Gonna be a tough one.

Will Torres start? Maybe the minutes he played with Spain will have done him good.

I'd go with :

-----------------Reina-----------------
--Johnson---Carra----Agger--Konchesky
----------------Poulsen-----------------
--Maxi-----Gerrard-Meireles-------Babel
-----------------Torres------------------

Re: Birmingham Away

I like it. I think Merciless and Babel time will have stormers.

:thumbs up:

Re: Birmingham Away

It'll be interesting to see whether Skrtel keeps his place. His form has been good enough to warrant it.

Re: Birmingham Away

I'd go with that line-up too.

I also think Konchesky will start as he means to go - offering us solidity and some unexpected width on the overlap.

I really hope we win this one.

Yeah true, did he play two 90 minute games though?

Re: Birmingham Away

Anybody be tempted to have Kelly behind Johnson on the right?

I'd go with that team, although I have a feeling Jovanovic will start.

This.

I'd really love to see whether Babel could actually make something of a new start under a new manager.

Poulsen and Meireles should be more than adequate cover for Gerrard with especially the latter bombing forward as well.

Agger played a full 90 minutes against Iceland without really impressing and Skrtel was MOTM against Russia according to reports. Don't know whether he also played Friday?

Anyways it'll be interesting to see who gets the nod of the two.

Re: Birmingham Away

Paddy's line-up looks good to me, although Maxi has still done nothing to convince me yet. Maybe stick Jova in for him.

Other than that, yes please

I can see where you are coming but not really, at least not for the time beeing.

I don't mind one of our fullbacks to be very attacking minded at all. In our two centerbacks and e.g. Poulsen there's adequate cover in the back whenever we're on the attack on the right with Johnson adding up the numbers.

With Maxi moving in central from the RW position he'd make space for Magic to bomb up and down their flank space that'll be more difficult to come across if he was actually moved further upfield.

Konchesky will probably be told to stay futher back and let Agger instead make the forward runs on the left when there's space I reckon.

Skrtel hasn't deserved to be dropped but it'll be interesting to see whether Agger would accept to be benched for a prolonged number of matches should this indeed be the case. I really doubt that myself as he's now of an age where he'd expect to start week in week out.

Roy is certainly facing a positive challenge here and my bet is that he'll probably go with Agger but should he then somehow fail to deliver the way to the bench is certainly shorter than for quite some time with regards to Skrtels good form.

Hold on KHL are you saying that our CB should run the left wing?

Re: Birmingham Away

Skrtel's done well, but it's harsh on Agger who was only played LB because he has a left foot.

You can see why players dislike a 'versatility' tag attached to them,

Re: Birmingham Away

My guess at what Roy will pick;

Reina

Johnson
Carra
Skrtel
Konchesky

Poulsen
Meireles

Jovanovic
Gerrard
Babel

Torres

They'll get games together this Season I'm sure but I wouldn't drop Carra at this stage. It's still Carra + one for me.

Actually it's Carra + Agger for me but as we all know that I'll keep that bit to meself.

Ehm...

*I'll get me coat

Re: Birmingham Away

Thank god all that international shit is over and we can get back to talking about the good stuff.
I think Paddy's team is what we will see, maybe Skrtel for Agger but that'll be about it.
It's going to be a tough game but we'll win.

Not at all.

I'm saying that Agger should be given permission to bomb forward from a central position and Johnson on the right. Asymmetric I know but as they are our two most astute attacking-minded players from the back that would make sense.

Re: Birmingham Away

You want our defenders to 'bomb forward' at a stadium where the home team have an excellent record and rarely lose?

I want two out of four defenders to be ALLOWED to go forward. Johnson and Agger.

What do you want? A bus in front of our goal?

So it has to be one or the other does it?

Re: Birmingham Away

It's a tough away game whatever way you look at it and selecting defenders because of their attacking attributes is a bit silly in my view. In fact it's not even a bit silly, its just wrong.

Re: Birmingham Away

It seems Roy has already decided to off-load Babel so although he may see more games than he did under Rafa I still don't seem him anywhere near the first team when all are fit and present. Jova keeps possession better too.

Skrtel has played very very well so far and although if we were at home I'd go with Agger, I don't see him dislodging Skrtel for this one.

-------------------Reina-----------------

--Johnson---Carra----Skrtel--Konchesky

------------------Poulsen-----------------

--Maxi------Gerrard-Meireles-------Jovanovic

-------------------Torres------------------

Jones, Agger, Kelly, Lucas, Babel, Pacheco, N'Gog

You already have two ... Johnson & Konchesky ( I hope he starts well or else his name is ready made for Brendan to give him an 'alternative' moniker).

I'd go for Carra and Agger myself. I like Skrtel and he's in great form but I think Agger is a more reliable defender as Skrtel can be prone to errors at time.

Re: Birmingham Away

Not sure either Skittles or Agger are that dependable, but at this moment, skittles is playing well, but I do like agger, and I think he is a better player

Re: Birmingham Away

Does everyone hate Jova already? God Almighty, he's played what? Three games? He deserves his chance

I think we should give him at least a few more games until we start dropping him.

Still, as long as The Cunt is on the bench, I'm happy!
