with the exception of meireles, roy's signings have been a disaster.

No arguments there.

Whats the total, 4 is it?

Crapsen, Cole, KOnchesky, Jones.

Have I missed anyone?
last summer would argubly our worst summer ever except maybe the dreaded summer of 2002 where the terrible trio of cheyrou, diao and diouf were bought for a whopping 20m.

The club paid:

£2.3m for Brad Jones and he's now behind Peter Gulasci

£4.5m for Christian Poulsen. To think that Hodgson didn't really rate Aquilani.

£3.5m for Konshesky plus two of brightest talents. It took us about 2 games to notice that Insua was better.

Cole and Jova don't bother me cause they were free.

So that's a grand total of:

£10.3 Million

This was spent on players who aren't even in the team now. I wonder what that could have got us at the start of the season? A proper winger maybe?
Let's do some damage control. How much can we recoup out of that sum?
I'd say about £3 Million tops.

I'm not too sure about that.

As for the 2 free agents (Cole, Jova) - what we saved in fees, we'd make up for in wages and sign-on fees, unfortunately.

I think we'll do better better than just £3m though when we get rid of the whole lot. Managers/coaches see things differently as we do (that's why we're always fuming about or confused by their decisions aren't we?), so I won't be surprised if we got back between 1/3 to 1/2 of our outlay on each of Jones, Poulsen and Konchesky.

Say 700K on Jones, 2.2m for Poulsen and 1.2m for Konchesky, and then (guessing now) 3m each for Cole and Jovanovic (there were rumours of Wolfsburg offering 6m for him in the January transfer window?). So we could earn back a bit. Obviously, the 2 free agents chip in to move the numbers but they still cost us money to bring in (just not in terms of transfer fees) so they need to be factored in.

I like your optimism.

Loan move sealed and confirmed:

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones will be Derby County's number one for the final eight games of the season.

The 29-year-old Australian has signed on an emergency loan until the end of the 2010/11 campaign from the Premier League giants.

Manager Nigel Clough moved quickly to bring Jones to Pride Park after being hit with the news that Hull City wished to recall Matt Duke from his loan stint with the Rams.

Duke had been pencilled in to fill the gap vacated by Frank Fielding, who returned to Blackburn Rovers after the completion of his 93 days on loan following last Saturday's 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace.

The 33-year-old had sat on the bench for four games after signing at the start of March, but he has now returned to the KC Stadium.

Clough explained: "Matt was due to play for our reserves on Tuesday, but we got a late call from Hull to say they wished to recall him.

"They were perfectly entitled to do that as he is their player, so we had to use our contacts pretty quickly to get someone of sufficient quality in the building.

"Brad fits the bill perfectly; he has Premier League experience, Football League experience and - importantly - big game experience.

"We have some big games coming up between now and May, and he will be our number one in them.

"He hasn't had much first-team football this season, so I'm pretty sure he will be looking forward to the challenge.

"He also knows Daniel Ayala well
(also on loan from Liverpool) and he has also played with Shaun Barker in the past which will be good for him when working with the back four going into his first game at Cardiff.

"Liverpool have done us a big favour and I would like to thank Kenny Dalglish and the other officials at Anfield for agreeing to loan another of their players to Derby County."

The former Middlesbrough trainee had loan spells at Stockport County, Rotherham United, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday between 2002 and 2006 to gain first-team experience.

With that experience behind him, he established himself as back-up for fellow Australian Mark Schwarzer at the Riverside Stadium.

He played four times in Boro's incredible run to the UEFA Cup Final in 2006 under Steve McLaren, keeping three clean sheets in the process, and he made his international debut for Australia in 2007.

2008/09 and 2009/10 was Jones' chance to shine after Schwarzer joined Fulham, and Jones went on to make a combined total of 44 appearances for Middlesbrough in those two seasons before Liverpool came calling last summer and paid in excess of £2 Million for his services.

He has acted as understudy to Spanish international Pepe Reina for the majority of this season, and his two first-team appearances for the Reds have come in the Carling Cup and Europa League.

BRAD Jones is hoping to impress Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish – as well as Derby County fans – during his loan spell at Pride Park.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has joined the Rams from Liverpool for the remainder of the season after Matt Duke was recalled by his parent club, Hull City.

Jones moved to Anfield from Middlesbrough in a £2.3m deal last summer but has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds.

He has been restricted to two first-team appearances this term – in the Carling Cup and Europa League.

The Australian international was signed by Roy Hodgson, who has since left the club, with Anfield legend Dalglish currently in charge.

"Obviously, Roy Hodgson signed me and I haven't played yet under Kenny," said Jones.

"Whenever you go out on to the pitch, you want to show people what you can do.

"I've got eight games to do that here at Derby and I'm looking forward to getting some matches under my belt."

Jones has so far been used as back-up for Spanish number one Jose Reina, who is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in the world.

"It's been good to work with him," said Jones. "He's a great guy and we get on well.

"He has shown why he is regarded as one of the top keepers.

"For me, it's been a bit frustrating but I knew what I was getting into.

"Even so, when you've been playing and then all of a sudden you're not, you do get that bug that you want to be out there playing.

"So I'm really looking forward to being out on the pitch."

