We should have go for Jamo if we wanted a home-grown backup keeper.

Not spending money on a no-hoper, sometimes the difference of 2 to 2.5M can be crucial, just like the daniel alves deal.

Is this guy definitely home grown? When did he move to Boro?
1999 Keni, he was part of their youth system.

He's had loan spells at Blackpool, Stockport, Sheff Wed and Shelbourne.

(Thanks Wiki!)

He wouldn't have come. He's gone to Bristol for family reasons.

We could have tried though, if he decided to go for bristol that's another matter.

2,5m for a 28 year old goalkeeper that has been on loan from fucking Boro!
It´s stupid!

Jones allowed to travel to Merseyside

Brad Jones has finally been given permission to travel to Anfield for talks with Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson.

Boro are understood to have settled on a £2.3m fee for the Australian international to move to Merseyside.

The 28-year-old arrived for training at Rockliffe Park today and was instructed he could now travel to Liverpool, where he is seen as a potential capable deputy for Spanish international Pepe Reina.

Ironically, a bad mistake by Reina cost Liverpool an opening day victory against Arsenal yesterday, when he spilled the ball into his own net in the final minute of a 1-1 draw.

However, Reina had earlier made a couple of crucial saves as the Reds defied the loss of new signing Joe Cole, who was sent-off on his debut.

We had better have a deal lined up for Cavalieri then... and we need to come out of it with money in our pockets as well.

Or What!!!

Signing Jones and selling Cavalieri also frees up one more slot for a foreign outfield player. Guess that makes it worth it tbh.

Cavalieri is probably on decent wages aswell.

He won't be playing much either.

Isnt Jones Australian?
Yes but he has been in the UK for 8/9 years, something like that.

Yea, I don't think anyone's arguing with the idea of having a homegrown keeper as back up and freeing up a foddinner spot for someone more important. The issue seems to be that people think he's shite.

It's no different to Cav, Itanje and all the others.

At least Jones will serve some purpose.

Yeah you're right. Still mental.

In his defence, I went to City v Boro last season and he was very good. It was Given's debut and City won 1-0, so he got all the plaudits, but Jones made some great saves on that day.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones.

As revealed by skysports.com Jones was at Anfield for a medical after Liverpool finally agreed a £2.3million fee with Boro for the Australian.

Jones has signed a three-year deal at Liverpool after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Liverpool have been chasing Jones for the last few weeks as Roy Hodgson looks to bring in cover and competition for No.1 Pepe Reina.

It is understood the deal has been held up by a difference of opinion over how the fee of £2.3million was to be paid.

Jones, who qualifies as a 'home-grown' player, is Liverpool's seventh signing of the summer.

Brad Jones is a good keeper to have at the club.

Although, I do think that Cavalieri is a decent back up himself - but surely something is going on, maybe he wants to leave and so we've gone after Jones to replace him?

If Cavalieri does want to stay, then I'm not so sure why we went ahead with going after Jones.

7th? Wilson, Shelvey, Jova, Cole, Poulsen, Jones. Who else?

Neil Jones again:

Cesena have made an approach to LFC for Diego Cavalieri. Loan deal looks likeliest (surprisingly), but fee of around £2m could be agreed.

Me this time:

Not impressed if true.

We better get a fee for Cavalieri.

He's worth £2M to someone. He seems solid enough

If we get a similar fee for Cavalieri to the one we have paid for Jones then its a decent enough deal. We will have essentially swapped one average keeper for another.

If we end up paying 2 million for the priviledge of doing so, while at the same time having no money to strengthen at left back and up front then its a bloody awful deal.
