Brighton v Liverpool Match Thread

It was a great victory considering the makeshift defence but I would rather that Coutinho does not score or be the great provider he was today. - we don't want great things from players that are looking to go out. We have 3 goals in today's game from want away players - I don't think that is a great thing at all.65% of me thinks they should rot or be used sparingly.

MORON

I Would rather Win the CL and it's more likely with him in top form

I don't quite know how Chris Hughton, journeyman player, journeyman manager, suddenly got redescribed as a paragon of decency, kindness and socialism, but it's laughable. Apparently he refused to shake Klopp's hand at FT, AND gave him a lecture, because he felt Klopp celebrated 'offensively' when we scored. Someone should take that impersonation of a vertical cigarette and give him a slap, the daft twat.

Ian Wright was a bit unpleasant about it on MOTD saying that after scoring 4 or so people get tired of his grinning and gurning.

How fucking ridiculous.

Only a man who had been managed by the perpetually scowling Wenger could try to justify the argument that someone should look less pleased when the team they are in charge of is winning well.

If he were jumping about in front of the opposition bench whilst pointing at them & laughing, I'd agree, but he's just fucking celebrating.

Klopp took a gamble yesterday with that side & the way he set the side up, a pretty big gamble, & it paid off big time. He has every right to show how happy he is.

Hughton hasn't seen his side concede more than 2 all season. Against us he has seen his side get eviscerated and has had to watch his opposite number take huge grinning delight in every goal. I'm sure he'll reflect on it and realise he has been a tit. He doesn't seem like a bad sort.

Quite. If it were the other way around, I'm sure people would be saying stuff like "just look at how happy Chris is". It's bollocks. So you're not allowed to celebrate now? I don't remember anyone saying it against City and Spurs when they were tonking us, I'm sure their managers celebrated their 4th goals, and I don't remember thick pundits coming out and criciticising them for it. That's all part and parcel of the game, since year dot.

Klopp did make a big gamble, but I guess he thought Brighton didn't have enough to hurt us and that if we overloaded the team with technical players, it'd pay off and we'd be too much for them. He deserves huge praise for pulling it off so impressively, we only conceded because of a ridiculous referee decision.

Exactly. He ran around like a headless chicken every time he scored. Since then he continues to babble excitedly every time he appears. Irony isn't in his vocabulary.

Does he have a vocabulary? It's like he watched Dumb and Dumber on repeat and couldn't decide which one he wanted to be.

How did Robertson play yesterday? I was at a family thing so only saw the highlights later on.

He was a willing runner as usual but looked a little tentative. He didn't have much to do in defence and wasn't too adventurous in attack. I'll give him a 6, nothing for Moreno to worry about.

Klopp's changed the way we're set up recently though and the left fullback particularly has played more as a flat fullback than we normally see. I don't know about yesterday with him playing a triangle three in the centre of defense, but it's what's served us well defensively in the last few games, not having the fullbacks going gung-ho and leaving us overexposed.

It's only one game. He looked impressive earlier in the season and Moreno showed he still has a horrendous moment or two in him per game, over the last few outings.

Yeah it's only 1 game and he didn't play for awhile so I'm sure he will get another chance soon.

And he must have felt totally confused when he went backwards and it was Gini he was looking at.

Listen to the other 35% then. If they end up going, good displays meanwhile keep their fees high. If they end up staying - and that seems to be more likely nowadays than it used to be - we get the points they help us to win. As long as they're on the books we should use them in the way that suits LFC best from game to game.

On a different matter: I haven't ploughed through the whole thread, but am I the only one who rather liked the fact that an opposition player wore a jersey with the name "Bong" prominently displayed on it?

Really? He showed a couple of times on the overlap that he's pacier than some seem to think, his crossing accuracy is much superior to Moreno's, and defensively he held his position better than Moreno did or does. And seeing as he came in with very little game time, he interacted with his teammates very well. Moreno damn well SHOULD be worried.

Firmino vs other no.9s (goals/assists all comps):

Kane - 16/3
Lukaku - 12/4
Firmino - 11/5
Aguero - 11/3
Morata - 10/4
Lacazette - 8/1
According to these stats the flabby melt isn't actually shite. Indeed, it might be said he's pretty good.

Yes but this is all comps, you’ve got to narrow it down to just the PL, then to a single game and then what he does in their 18 yard box in that game and then an exact 1 foot radius around their penalty spot.

Brighton had some chances and with half decent striker the game would have been closer. We gifted them some chances.

Ahh, well under those circumstances, and if you select the correct game and circumstance, he's obviously fucking hopeless isn't he? Flabbiest meltiest forward in the league.

TBF he was trying to hang back to give Lovren support whilst Can & Gini pushed up.

TAA was bombing forward (as he always does, not too much to argue about there), but Robertson was much more tentative as he (correctly imo) realised that if he also pushed up the field we would have Lovren left alone far too often at the back.

He still got up & supported (hence me having a meltdown watching Lovren alone with Mignolet threatening to try to run & pretend to be a sweeper keeper in our half of the pitch for minutes at a time in the first half) but not as much as TAA did.

Most teams concede at least a few chances in an away match. It's crazy to expect otherwise. The fact that they had their first corner in the second half shows just how little pressure they had in the game overall. We did really well.

I’ve always wondered, IF he EVER improves, he then has melted his flab so he becomes the Meltist of flabbiness.

If it was Defoe and not whelean, the score may have been 3-3. When we get tonked by a decent teams its because they take thier chances. See Seville , spurs, city.

Even against shite, we gift teams a load of chances.

You must suck the joy out of every room you walk into.

United 'gifted' Arsenal a host of chances last night. City 'gifted' Southampton a bunch of good chances the other night. Very few teams concede no chances. All teams need a bit of luck, and that their domination of the chances will result in a positive result.

Yeah, he's passionate and he just got fucked harder than that stupid Miss Universe bitch when she went up to Mike Tyson's room at 3 in the morning.

Is that observation based on yesterday's game? I don't remember a single meaningful cross or attacking moment. He was always available and worked hard but whenever he got the ball he seems unsure about what to do.

In the first 30 mins Hendo and Can were constantly gesturing and pointing wildly to somebody on the left. It was either him or Coutinho.

It was a great the attack could convert the chances.

That's what I saw, too.
