work hard for us. He's our player and he will have his chances. At this moment we are not trying to sell him."

The manager was also asked about rumours linking Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy with the Reds.

"We are not talking about players but we are not trying so it will be very difficult," he said.

Questioned about other potential targets, Benitez added: "We are working hard. We have had some good conversations with some of them but my concern now is to have good conversation with my players."

Kuyt/Aurelio on the wing is what makes the team poor. Torres and N'gog aren't an ideal pairing either

we badly need some pace and creativity but i dont know if Benitez will ever drop one of his favourites which makes it all the more frustrating we have a left back on the left wing

I would've liked to see Babel given a go but both fullbacks needed protection so I can kinda understand why he didn't bring him on. I can also understand why Aquilani came on - but he was shit. In retrospect, maybe Babel for N'Gog might have been better.

I thought Reading played really well.
We didn't
Is right, mcamuff raped insua most of the match and once again we looked shite apart from the end of the first half.

Im praying that Aquilani isnt a lemon, he seems to want at least an hour to make every single pass, kuyt was pretty busy unfortunately he was busy being gash... we did have by far the better chances but nonetheless even though they were playing out of there skins we should be beating Reading, they definitely deserved at least a draw.

Its a strange one it really is we just completely lack any confidence whatsoever.

The break towards the end where he kicked it ahead... straight to a Reading player... made me want to carry my TV to Reading and smash it over his head.

I honestly don't know why I'm so angry given that we've been more or less watching the same performance since July. This must be the last straw.

Thank you Keni. I really needed a good laugh after watching that shite, and that just gave me a good laugh.

I'm a bit worried that even Brendan is now on Kuyt's case ... Oh well, another 'non-loss' shows how unimportant Mascherano is!

Huh?

This team is fucked.

Why the fuck is a cronically slow leftback our best option for the left mid after five years to sort it out?

Dirk is a centre forward without the skill, touch, pace or guile to play right side of midfield.

Insua would not get into most championship sides, Lucas would also be dominated in the championship.

N'gog does not have the quality to play for Liverpool, how did we come to accept such mediocrity?

It pisses me off that we have 3 of the best players in the world, surrounded by players most of whom are not good enough to play mid table premiership football. Sorry.

Good post, depressing but very accurate.

To be honest I can't say darby deserved a 6 if so many normal first teamers were below 5. If johnson played today and had the game darby had he'd get fuck all points for effort and probably (if the rest of the first team are being rated so harshly) a 4 for not protecting his zone for the goal. But shur it doesn't work like that does if!!

I know what you're saying Oncy, but after reading that little list and finding myself wanting (or would seeing them as an upgrade at the very least) a few of those players, I am still pretty depressed. All teams have mediocrity but it doesn't bring them down like us. Darren Fletcher, for example, is what makes that midfield of UTDs very often (forgetting Rooney when he get's shifted out there), could you ever imagine Lucas lifting us out the shit?

Out of that list you named, only O'shea is a first teamer.. and if he is mediocre, then the likes of Insua and Lucas are shite.

Also Dirk Kuyt and Riera are hardly ever 'brilliant'. They are our mediocre players. On the same level as an O'Shea/Eboue.. Riera has a competent first touch and good technique but lacks speed in both legs and mind to be a top player. Dirk Kuyt is just a poor footballer, a failed forward, who is all guts and effort but wouldn't get a sniff in midfield at any other top side in Europe. Watching the ball constantly bounce off him yesterday confirmed to me that I actually have better technique than him, and I only play football once every fortnight. It's very disturbing to me, that a professional can train 5 days a week and not have the ability to control a ball.

Once we get a good LB (even a competent one like O'shea who isn't getting raped by Championship wingers) and 2 good wide midfielders (Rieira has enough about him to be rotated), I convinced we'll see an upturn in the way we play. In my mind, part of the reason we hoof so much, and ask Fernando to chase the ball like a dog, is because our defence and midfield inparticular lack the pace, technique, movement and guile to play our way through teams. When was the last time you saw Kuyt play a killer through ball? Or beat a man? Hence everything is just so slow and static.. and eventually we're forced to go long once the other team shuffles across to cover our sideways passing.

I think thats what makes it so frustrating. The team is weaker than the sum of its parts.

But things can change quickly in football. A decent LB and winger would make this a much better side.
