Bitters Or Scum Light?

Martinez needs a win in his next game or the Bitters will boil over and start the booing. He's already on thin ice, as they think - not unreasonably - that with the players they have, they should be doing better. They've only won 6 Premiership games all season.

But why are they surprised? His total lack of clue regarding defending and game management is shite and always has been. Remember when he was linked with us and anyone with any clue reacted with horror, due to that Wigan side getting bumfucked 8-0, 7-0 and whatever in the season they got relegated? He's a bigger fraud than Rodgers

They're already booing at times.

He's very similar to Rodgers in many ways, as I discussed with a few blues a couple of years back. Most of them have enjoyed his style of play but have been less than convinced by his ability to make them a good defensive unit.

They play much more attractive football than under Moyes, but long term it's proving to be much less effective.

Some Twatter posted a stat: Everton have conceded 110 goals since the start of last season. That's....astonishing

The Everton job is just waiting for Pulis isn't it. And results wise I think he'd do better than Martinez. Would be interested to see what Pulis could do with a better set of players.

I can understand the dislike of Pulis and his style. But the reason he plays that way is because it works - for his teams. Opposition don't like it because it disrupts their own game.

As I always say, opposition teams have a right to play any way they want. It's up to you to beat them.

That said, I don't think Pulis will ever be more than a mid table manager.

Tony Pulis hasn't worked with a better set of players because he doesn't buy those types of players. I'd love for you to be right and for Everton to land Pulis after sacking Martinez, because they'll be in for some chillingly mind-numbing football with mediocre results after spending a decent sum of money.

Just compare how West Brom (ironically, his current club) and his old club Stoke did after being promoted together:

08/09 -- Stoke 45 points (spent: 23m / nett 23m); West Brom relegated (14m / 7m)
09/10 -- Stoke 47 (18m / 14m); West Brom champions in Championship; promoted (4m / 1m)
10/11 -- Stoke 46 (14m / 10m); West Brom 47 (9m / 8m)
11/12 -- Stoke 45 (17m / 16m); West Brom 47 (6m / +1m profit)
12/13 -- Stoke 42 (16m / 16m); West Brom 49 (3m / 2m)

13/14 -- Stoke 50 (5m / 5m); West Brom 36 (11m / 2m) << Mark Hughes takes over Stoke City
14/15 -- Stoke 54 (1m / +1m profit); West Brom 44 (17m / 16m) << Pulis takes over West Brom in Jan 2015
15/16 -- Stoke on track for 56?? (20m / 3m); West Brom on track for 46?? (30m / 20m)

In 5 seasons with Stoke, Pulis spent 88m (79m nett) and had 1 better season than West Brom (we can't count 09/10 since those are different competitions). When West Brom came up again, they spent 18m (9m nett) over the next 3 seasons and managed to do a tiny bit to marginally better. Stoke spent 2.5x that amount (4x nett) in those 3 seasons to be a bit worse, and that's with 1 more season's earnings in the Premier League.

So now Pulis is in charge of West Brom, and in his first full season, of course, he goes to spend 30m (20m nett) and surprise, surprise, the football style doesn't look any different.

Of course, he's free to adopt the style that he likes or thinks works best. But nah, the "he'll do better with better players" argument doesn't fly with him - he has had enough money to buy players for a different style but he just chooses a shit haircut and buys a shit cap to put on it.

.

Well, no, it's not as simple as that. Even his own supporters don't like it. Sure, they put up with it happily at the start because, as you suggest, it gets results, but eventually even they can't stand it any more, as happened at Stoke and as is already starting to happen at West Brom. The main reason other supporters don't like it is that it's one dimensional, boring and destructive. And Pulis is disliked personally because he's a chippy, devious, cynical tit.

His Palace side were a bit different I thought. He had them playing some nice counter-attacking stuff, but yeah Stoke were horrible and now so are West Brom.

I didn't mind him at the very start because, as you say, there's more than one way to play and I quite liked the logic of what he was doing, but the man is almost ineffably irritating. He's a pile of silly self-conscious gimmicks under a smelly cap. Take that insistence on always standing up to do press conferences. 'Man boycotts chairs'. If he worked in an office he'd be the one with odd-coloured socks, a bow-tie and a usb-powered tea urn on his desk.

Somebody (can't remember who) was saying on the radio the other day that they interviewed Martinez recently and put to him a question about the number of goals the blueslime are conceding. Martinez' response was that he didn't care about that, but only about what they did going forward.

I wonder how long it'll be before some of the players also start getting cheesed off and looking for moves.

Stones and Lukaku will probably be looking to move in the summer. Barkely is another that could possibly move on aswell.
They'll get a decent amount cash if they lose those players mind.
