the playing people out of position is the same as the zonal marking arguement. stop looking at one game and look at the course of the entire season. over a SEASON will we conceed less goals, over a SEASON with using people out of position gleen us more points. for the record kuyt is being played 'out of position'

Stop turning it into a Rafa thread.

I've made one for you, so knock yourself out.
stop blaming me for hijacking threads, if people are going to bring up rafa and take a dig then I'm going to attempt to defend him (rafa).
Then you know where to do it, it's much easier for you that way.

Roy was supposed to have a meeting with Henry yesterday. I havent seen him gabbling about how much the new owners respect and back him yet. And today he said he will field a strong team home to Napoli.

Awaiting his pre-match press conference, but if he doesnt go on about himself and his well earned respect from everyone. it might be a sign that Henry have turned on the heat a little bit??

It appears the approach to sport by John Henry ie buying young under valued talent, now backed up by the appointment of Comolli is quite at odds with the preference for more senior experienced players that Roy favours.

Is it possible for an old dog to learn new tricks?

I think Commoli's appointment definitely heralds the end of Hodgson. When, I'm not sure, but if part of Commoli's job description is to find a brilliant young coach, then it's fair to say that Roy's on borrowed time.

Yes, that's the way I see it too.

But it's possibly that it's not the end that we're normally thinking of.

The reason why I no longer think it's a certainty that he'll get the chop is because of the comments about Henry and NESV in the Comolli thread. It's very possible that Henry would be perfectly content to let Hodgson stay as a manager with very little authority in transfers, prospects or even tactics whilst he builds his management team.

To be very honet, no top manager would like the kind of ownership interference we're seeing (for very long anyway).

...which is why there are IMO grounds for hope that Bunny's on to something, because Henry will surely want a highly promising manager at the very least, and I don't think such a man would find such a high degree of interference acceptable either.

Isn't that how SPanish clubs are run?

Italian clubs and even French/German clubs too. And the so called Directors of Football in these countries normally last much longer than managers at the club. Most of the time, they play a role in the appointment of manager too.

Liverpool's Roy Hodgson apologises to Rafael Benitez

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has apologised to Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez for comments about the Spaniard's reign at Anfield.

Hodgson criticised the "expensive failures" he inherited in the squad with Benitez responding by telling him to concentrate on doing his job.

"If I upset him by saying something which I didn't mean to be critical then I'd happily apologise."

"There was never any intention to do that," he added.

Former Fulham boss Hodgson replaced Benitez this summer when the Spaniard left Anfield after six years and took charge of the Italian European champions.

However, Hodgson insisted he was not looking to prolong their dispute.

"As far as I am concerned I work at Liverpool and do my best for Liverpool and he will work at Inter and do his best for Inter," he said.

"I have no comments to make about other people's opinions - I'll allow them to make them and in this case I'll accept them if that's what they want to be."

Did it get dissected and ripped to shreds by the usual suspects, as per?
Everything is now dissected, analysed, instant impressions taken.

Even a new recruit in the backroom staff is greeted with great cynicism and low expectations.

New owners go unthanked for repaying our debts and their future plans and motives questioned, earn our trust we say. It's the new way.

No surprise that petty points scoring and bickering extends to current and former Managers.

The appointment of Comolli definately signals the begining of the end for Roy. It could be a case of the identified manager not being available as yet. That being the case then patience is the key. Roy is making a point of how he is still in charge. i doubt that's the case.

It's perfectly sensible. We don't know how good they will be as owners yet.

As for cyniscism and low expectations, well, look at who our fucking manager is. Look where we are in the league. Look at our summer acquisitions.

That sounds to me like someone had a word in Roys ear and him to be a bit more sensible in the press. We may well be hearing a little less of his awful press statements. Hopefully anyway.

Seriously - if we lose to Chelsea (a strong possibility) he has to go. How much fucking longer will he get?

That was said before the games against Blackpool and Everton. Do you think a loss against the reigning champions and current clear league leaders will be the clincher?