He added: "It's been a bit up-and-down for me this season – and the team as a whole.

"We had a rough start under Roy Hodgson and it was a difficult period for everyone.

"Things weren't quite going the way we wanted them to and Roy left.

"Since then, things have picked up slightly, although on a personal level, I haven't played that many games for the first-team, which I did kind of expect when I signed.

"But I've got that urge to get out and play. Thankfully, Liverpool have agreed to let me come out and Derby have come in and taken me."

Rams boss Nigel Clough is glad to have Jones on board after losing the services of Duke before he had played a first-team game.

"Matt was due to play for our reserves on Tuesday but we got a late call from Hull to say they wished to recall him," said Clough.

"They were perfectly entitled to do that as he is their player, so we had to use our contacts pretty quickly to get someone of sufficient quality in the building.

"Brad fits the bill perfectly. He has Premier League experience, Football League experience and, importantly, big game experience.

"We have some big games coming up between now and May and he will be our number one for those games.

"He hasn't had much first-team football this season, so I'm sure he will be looking forward to the challenge.

"Liverpool have done us a big favour and I would like to thank Kenny Dalglish and the other officials at Anfield for agreeing to loan another of their players to Derby."

Jones already knows Derby defender Daniel Ayala, who is also on loan from Liverpool, while he was briefly team-mates with Shaun Barker during a stint at Rotherham United in 2003.

The Rams have a blank weekend due to the international break, so Jones will have some time to get to know the rest of his new colleagues before making his debut at Cardiff City next Saturday.

Derby boss Nigel Clough was unhappy with his goalkeeper, while Bristol City Keith Millen hailed his custodian after the win at Pride Park.

Rams chief Clough was disappointed after loan signing Brad Jones' mistake set City on their way to a 2-0 win in Derby's final home game of the season.

Jones, who is on loan from Liverpool, somehow allowed a Jon Stead shot to squirm under his body before Cole Skuse's second-half strike secured a win for the Robins.

"We would have liked a performance more like those before Christmas or in the last few weeks but the goalkeeping error demoralised us to a certain degree," admitted Clough.

"Their goalkeeper has made two or three very good saves and ours has cost us the first goal which has happened in seven or eight of the home games this season. It's strange that the majority of errors in that position have been at home.

Gulacsi ftw.
Joke aside, feels frustrating that Hodgson wasted £2.3M on him now that Gulacsi is our backup.

Is his son suffering from leukemia?
Dated 13 Apr 2011:

LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Brad Jones has revealed his son Luca’s leukaemia has returned despite a stem-cell transplant performed on the five-year-old last September.

“The doctors always tell you there is a chance it will come back,†said Jones, currently on loan with Derby. “We hoped that it wouldn’t, but unfortunately it has. They say that some people have three transplants and survive, so it’s not the end of the world, but it is a big dent in his recovery.â€

Jones was forced to pull out of the World Cup last summer on the eve of Australia’s opening game against Germany upon learning of his diagnosis, and Liverpool have pledged to continue to help raise awareness of the need for blood and bone marrow donors.

Derby were aware of the situation when they signed him for the remainder of the season and have promised to grant him compassionate leave whenever he wishes it.

Another report on the same match as above (i.e. Derby's last home match vs Bristol City)

NIGEL Clough believes the signing of Frank Fielding for next season will reduce the number of goalkeeping errors which have cost Derby County this season.

Derby are set to land Fielding from Blackburn Rovers when the transfer window opens next week.

The England Under-21 international had two loan spells with the Rams this season and impressed. But Derby have had to use four different keepers during the campaign and mistakes by all of them have not helped.

"We are talking eight to 10 goalkeeping errors during the season, a huge amount. I don't know any other team who have had that many," said Clough, who could hand 21-year-old Ross Atkins his debut in the Rams' final Championship match at Reading today.

Atkins, if selected, would become the fifth keeper used by Derby this season.

Derby's current number one, Brad Jones, was at fault for the opening goal after only six minutes of Saturday's home defeat by Bristol City.

Jones, on loan from Liverpool, failed to collect a corner in the 2-2 draw with Coventry City last month and Aron Gunnarsson found the net with a neat overhead kick.

Jones could also have done better on the Sky Blues' second goal.

And that proved to be his last game for them...

The Rams showed four changes for their final match of the season.

Goalkeeper Brad Jones, who failed to convince in a loan spell from Liverpool, was dropped in favour of youngster Ross Atkins.

LIVERPOOL’S football superstars and celebs will be out in glamorous force this weekend to throw their weight behind a very worthy cause.

The Light for Luca Black Tie Dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool One on Sunday promises to be one of the biggest events in the city’s social calendar – and certainly one for A-list spotters.

Our source says: “The dinner is raising money for the Anthony Nolan Appeal and has been organised by Liverpool goalie Brad Jones and his partner Dani. Brad’s son Luca was diagnosed with leukaemia last year.â€

To be honest, it's a bit hard to say if he's any good considering this has been such a terrible year for him.

I hope his son recovers.

I can't imagine why HOdgson thought it would be a good idea topay 2.3 million on a backup goalkeeper goingg through such a torrid time. Then again, considering he bought Crapsen, Cole and Konchesky, maybe I can imagine.

Ming is his only real success.
