I get that, but I think they'll be looking at the Mbappe deal and thinking they'll have some of that please and it comes with a huge risk. Emre Can was lucky the injury he got in the last 6 months with us wasn't serious. He's not been anything like the same player since, but I think a significant portion of that is the impact Klopp has on getting players to raise their game.Personality I just think it's something fans and clubs get used to. Fans will always have a bias to power remaining with their clubs, but we have to accept that simply honouring the contract and playing with everything until the end is worthy of some respect.
I just can't really see a shift happening back to the was considered normal. Erikksen died on a football pitch and is now attracting interest from all over, players are extending their careers due to the advancement of medical care, nutrition, and that combined with he reduced physicality of the game and better pitches and the risk of that career ending injury just isn't what it used to be.
It feels like a new landscape era in many ways.
It'll be interesting if FIFA's proposed changes to agent fees come in (cap of 6% of player's wages or 10% of transfer fee), because the caps will mean it's more beneficial for agents to move their players on for decent fees (acting for the selling club) whilst they're in contract, but the players will want to go on a free and get the bigger wages (with agents "only" getting a 6% cut).
And when we talk about "player power", we're really talking about agent power.
